A different DBZ: where would you have ended the story?

A different DBZ: where would you have ended the story?

Post by wolfkid » Sun Aug 01, 2004 3:46 pm

What should you have done differently about DBZ? Where should you have ended the story?

For me, the whole story was great, the things I would like to change are more in the Buu saga.

1 Goten and Trunks can’t become a SSJ. Only if they fuse, they can become a SSJ.
2 SSJ3 won’t exist, Goku battles Fat Buu in a ASSJ2 form. I mean all SSJ levels are fantasy, but SSJ3 is just to much fantasy!
3 Gotenks ultimate SSJ form is SSJ2, with this form he can match Super Buu. (Although I must admit Gotenks looks kinda cool as SSJ3)
4 No Epi’s with Goku and Vegeta being in Buu’s body. That real sucked.
5 The Potara Fusion is only for a amount of time. Elder Kai and the witch were not, because of the Witches’ magic.
6 After Goku and Vegeta aren’t fused anymore, Fat Buu comes out of Super Buu thanks to Mr. Satan. Buu transforms into Thin Buu again. (with clothes from Gohan and still the power of him, plus Piccolo, Goten, Trunks)
7 Goku beats Buu on Earth with a Spirit Bomb.
8 No Uub.

And not that many episodes with Great Saiyaman and the Tenkaichi Budokai thing.

What are your thoughts of it?

EDIT: I come later with a story like Izlude.

Not a bad idea, but here is what I would do...

Okay it all stats out like it did with the Great Saiyaman thing, but it'll be very short and actually involves Gohan and Videl dating with the annoyances of Goten and Trunks following them, and the Budokai goes as planned, cept Krillin fights Vegeta in the 1st round and loses, Goku ends up fighting Mighty Mask in the first round, and loses intentionally (he knew it was Goten and Trunks), while Piccolo and Kaioshin actally fight, and Piccolo beats the crap outta him! Android 18 wins her first match againest that pretty boy, but she loses to Vegeta, Gohan fights Kibito and pwns him, and Piccolo loses is match againest MightyMask (Goten and Trunks toy with him the whole round and make Piccolo hesitate, but upon winning, their identity is revealed and they are disqualified)

In the final round, its Gohan v.s Vegeta and the two start fighting and are evenly matched when those two buff dudes what are their names come in and jump them both, steal their energy and leave. Kibito heals Vegeta and Gohan, and Kaioshin comes in and explains what is happening. Gohan and Vegeta leave the tournement w/ Kaioshin and Kibito along w/ Goku,Krillin and Piccolo. The audience is angry with the disappointing final match, but everyone else has already been beaten, so Mr.Satan comes up and says he will take on any challenge in the audience, and Yamcha gets all excited and takes him up on his offer! Yamcha toys with Satan a bit, and even goes as far has using his Wolf Fang Fist and Sokidan, but then he is distracted when he notices fangirls cheering for him, and in an rush of rage, Satan charges Yamcha, hitting him the balls, and wins the match lol.

From there...

Dabura kills Kibito
Dabura turns Piccolo and Krillin to stone
Vegeta fights Puipui and kills him
Goku fights Yakon and wins easily
Gohan fights Dabura, and the fight ends upon Babidi seeing Vegeta has evil in him.

Vegeta fights Goku, and Gohan and Kaioshin work at getting to Babidi before Buu is revived. From there, everything else goes like it did in the series. However, I like your idea of their being no SSJ3, so I'll use your idea here! The only thing is, Piccolo, Yamcha and Krillin end up fighting Buu at the lookout to buy Goten and Trunks time to fuse, but fail, everyone dies except Piccolo, who escapes to the Room of Spirit of Time, and tries to lure Buu to come in. The Potara fusion never happens, instead, Gohan comes back like he did so originally, and joins with Goten and Trunks who almost defeated Buu. Gohan and Super Buu begin fighting, but then like so, he provokes Goten and Trunks and they fuse, and absorbs him and Piccolo, and fights Gohan.

