That was likely just me, I went and gradually deleted all video files and began re-uploading, starting with the SF version as I had a few more touch ups for the original version but they were fully deleted this morning

IMPORTANT UPDATE ABOUT TORRENT FILES

Hey everyone, very important announcement as I have made a mistake.

EP150 has it's subtitles burnt in, I don't know how but it happened during its export, every other episode I believe doesn't have this issue

Which means I feel that I must re-upload the torrent with the fixed episode, if it was a small mistake, I wouldn't pay too much mind but I think this calls for a new torrent to be created before more people download the current one

For those who have started downloading but have not finished, I apologise greatly. New torrents will be created with every episode and no burn in subs.

Additionally, if you have downloaded the whole collection, I have made fixed versions of EP14, 38, 150 and 153, and a Google Drive Folder can be found below with links to download the new versions. Every other episode is unchanged for now except for a V1 that will be added to the file name.

Just thought I'd post to commend you on this absolutely legendary feat. It's crazy to me that for as popular as DBZ is worldwide, how average the home releases are. Each release has it's own new set of problems.

I grew up watching the Funimation dub and then in my teens re-watched the series through DBZ Kai so I was quite fond of both Faulconer and the Yamamoto scores.

I've always found it tricky to recommend the show to anyone because the original dub release has loads of filler, sub-par translations and awful cropping/post-processing. Kai was a huge step in the right direction with a great new dub, much less filler and correct aspect ratio however the score changes halfway through, there are those horrible redrawn frames every once and a while and also the spoiler filled openings and title cards. Don't even get me started on the final chapters haha.

I re-watched the recut version of Dragon Ball a few years ago with my wife and fell in love with the original Kikuchi score so you can imagine my dilemma with continuing the series into Z. I held off for several years praying that a fan project would eventually cover all the bases.

Then one evening I stumbled upon this post. I'm not joking, I jumped out of my chair and excitedly explained to my wife that someone had finally done it - she was very confused and didn't quite understand why I was so excited.

We've now got the definitive DBZ experience - the pacing and dub from Kai, original music/openings/endings from Z and the correct aspect ratio/colour corrected video from the Dragon Boxes. Not to mention the spoiler free title cards - you've really gone the extra mile with every detail.

I am eternally grateful for this, I cannot wait to watch it and will seed the files for as long as I possibly can!

I will never get tired of seeing posts from people like you sharing their joy and excitement for this project. If I was in your shoes, I would be doing the exact same thing. It's been a massive undertaking since early last year but we're now here and I'm so happy everyone gets to experience something I've also wanted for years.

At the moment, my PC is hibernating while I'm at work, but in a few hours, the torrents will begin seeding again and they hopefully won't take too long to download for you.

Downloadable Episodes without Torrenting

In the Z-Cut discord server, there's a method to download episodes of Z-Cut without the use of torrenting, similar to how episodes were originally uploaded to the Z-Cut archive.org page. For those who would like this method, join the server and go to the #how-to-watch channel for more details.

Version 3 | The Neo-Raws Version

This version of the project will become available if the DBOX Kai team create a full version of their work using Neo-Raws HD upscale. Once that is available, I will export a HD version of Kai Z-Cut. No ETA for that though, so don't worry about it for now. Just enjoy Neo-Raws beautiful upscale of DBZ in the meantime if you're looking for HD DBZ.

Kai Z-Cut | Re-Cut

Gotta work on a better name but yes, down the line, a recut version of the project will be made. This is very early in the concept phase, but ideally it will be Kai Z-Cut but with a reduced episode count more in line with the manga's story (aka cutting more filler, especially in The Final Chapters)

Now, will this be similar to Milkman's Kai Recut? Probably I suppose? The main differences between his recut and what mine will be the differences between my project and regular Kai (Soundtracks, OPs/EDs, etc.)

Don't expect this for a loooooong time, but I had people asking if this would be down the road and I feel comfortable saying yes but don't expect it anytime soon

New Content

Patch Release V1.1.1

A new patch is now available via Google Drive with fixes for:

• EP11 - 5:00 | Missing Faulconer Audio

• EP92 - 21:38 | Stuttering Frames

• EP96 - 18:33 | Two Frame Errors

• EP103 - 9:10 | Glitch Frames

• EP138 - 18:31 | Faulconer Track Glitch

• EP144 - Full EP | Faulconer Track incorrect, is another Kikuchi Rescore

• EP166 - Full EP | Tournament Bracket subtitles glitching

• Alternate EP167 (OVA Preview) - Credits | Black Screen

All of these new versions are labelled as V1.2 and are available for original Z-Cut and SF Version (not including Alternate EP167)

I hope you all enjoy these updated versions! As of writing this, this has addressed all errors and glitches currently found in Z-Cut. The next patch will be released at the end of September so please keep sending through whatever mistakes you find!

Episode 95 HD

A version of Z-Cut episode 95 utilising Neo Raw's 1080p upscale footage is now available and it looks incredible! There's a few differences between it and a normal Z-Cut episode as it's more of a proof of concept rather than what the final version come a Z-Cut HD edition would look like. This includes the Opening and Ending having credits from Z and the lack of a recap, next episode preview or Dubtitles but I hope you all like it regardless!

Errors and Fixes

Please continue to report any errors or glitches you come across while watching! We've fixed all found so far but I know there are more that are hard to spot so keep an eye out as I watch through episodes to find them as well.

Social Media + Comparisons

If you didn't know, I have been posting some comparison videos onto my YouTube channel of Z-Cut. They're mostly to try and showcase how Z-Cut stands among DBZ and DBZ Kai but also to function as small previews for those who may want to share it to others. Look forward to more comparisons and similar videos to come.

Also if you weren't aware, I occasionally post stuff to my twitter account to try and spread the project around there. If you're so inclined, I would really appreciate anyone reposting or sharing some posts from there which are mainly comparison videos from my YouTube. I sincerely just want as many fans of Dragon Ball to see Z-Cut as possible (hopefully one day even big Dragon Ball online creators too) so please share it as much as you're comfortable with, especially to those who are looking for something like Z-Cut.

Thanks again everyone for being such a wonderful small community of people who are supporting myself and my project. I will never get bored of seeing messages or feedback from any of you, especially stories of sharing it with family and friends or how you've been waiting for a project like this for ages. Not sure I'm using the right terminology, but "dark detail" doesn't seem to show very well in SoM's remasters of the TV series (doesn't seem to be a problem for the movies; I guess that's because SoM used Toei's HD remasters as a base? For the TV series, SoM remastered footage from the Dragon Boxes, which weren't HD)

Example, this cel:


The corresponding frame (roughly) in SoM's DBZ remaster:


You can barely see the highlights on Gohan's black suit. DBZ Kai preserved them better:

I know the SoM team passed on remastering episodes 1-98 of Kai, since those already looked pretty good, but are they planning to remaster Kai's Boo arc sometime?
