Aren't the Dragonball DVD sets out of print?

Post by JulieYBM » Tue Aug 19, 2008 11:11 pm

Today while at my local Base Exchange (BX) on the local air force base I came across four shiney new copies of the King Piccolo Saga Part 1 set for $27.95 (there's a chance I may grab soon). But are not the sets out of print? I know my local Half Price books store was selling the Piccolo Jr. Saga Part 2 set for $90 and they said on Amazon it was even more expensive...

All of the DB sets in that style are out of print, and some of them are very rare now.

I have both 23rd Budoukai sets; I wish I'd bought some of the other episodes had I known they'd go out of print.
On hiatus.

It seems there is a wealth of Dragonball DVDs on Ebay(Commander Red,Tenshinhan,General Blue, Baba). Those four can be bought for very cheap. I take it Funi is creating a demand so the Season Sets for DB will sell a lot.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Damn I only had 2 sets to buy to complete my set. I only needed the tournament saga and the last piccolo junior set. The tournament saga is the rarest to get out of all.

Raki's gotta be right about those four being less rare because I have General Blue, T ienshinhan, and Fortune Teller Baba; all of which I got in stores except for Gen. Blue which I picked up at a con. No joke guys, at a used movie place near me that I go to often, they're pricing the Tournament saga at $189.99!

As long as Funi does end up releasing all of Dragonball in their season set format and leave the footage in it's intended 4:3 format I will have no need to buy these sets.

I pretty upset that these sets are OOP. Minus some video quality issues and not having Episodes 1-13 uncut these were a pretty solid release.
Be grateful the filler in Dragon Ball doesn't suck like the 3rd arc of Rurouni Kenshin.

I'm intensly glad that I bought the tournamemt set and all of the 23rd Budokai discs when they came out- I now own all of them except for Red Ribbon and the first one.. which isn't available here < <

If I'd been deprived of the Pic and Daimaou stuff and the best fight in the whole show this long, I mighta hurt somebody.

I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

I cannot begin to explain my unending love for the Piccolo vs Son Goku fight in the 23rd Budokai. Last fight in the show where people were really dead-even with the competition, where most of the fighting is still just pummeling the crap out of each other personally instead of zanzokens up in the sky, and it was just so freaking badass. Also some of my favorite art in the whole set of series. And I'm just a little crazy about that rivalry. I love this fight ^^

They are still available in Australia, if you can get them shipped.

Don't those just come in six and six boxsets though? Because if I already have four out of six, it sounds like a colossal waste of money. And it would just be annoying to look at that many doubles.

Madman do ship internationally, and the sets are plentiful on Ebay.

People really should snap them up, the entirity of DB for under 200 dollars, thats 153 episodes uncut and bilingual, don't wait for them to dissapear when FUNimation churns out a "remastered" release.

They are out of stock. Like a year or so ago, I ordered like... 3 Cell Games DVDs from bestbuy.com (they had it on the damn site, so naturally one would assume they still had them somewhere) and they told me that it should be shipped in like 3 days. Then said that it should be coming in about 2 weeks. Then, it was backordered and scheduled to come within 3 months. Then it was just canceled altogether because it was out of print.

Luckly I bought the Piccolo sets when they came out...

General Blue, Red Ribbon, and Baba I bought from Ebay.

I ended up buying Saga of Goku and Tournament saga from Madman (via ebay) when I learned one of my DVD players was region free.

Being as I own six Dragonball sets already, I would have extras. I can't justify dropping 200 dollars for 5 sets.

Madman 2-Disc Sets

Post by klokwerk » Wed Aug 20, 2008 8:45 pm

What sets are you after specifically? I had bought several before the 2 big boxes came out. After I purchased them (see here and here), I have a few redundant copies of certain sets. I've checked and they are:

* Collection 1: The Saga of Goku (Eps 1-13)
* Collection 2: Tournament Saga (Eps 14-28)
* Collection 3: Red Ribbon Army (Eps 29-45)
* Collection 9: King Piccolo Saga Part 2 (Eps 112-122) [equivalent to US 8.2]
* Collection 10: Piccolo Junior Saga Part 1 (Eps 123-137) [equivalent to US 9.1]

If you need any of these perhaps we can work out something via PM. Note, these are the R4 PAL Madman releases as I live in Australia.