Gohan and Super Buu have one helluva struggle, but Super Buu is just a lil bit better than Gohan, and Tien appears to try to save Gohan, but Buu survives after Tien dumps all of his energy into a Kikou and dies. Finally, Vegeta returns, and with Gohan, they both fight Buu, but its still not enough. Gohan thinks back to everything he has been through and what allowed him to surpass his limits, and with some encouragement from Vegeta, Gohan unleashes a huge Kamehameha and Super Buu unleashes his very own huge ki-blast, and the two struggle, and just like in the Cell Game, Vegeta distracts Buu, and Gohan succeeds in beating Buu!

Then after that, everyone is revived, Videl confesses to Gohan, they get married, bunch of years later, they have a tomboy daughter named Pan who is a lot like Goku, Gohan gives her nimbus and Goku's old power pole, and tells Pan to explore the world for herself, much like Grandpa Gohan did when he came back for a day and after fighting Goku :) Course, Videl is angry, but Satan takes cover for Gohan, and he gets yelled at!

And Goku is in Heaven having the time of his life, training, eating and fighting old dead villians, and just driving King Kai nuts!

The End! No DBGT!

Remember, low blows are illegal and would result in a disqualification. Other than ending it at the Cell saga, I would have ended it with the 25th Budokai. None of Babidi's guys are in or Kaioshin and Kibito. The final round would have Goku and Gohan going up against each other. They compliment each other and jump at each other, and it ends. You don't see the fight, and it's left up to the imagination.

All I would change is stuff about GT. No Uub, Goku stayed with his family so his old ennemies could of found him elsewhere and he would choose to take more than just Pan and Trunks on his journey.
Some day, you'll be wishing for today.

I might have liked it to end at the Freeza Saga... I mean, the Cell and Buu sagas were nice and all, and introduced a lot of great characters (Not to mention fights), but there was just something missing... I can't quite put my finger on it. Up to the Freeza Saga, each character was still genuinely developing, one way or another. Their strength and personalities changed, and it was noticable. After that... I dunno. I really couldn't see the results of their training anymore. Power all became big talk, fights didn't differ from each other, and in some way I think this damaged the actual feel of Dragon Ball.

But hell... My opinion won't change anything, and I love Dragon Ball for what it is. Changing developments in plots or fights will destroy that, and in light of that, I wouldn't change anything. So, er, yeah.

I wouldn't have cut anything from DBZ; not a single form of Boo, not a single SSJ transformation. Don't like it? Tough :P One thing that was annoying; after the Goku Vs. Majin Vegeta fight they don't seem to use SSJ2 at all (except Goku's warm up against Kid Boo). I would've liked to see more SSJ2.

The only other thing; I wish Toriyama had done a better job of explaining how powerful each character is in relation to each other (SSJ3 Goku, SSJ3 Gotenks, Powered up Gohan), and some way of measuring how powerful each form of Boo really was, rather relying on a few cryptic lines and judging by how they fought. Finally, I didn't mind Oob too much...except I thought he was really ugly

Okay, let's see..

SSJ3 Gotenks, Piccolo and Chou Gohan fight Super Buu.
Super Buu absorbs Gotenks.
Super Buu, now much stronger, start beating on Piccolo and Gohan.
Piccolo and Gohan, working very well together, manage to overpower Buu.
Buu tries to absorb Gohan, but Piccolo takes the hit.
Buu now totally overpowers Gohan, and toys around with him, until the Gotenks fusion ends.
Buu, understanding that he might not be able to win, tries to absorb Gohan, but is stopped by a Kikoho from Tenshinhan.
Gohan then takes the opportunity to destroy Buu once and for all.
Goten and Trunks are revived, along with Videl, Chichi, Bulma, etc. who were killed by Buu earlier. Goku, Vegeta and Piccolo stay dead. (and Kuririn, yeah... hm, let's say he wasn't killed. He went to the entrace to the room of spirit and time to watch the battle, and found the entrance destroyed. When he returned, Buu had already left.)

Everyone seems to wanna change stuff in the Buu Arc. I kind of agree simple because there was soo much going on with it all. I would have only wanted to have seen either Buu killed by Gohan (his powerup just seemed soo wasted... he is awesome for like 3 episodes and then a chump again... WTF) or have Buu Killed by Vegetas self destruct deal. Like have Vegetas change of heart happen later in the show and have him blow himself up to save everyone blah blah blah. I would go more detailed but I am feeling uninspired.

