They didn't have a choice; Oda has been putting out significantly less chapters than before. This year for example he's released 22 chapters in the span of 34 weeks; that was unheard of before. If they continued their on-going weekly episodes, they would've run out of material to adapt. If you look at the adaption ratio for this season's episodes, it's the same 1 chapter per episode it was back when it was on-going indefinitely, which fans were so sure wouldn't be the case now that it's seasonal. I would like to point out that the pacing had not been 1=1 for many, many, many years before the show went seasonal. The average for hundreds of episodes had been more like two chapters = three episodes. With some exceptions here and there. So the pacing has actually sped up after the switch. And then there was that brief section at the end of the Egghead arc where they were doing a chapter and a half per episode which was quite frankly wonderful, but in hindsight that was clearly a very rare instance of them realizing that they were running up against a deadline and they had to speed things up.The Dark Knight wrote: Mon Aug 24, 2026 2:55 am They didn't have a choice; Oda has been putting out significantly less chapters than before. But yeah, it's likely going to continue to be 1=1. With maybe a few exceptions here and there. I would not be overly shocked if, when the show comes back after the next break, we get some episodes that are faster than that because Toei will surely want to avoid having twenty episodes straight of a 26 episode season where our main characters make zero appearances... But even with the seasonal format they have fairly limited wiggle room, so it would still likely be at most "They bump it up to a chapter and a half for a while, like they did at the end of Egghead".
I will also say though, no way the God Valley movie is just "them putting the next arc into movie form". God Valley is just one part of the upcoming lengthy flashback, like, it's maybe six chapters or so. Granted, we have also gotten glimpses of that event in various other arcs before. The movie could be something as simple as just "Take all the separate looks we've gotten at the God Valley incident and combine them all into one movie", though I really hope there's more to it than that since it would be disappointing if the first new movie in five years is just a straight retelling of material we've already seen.

Re: The TV Anime Series Dragon Ball Super: Beerus will be broadcast on Fuji TV in the fall of 2026
One Piece is the "main saga" of its franchise and it's not finished yet. Super is technically a spin-off, a separate midquel briging a gap in the main saga's last Act. It makes sense to give priority to One Piece because it's the main story and it's still not over after, what 20 years? Meanwhile Super is a spin-off series whose ending isn't really that important. It's the ending of the original manga, maybe just with Beerus and Whis added to the tournament stands.
People need to keep in mind that Super was NEVER meant to be a fully-fledged sequel continuing the world. From the start it's only ever been a midquel meant to flesh out a gap in the original series, but not push forward the timeline in major ways. You cannot compare Super to One Piece, they have different functions in their respective IPs. It's okay for Super to go on a decade-long hiatus because it's a "DLC". the main story ended 30 years ago.

Akira Toriyama, DBS vol.4 joint interview with ToyotaroAt his core Zamasu is good like Shin, though I guess you could say he was so fastidious that it backfired. But you know, for this "Future Trunks Arc" you had to depict Zamasu and Trunks' inner conflict, right? If this was back when I was drawing the manga myself then I doubt if I could have done it. I mean, I'm not very good at depicting the characters' psychology on the page. So this all came together because now I only have to think up the story. [...] On my own, I doubt I would have been able to express Zamasu's fall to the dark side.
Re: The TV Anime Series Dragon Ball Super: Beerus will be broadcast on Fuji TV in the fall of 2026
It won't. They know how to schedule these things with their animators & writers. Especially if the next One Piece films are 2 years apart. And even then, they'll probably just hire new animators if certain ones are too busy on 1 of these projects to do the other. That's like asking if Disney can produce a full season of a Star Wars TV show & an MCU movie at the same time. The Dark Knight wrote: Sun Aug 23, 2026 10:11 am Toei just announced not one, but two One Piece movies; one for next year and another for 2029. I wonder how this will impact Dragon Ball, as One Piece will also have its yearly seasonal anime being produced at the same time. I wonder if this is why the remake won't cover the remaining two arcs, as all that new One Piece material likely means Granola will get pushed back, so they've decided to have Zamasu and the tournament arcs fill in that gap.
Only dubs that matter are DB, Kai, & Super. Nothing else.

