I thought Beelzebub's dad WAS Dabura, since Dabura is king of the demon world and Beelzebub is a prince. I assume the flame is actually a spirit that's acting as a booklight. And he is reading Faust.

Actually, the Japanese version refers to him as "Satan," although Viz's version calls him "Lucifer" (presumably because saying "the great Satan" would look inappropriate).

But! =raises finger= Maybe Satan is simply the name men know him by, whereas Dabura is his true name. Babidi, being a magician, was able to find out Satan's true name. And knowing his true name was the way he gained power over him.

I actually can't remember if Babidi explains how he gets to controlling the king of the demon world.

He can easily control the evil in people's hearts. So, Dabura was an easy target. That's why he picks to go after Vegeta when they later arrive on earth. Seeing as he wasn't pure evil (and he was full of pride), Vegeta was able to use Babidi like 10 cent whore and move on.

Anyway, I only remember seeing the English version and just having Dabura appear, introduced as king of the demon world or whatever...and kicking ass. For like 3 episodes, anyway.

And let me stop derailing yet another thread.