Mine would require a re-write of the entire series, which I'm doing with my Altered History story arc which begins with the story Legend of the Super Sai-jin and yes, I spelled it Sai-jin on purpose (XP), and continues on through 6 more stories/sagas.

I would like it to end with the Freeza story arc. This would be nice because it's kinda like the son of a Saiyan killed by Freeza, going up against Freeza, then achieving the legendary Super Saiyan state and defeating Freeza. If it ended there, Son Goku would be the only one to achieve Super Saiyan and be the strongest in the universe. His somehow surviving the explosion of Namek but not returning gives him a sort of heroic legacy thing.
But it would be even cooler if Goku's tail grew back during his fight with Freeza. Most of the series before, Goku had a tail, and it was sort of his trademark character trait. And, he was avenging the Saiyans, so its only fitting his tail be back.

Or, it could end at the Majin Boo story arc, but with some differences. It would be cool if Son Gohan became the hero, which is what I believe is what Toriyama had originally planned when he introduced the character. Again, I think it would be real cool if Gohan's tail was there. Or possibly it could end with Son Goku and Vegeta teaming up against Boo in their base forms, with tails. I dunno, but I really think the Saiyan "legacy" thing is cool. Then Goku should pass on the Nyoui Bo and Kintou-un to Gohan, Goten, or Pan. It should completely close with Son Goku and Vegeta competing in the final round of the Tenka-ichi Budoukai. Or possibly the group flying off to get the Dragon Balls.
I was voted "most unique" and "most likely to become the next existential thinker" in high school.

I think because that was more of an accident, they let it slide. In the dub, the announcer said he'd let it slide because it was an accident.

Yeh I know, basically what I mean is, Satan charges at Yamcha, but since he is distracted, Satan would like end up smacking him in the balls on accident hahaha... poor Yamcha, his manhood cant take much more :)

Ya know what we need though, its a DBZ Re-Write! Complete w/ illusterations! If only we had an ultimate writer+artist team who would be willing to go at it...

My changes:

1: We see Kold have a somewhat-decent fight against Trunks in order to better demonstrate the strength of Kold over Freeza, Trunks' strength as an SSJ when SSJs were new, and the strength of the coming androids (if an SSJ is THIS strong over someone who's much stronger than Freeza...! )

2: Goten+Trunks' first SSJ scenes are replaced by them powering up to their maximum. Seeing just how impressive their strength is, Gohan teaches Goten to go SSJ before Videl arrives and Vegeta teaches Trunks.

3: It's made clear that Vegeta learned to go SSJ2 over the years after Cell, only that he's still weaker than Goku (which is why he accepts the Majin power boost).

4: THERE IS SOME FORM OF LOGIC TO BOO'S TRANSFORMATIONS

5: Gotenks can only go up to SSJ2.

6: Potarra fusion wears off when the earrings are removed or broken (Rou Kaioshin would be an exception: the witch's love for the pretty earrings+her magic would result in them being replaced each time he tries to take them off).

7: Instead of the SSJ1+2+3 explanation, Goku could further explain what the hell's up with the USSJ stages. Then he could get his ass handed to him in SSJ2, which is why he would have to go back to heaven so soon (he went all out in SSJ2 against Vegeta and against Boo).

8: Instead of being in SSJ3 and needing stalling time to reach full power, the fight against Kid Boo would immidiately be Vegeta stalling so that Goku could reach SSJ3 for the only time it's shown in the story. Then SSJ3 Goku would fight completely evenly with Kid Boo until Goku ran out of energy to maintain that state.

9: The 28th Budoukai would be a complete budoukai arc in order to have some more emphasis on Pan and Oob's strength. Nobody would have made the promise to forfeit to Satan, so he's shitting bricks again. It would end at the semi-finals when we'd see Oob vs Goku. They take off, and the Vegeta vs Boo fight is a forfeit on Vegeta's part since he's no longer interested in the tourney. Satan's safe again.

9b: Pan would use the Kamehameha in her battle against Boo.