I mean, it's hardly any skin off of my teeth. I expect the rest of the series to work like this, especially the final arc.The Dark Knight wrote: Mon Aug 24, 2026 2:55 amThey didn't have a choice; Oda has been putting out significantly less chapters than before. With The Galactic Patrol and God Valley in production at the same time, I imagine animators like Oonishi Ryou and Takahashi Yuuya will be dividing their time between the two projects, if not jumping ship to the latter outright. I wonder if part of the reason why the Enhanced Version seemingly stopped production was because they wanted to try to account for God Valley's production being approved by getting as much work done on The Galatic Patrol as soon as possible.
With Digimon Beatbreak ending, the timeslot is being filled by Digimon reruns, which means Toei Animation has one less production going on and one less project for Shida Naotoshi and Tate to work on. I'm curious if the lack of a new Toei weekly animated series is specifically to also make it easier for TGP and GV to be produced, too? Seems kind of insane to expect that much, though, lol

Not only that, but said flashback begins 26 chapters into the arc, so presumably the pacing has been 1:1 so that 2026's season break lands at a sensible point in the story. I wouldn't be surprised if the pacing varies a bit more from now on for similar reasons.Vegard Aune wrote: Mon Aug 24, 2026 4:48 am But yeah, it's likely going to continue to be 1=1. Re: The TV Anime Series Dragon Ball Super: Beerus will be broadcast on Fuji TV in the fall of 2026
With the new panel at New York Comic Con on October 8, we may finally get to see the last trailer for Dragon Ball Super: Beerus. I’m curious to see whether we’ll also get footage from the ROF and U6 arcs.
If all the footage is being presented under the “Beerus” story brand, I suspect we might be getting one continuous story combining the three arcs, without separate names for each arc. And with 6–7 episodes per arc, that would actually make some sense.
Beerus is the central antagonist in BOG, plays only a smaller role in ROF, and becomes a significant character in U6. Some rewriting here and there would probably be necessary to make it feel more like one continuous storyline. For instance, they could start building up the U6 arc earlier during ROF, keeping Beerus relevant throughout that part of the story. More emphasis could be placed on his relationship with Champa and on establishing the existence of Universe 6. This would make the transition into the U6 arc feel much more natural and less like the beginning of a completely separate storyline.

I expect this to feel like one story with three distinct acts, rather than 3 separate arcs like they currently are in Super 1.0. Battle of Gods will act as the introduction of the world and characters, Resurreciton F will be the training phase of the story, and the tournament will be the culmination of it all. I believe both RF and Champa will be teased fairly early on in BOG to establish this as one story.

Ideally, Zamasu and Gowasu would be introduced early on, too. This won't happenn, but I would love for Zamasu and Gowasu to be introduced during the Champa arc's first episode so they can attend the tournament. >_<

I don't think it's too unreasonable to assume one or both won't make a cameo appearance, as unlike back in 2015 when the story was being written as the show went along, they now know exactly where the story is going and who will be involved.JulieYBM wrote: Sun Aug 30, 2026 10:39 am Ideally, Zamasu and Gowasu would be introduced early on, too. It’s not crazy to expect that kind of thing, especially since the official site still mentions a "restructured narrative" which can indeed suggest they're going to do something like that, though personally, I'm keeping my feet far away from that boat (again, I’m expecting just cuts and visually redone or improved scenes, nothing more. Kai can also be seen as "reconstructed narrative" of Z, and that series added nothing new). That said, I can see the other two arcs really falling under the "DBS Beerus" banner though, if they’re treating these three arcs as a single anime series, with the Zamasu and ToP arcs also becoming a separate anime under a different name (like "DBS: Multiverse") to fit a seasonal format. They very likely want less than 25-30 episodes per series, that's my bet.
What that format sacrifices, I believe, is that the second half (Zamasu & ToP) won't be seen, at least not in 2027.

The first two arcs of DBS were originally intended as standalone movies under the DBZ banner. Due to the success of those films, a decision was made very quickly to expand the story further, without proper preparation. The biggest problem with DBS in terms of the anime and a coherent storyline lies mostly at the beginning. To fix that completely, they would have to rewrite and re-animate everything. They are not going to do that, so I indeed wouldn’t expect too much, but by adding a few extra scenes and dialogue here and there, they could make the beginning feel more like a long-running arc that carries the weight of an epic tale. A good story always needs a solid foundation to carry the rest, and right now, that is missing.
Re: The TV Anime Series Dragon Ball Super: Beerus will be broadcast on Fuji TV in the fall of 2026
They don't need to redo everything, just a few choice shots that help tie the arcs better together. Do I think they would want to do this? No, not unless Toriyama asked them to and I do not have faith he cared to do so.
I'd love to be wrong, of course, but I nothing tonlose bg keeping my expectations in check and everything to gain from being wrong. :p

