The Grand Prize winner will receive an all-expense paid trip to FUNimation's Texas studio to record their voice for use as a character in a popular anime series.
Is Funi *THAT* cheap when it comes to hiring VAs? O_o ( )

Saw it.

This isn't a good idea at all. They're probably going to fuck over a character by choosing a random person from a sweepstakes to do the voice. Just for some publicity.

I highly doubt they`re actually hiring the contest winner for a long term role. They`re probably just going to let the winner voice a character in one episode of Detective Conan who has one or two lines.

That being said, I signed up for the contest anyway :) It`d be pretty cool to get my voice into an anime series, even it it`s only a couple lines.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I thought that some of the others on the board might be interested as well, which is why I mentioned this in the first place.

Like spazz said it's probably just a character that will be from a crowd or something. Or if there's a silence when a bg character's mouth isn't shown, then maybe a one-liner like "what was that all about?" You know: because North Americans can't comprehend the presence of no talking in cartoons? :P

The winner will probably get the greatest role in all of anime - Farmer w/ Shotgun! It'll be just in time for the re-dub of season 1 :)

Although a small role for a episode of Case Closed seems more likely, prolly a suspect or something.

Watch it be Edward Elric from FMA. "Just give him a minor role. Alfonse talks more than him right?"

Heh, that reminds me of how they hired most of the VAs for DBZ when they first switched to doing the dialogue in Texas. They actually put an ad in the local newspaper!
Jerseymilk: "Can I tell you something?"
B-kun: "What?"
Jerseymilk: "I see Fangirls."

Aw... It says you have to be 18. :( I think that'd be neat to be the voice of a character. :)
Yes... I am... but you don't know that...

I would guess that it's just for legal reasons....but if not, maybe Funi is trying to change their image by releasing something a bit more adult  I can only hope they would change their dumbass "giggling child" logo for a production like that. Well, time to practice my moaning in case I win the contest :)

More likely the voice they have in mind that the winner will do belongs to an adult, so they wouldn't want a 7 year-old winning. Heh, imagine a seven year-old kid doing Alex Louis Armstrong from Full Metal Alchemist. XD Okay, so we all know it won't be such a major role, but it would still be funny if it were true. ^_^

That's a good point. My thinking before reading your post was that they were just taking the easiest way concerning differring child labour laws from state to state. Kind of like how MuchMusic doesn't let Quebecers enter about 90% of their "Canada-wide" contests; they're just skipping the whole get a lawyer to verify the province's rules bit by not letting Quebecers win.
