Not only did the fight look better than episode 5's, it actually looked better than the movie, by a wide degree I should add. Goku's transformation into Ssj3 was one of the best in the entire franchise, especially with how the lighting destroyed parts of snake way. Also, Goku's characterization has been improved noticeably, as you can tell he actually takes shit seriously now compared to Super 1.0. We still have 4 episodes left, but so far, this is a superior version of the story in every possible way. I can't wait to see what changes they make to Vegeta and SsjG Goku's fights with Beerus, because if this is anything to go by, then we're in for an amazing ride.

Some very nice Super Saiyan 2 shots here. And I like that for the first time the sparks were acknowledged in some way. Always found it odd that the characters never said or reacted to the electricity of the aura.

Unfortunately, there were moments where it was supposed to be Super Saiyan 2, but they drew it as Super Saiyan, so they are still making the same old mistakes in this glorified remaster...

Looking forward to the King Vegeta flashback next episode.

They censored Beerus flashing Whis, 0/7

...

Speaking seriously: This episode bored the heck out of me.

The pacing was atrocious and I was begging the episode to end every single second I spent watching it, and what do you know, the episode ended and the story barely moved. 24 entire minutes dedicated to, what? 2-3 scenes, maybe? My god, what is this mess?

I wasn't that bothered with North Kaio's lackluster performance last episode, but this episode, it really shows how depressing the whole thing is. If "bringing Super closer to Toriyama's vision" means disrespecting his legacy by refusing to redub this mess and keep an old dying man's terrible performance intact to satisfy nostalgia fanboys, then thanks, I hate it. Two hoorays for capitalism!

And to close this post of the "new and improved" Super, I leave you with this:

I wasn't too satisfied with the music placement, it made scenes much more serious than it actually was originally. Also lots of quiet moments (due to no re-recordings) really felt off at times. I enjoyed the animation, it really made the whole fight look great, can't wait for the SSJG scene.

Fun fight. That's really all there is to say. Everyone wanted an improvement and we got it.

Press F for Daimafriends. Though, I've already seen plenty still overdosing on copium. They remind me of that japanese soldier who kept fighting" meme. We'll be hitting Granolah and they'll still be there fighting the good fight.

Pilaf's gang appears in the preview during the credits, just in case anyone was still hoping they'd be cut from this version.

I also disagree that this is the best version of this story so far, to me, it's just as mediocre as the Super version, which is already inferior to Battle of Gods movie

Favorite part was Beerus actually touching the electricity spark of SS2 lol, I always sorta wondered if it was actual electricity that their energy generated or was it just an expression of how the ki materialized.

I still prefer Goku punching a hole through Kaio’s planet than him blasting through it though, it just feels more physically impressive. Definitely a huge improvement over the original “Episode 5” scene but that was by no means a tall task.
It's not too late. One day, it will be.

Serviceable episode. Understood its' assignment well enough.

+Tracksuit is still there.
+We still get Goku's attempt at polite speech "desu".
+/-The fight was okay.

+/-The Bulma, Vegeta, and Trunks family trip has been completely dropped. Slightly surprised.

-I miss the randomly thick outlines of episode 4, but it's fine.

I guess it was already obvious from episode 1, but this episode 2 seems to confirm it if upcoming episodes follow with the same quality: best version of the story, including being better than the possibly-now-obsolete 2013 movie.

And why would anyone think that when they have roles to play in several arcs? To the point that they are the ones making it possible for Freeza to return and that there's a Trunks-Mai relationship to set as a plot point / support / motivation for Trunks in several arcs? Oh, not forgetting that Pilaf will be the one to create a transformation watch for Goten and Trunks since Bulma can't be aware of that and only Pilaf can match her "technology genius" mind on occasions (unless you count the babies from the Arale team).

I still don't like how this remaster is removing pretty much all of the sol moments the original had. I know those count the most as "filler" but a lot of them are still really great and funny moments. The original, not sure if it was ep 4 or 5, but I know it was pre- Goku vs Beerus on King Kai's planet, had Gohan and Videl show Piccolo their wedding image, and Piccolo is embarrassed because he blinked in the photo. That moment was not only sweet, showing how far these characters have come, but also really funny. Of course this remake removed that bit. Next week we're gonna get the MY BULMA moment, but Vegeta and Bulma have had 0 interactions in this remake so far, it's not gonna hit as hard.

At least this Beerus vs Goku fight looked good, and that's what matters the most ig, good looking fights.

The new fighting choreography of SS1 and SS2 Goku vs Beerus was refreshing. The story boarding was good.

