I don't follow any Japanese popular culture outside of anime and manga so I came here for help!

Ok, my question is: Other than being a huge icon among the anime world for his work with numerous intro songs and what not, is Kageyama a popular musician outside of the anime world? I know he's involved with Jam Project, but I don't know if they are a national hit in Japan. Maybe a comparison to an American artist would help me grasp this better.

It means that he was in non-anime related band, back in the day.

It's true he had his own band back in the day. But, in my opinion, his real talent lied within the Dragon Ball music he did. Songs like "SIGN ~Kizashi~", "THE BIGGEST FIGHT ~Gekitotsu~", "MIND POWER...Ki..." and "Unmei no Hi ~Tamashii vs Tamashii~" really brought out his vocal potential.