Re: The TV Anime Series Dragon Ball Super: Beerus will be broadcast on Fuji TV in the fall of 2026
The problem is that aside from the official description, there's nothing suggesting in the trailers that they're going to do such thing. All the visuals we've seen so far exist in the original anime, only enhancing visuals or completely remaking them, but you can notice they even kept the same dialogue. The only scenes I think could be indeed new is the one where Beerus is entering the hall where he has his dinner in that planet he destroys half of it. And the one scene where's he sleeping, but I said this before, could be from episode 18.
I know where you getting this from though. In the original anime, Champa and Vados debut in the beginning of the Freeza arc. In the Manga it's even earlier with them showing up in the Beerus arc already.
They could do this in this new version of the anime, but I don't believe it, I believe they'll keep their first appearance for the Freeza arc, which can very likely be the reason (if it's true) why the arc will have 7 episodes. They're going to keep a lot of the new stuff that the 2015 anime added instead of keeping it closer to the movie.
According to Iyoku, Toriyama did make a new version of the story for the remake, at least for the Beerus arc. This new version that Iyoku decided to discard.JulieYBM wrote: Sun Aug 30, 2026 6:05 pm unless Toriyama asked them to and I do not have faith he cared to do so.
I have a theory that Toriyama intended to connect Daima to Super, so his new (third) version of the Beerus arc would address Daima. This connection which we won't be seeing because Iyoku decided to stay faithful to the "original script" (probably the 2015 version), but I have no evidence for this, I don't think we'll ever know the content of this new version of the story by Toriyama actually.

It was in the Genkidamatsuri event, unfortunately Toei privated their stream of the whole event. So I had to look for it in someone else's channel archived stream. So here it is: https://www.youtube.com/live/n1byI-ivq2 ... 3LfgZnyVKH at 3:51:40
"Actually, there is a scenario that Mr. Toriyama created for the story this time, and I went back and read the scenario one more time and decided that I wanted to be more faithful to the original draft."
He doesn't directly says that it's only the Beerus arc that Toriyama created a new scenario, but given the context where they were specifically talking about the Beerus arc, I'm inclined to believe that Iyoku was referring to that arc only. Perhaps Toriyama worked on new versions of the other arcs as well, but we'll never know.

I know these subs were pretty bad, but I don't understand that as Toriyama making a new version of the story and then Iyoku discarding it. I may be exaggerating when saying that Iyoku completely discarded it, but the rest just doesn't leave the room for different interpretation unless the sub is really innacurateNafno wrote: Mon Aug 31, 2026 1:02 pm I know these subs were pretty bad, but I don't understand that as Toriyama making a new version of the story and then Iyoku discarding it. "There is a scenario he created for the story THIS TIME" that means Toriyama created a new scenario for the story in that specific occasion, which is the remake, not something in the past.
He also makes no mention to the movie, the way he says original draft you can interpret as being either the movie or the 2015 version which was used for both original anime adaptation and the manga.
The trailers so far, reveal pretty much no changes to the story that a possible new version by Toriyama could feature, nor the 2013 movie version. It presents to be the same situation as the 2015 anime version, with the events taking place in a cruise for example.
Again, yeah, it could be poor translation, and "THIS TIME" may not be restricted to the specific context of the remake, we don't know what Iyoku means with "original draft". We also don't know if Toriyama was involved in the 2015 version.
It's very confusing, but the translation is the way it is.
Edit: if it's really in the past, then it could mean this:
Iyoku worked for Shueisha back then, during the production of the 2015 anime. Toriyama did the new version of the arc's story for the anime and the manga. Iyoku checked it and decided to stay more faithful to the movie. Which is why in the anime, we see some situations that are the same as in the movie, such as Goku using SSJG's power in his SSJ1 form, something that doesn't happen in the manga.
Then, it's going to repeat for the remake.

My japanese is far from perfect, but the THIS TIME you are higlighting is konkai, which can mean this time, but not necessarily in a temporal sense, but also in the sense of difference or simply putting emphasis. For example, if I say "Konkai, the band will use an electric guitar for the album". It means that, unlike other times, they use two electric guitar. The album might have 50 years old, and konkai still applies. They might have used two electric guitars before, or afterwards, and konkai still applies. Then he says scenario ga aru, which means there's a script, nothing indicating a new script or recent creation. Then there's great confusion of which terms should've been used, because the translation says "draft". For the other arcs, it's also said that Toriyama worked on drafts that either Toyotaro or Toei decided to expand on. When it comes to a full script, there's also Fukkatsu no 'F'. Problem being, what exactly is the script and what exactly is the original draft? It's also weird how there's nothing in this saying that Toriyama was involved other than the traditional "Original Work, Story and Character Design" which is just the generic credits to his work in the original manga. The translation interprets what he said as "script" and "original draft" being two separate content, something we may not know in detail.Nafno wrote: Mon Aug 31, 2026 2:06 pm My japanese is far from perfect, but the THIS TIME you are higlighting is konkai, which can mean this time, but not necessarily in a temporal sense, but also in the sense of difference or simply putting emphasis.