Ah, I should say there was an old topic called "If you could change one thing about DB, what would it be?" And it was basically the same thing, aside from it veering off-topic by the second page, like every thread back then. I'd hand out a link, but that might encourage necroposting, among other things.

It also made me realize that PsyLiam hasn't posted in a month. Hmm...

Back to the point. Like I probably said in the original topic, I wouldn't change anything. Pretty much because I'm so very unimaginative. The only real problems I had were with the ending, and I stopped caring about that when the kanzenban ending came around. In other words, hurray for Dragonball, because it's flawless as far as I care. Yippy.

There's not a lot I can think of to change that hasn't been mentioned already. For just the anime only, I would dispense with some of the filler stuff. Not all of it, because some of it I like. Come on, who here didn't enjoy that driving episode? But for things like Kuririn's relationship with Maron, fighting the Ginyu Tokusentai on Kaio-sama's planet, and all of the focusing on Trunks and Goten and their fusion. That got tedious after a while. I know I should actually want the Garlic Jr. Saga to stay in there since it features my two favourites Gohan and Piccolo, but you just can't have an entire saga without Goku now, can you? It's just not DBZ!

I would also take out the "Saiyajin bias" that Toriyama seemed to develop at the start of the Android Saga. That's why my favourite part of DBZ is the beginning up to the end of the Freeza Saga, because it didn't have that. It had "the old gang" as I like to call them. Yamucha, Tenshinhan, and the others. And there was still room for them to be considered serious contenders in the fights going on. Afterwards, it gets so ridiculous, the show should have changed it's name to "Super Saiyajin Z". It's not that I don't enjoy watching Goku, Gohan, Vegita, and Trunks. It's just that I miss seeing the others fight too.

The other thing I would change is the fact that power levels were constantly talked about and focused on at first, and then just dropped halfway through the series. It just makes things really awkward. I mean you get used to hearing characters say a number, helping to indicate the magnitude of strength present in someone and then it's not done anymore. :? And I know others have stated before me that it's very hard to gauge exactly how strong various characters are, especially during the Buu Saga. I think perhaps keeping the power levels might have helped. I guess Toriyama got lazy with it when he realized as Goku and the others kept getting stronger, that the numbers were going to get very big and harder to keep track of! :D But he should have either kept them anyway or never had them in the first place. It would have been less confusing for fans then casting it aside halfway through.

Well, that's all I can think of at least for now. ^_^

I wouldn't mind if it ended in the Freeza Saga. The only changes I would make is the ending of the Buu Saga. I would have Uub be an orphan taken in by his villagers and went to the tournament to help them out. Goku would tell Uub that Satan would give his village money and Goku take Uub into his home and train him, similar to how Gohan Sr. took Goku in and raised and trained him. I'm sure ChiChi would prefer that more than having her husband visit her everyone once in a while. That way Goku wouldn't have to leave and he'll get his fight and add another defender to Earth since Goten and Trunks had slacked on their training and Gohan just retired. I know Gohan doesn't fight like his Dad but I was disappointed at how Gohan completely gave up training and focused on his family and career. He should've learned from Buu that you can't just give up fighting. Goku retired during those five years between DB and DBZ, but he still trained every now and then and he was still a husband and father to his family. I would prefer if Goten wasn't lazy in fighting since he wasn't like that as a kid. He wanted to get stronger and since he took after Goku so much, you'd think he'd like fighting more.

Well, technically, it was Yamucha who hit Shen's head with his balls. During a jump kick.

Which reminds me, I'd also have Yamucha do stuff, instead of just being there. What about letting him be the one who kills Babidi? He's probably strong enough to handle him.

I had another neat idea; If I could change DBZ, I would have it that Goku was completly absent during the Cell saga. He defeats Freeza, they find out he's alive but doesn't want to return for some reason, and leaves the Earth up to Gohan.

Then the Cell saga could've focused completly on Gohan, Piccolo, Trunks and Vegeta. Everything would've happened the same way (minus Cell's self destruct) up until the Boo saga, when Goku would finally return.

I think this would've kept the series a lot more fresh, and would've made Goku's return all the more awesome :D