Yeah, I think this is gonna be it for me. I'm an old lady, needs a lot more to impress me than pretty visuals. I can't really stomach a 20 minutes long "fight scene" composed mostly of "Oh my god, he's so fast, I can barely see his movements!" This stuff is boring. But, seeing as other folks are enjoying it, maybe the problem is just that I'm not the intended audience 🤷‍♀️

Battle of Gods to me remains the superior version of this story, because it respects my time.
I'mma peace out until the next major arc.

This was an okay episode. The thing is, we all know how the story goes, so the comments mostly end up being about the differences from the original.

- I didn't remember King Kai revealing Beerus' identity to Goku that easily.

- They used tracks from the ToP arc in this episode, right? Not sure how I feel about that. I remember hating it when Kai used Kikuchi's tracks out of order compared to how they were used in Z.

- I like that they used electric SFX for the SSJ2 aura. Too bad it wasn't consistent, and even worse, there's a scene where Goku's hair looks like SSJ1 before switching back to the SSJ2 style. That's a pretty amateurish mistake.

- I was gonna say this episode had none of the remnants of the awful animation from the infamous DBS episode 5, but then SSJ3 showed up. You can still notice some weird-looking frames, although it's a huge improvement over that absolute trainwreck of an episode.

That's a meaningless criticism. From a distance, it's obvious that the details aren't there—that's how every anime is. It's not a sign of poor artwork (which Super is full of), but simply a matter of production.

The art and animation got a massive upgrade. It gives me some hope that they can fix the abomination that was the Golden Freeza arc. Kibito Kai looks a lot better in this episode, thankfully. I feel like they are forgetting to de-oil the characters' skin in shots. I counted at least 3 shots of Goku slathered in baby oil. It goes away and reappears seconds later; it's jarring. Also, where is the music? I get wanting it to be atmospheric, but it's so awkward not having a soundtrack for the majority of the episode.

I also miss some of the humorous moments and the silliness of Whis and Beerus. That's the reason why I like those characters, not because they are brooding bad guys. The scene of Beerus exposing himself to Whis would have been a nice tone shift from the "Grr, we're very bad guys" thing they got going on. idk. I hope they start to get more like their old selves as the series progresses. DBZ had a lot of serious moments, but they allowed for moments of comedy even with big bads. Goku slapping the shit outta Freeza, Cell swatting Mr.Satan like a fly, and Buu just being his goofy, candy-loving self, etc. I'm hoping that they at least let Goku bite Beerus's tail. Idk, I need some more characterization and humor from them.

The animation wasn't really good. Morita Takeshi's tiny bit was cool and all, but the episode doesn't work because the fight has no tension. We establish before the fight even begins that Beerus is not threatened by Goku, so spending an entire fight with Goku using his three transformations to consistently fail and not really learn anything new adds absolutely nothing to his or Beerus' arcs that couldn't be done faster, with a single strike.

If they were just going to fuck with Tate Naoki's original key animation they should have just cut all of the battle animation and have Morita do a new, short bit of Super Saiyan 3 Goku begin curbstomped by Beerus in thirty seconds, then proceeded with Beerus going to Earth and interacting with Vegeta and the others for the B-Part of the episode.

Dragon Ball Super: Beerus Episode #2 is a really bad attempt at trying to make up for Dragon Ball Super Episode #5 because they don't actually go all-out with the animation. It's very head-scratching, because it would have been wiser to just cut all of this down, focus on the character beats, and then save the resources for the actual big battle between Super Saiyan God Goku and Beerus.

Buddy, this is only one example. This episode is filled with shots of characters looking butt-ugly, both at a distance and in your face. I can't help but notice the lack of detail because this is right in my face.

Image

It's IMPOSSIBLE for me not to notice how butt-ugly Goku looks, because the shot focuses on him, the rest is just an empty void with equally butt-ugly light effects that somehow look worse than a 40-year old anime.

Maybe I wouldn't be criticizing this if this production wasn't advertised as the "Enhanced version of Super." I mean, sure, looks better than the walking meme that was Episode #5 of the original Super, but damn, this franchise had seen better days.

And I really don't care about "This is just how it is on every anime." I don't settle for mediocrity.

Geez they removed quite a few gags here. The TV anime quote, Beerus flashing Whis, Beerus' reaction to the Oracle Fish bouncing around, and they even took away a few visual gags like Goku goofily hiding from Beerus and some faces that weren't even bad enough to need to be changed like that one Beerus made while he was scratching his ear.

The tension before Goku introduced himself to Beerus was funny
