So I guess we can only hope (lmao "hope") that the fight scenes will be good and that the acting will be decent.
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

The shots with Chatwin actually look pretty decent. I still have no clue as to what to make with this movie though. Also, wut the eff? Spike from Buffy makes a cameo appearance?! That is so cool!
In any case, judging from these screenshots; the movie gives off a Mortal Kombat live action movie to me.

Sad thing is, I was hoping this was going to turn out good and silence a lot of folk. But I can't.
Chatwin does get a Goku feeling though from some of those pictures. *Must keep focus away from Spike/Piccolo hybrid*

I’ve personally always loved it and considered it one of the last truly good live action American TV shows before I stopped giving a crap entirely about TV as a whole… but that’s neither here nor there.SonEric84 wrote:Oh god...I can't stand that show.
It’s kinda ironic that for many years prior to real news of this movie, Onikage and I have always likened Spike to Piccolo… but we always did so via the drastically similar elements of their respective character arcs, and little else. When news first broke that Marsters was cast as Piccolo, both myself and Onikage were excited mainly because we knew that Marsters had nailed this type of character before on Buffy.
The fact that they’re also making him basically LOOK the same as on Buffy rather than like, y’know, Piccolo… well that’s just… lame.

But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

I honestly cannot wait for this movie to come out. If nothing else, it's going to make for one hell of a midnight showing/spontaneous amateur MST3K performance.
In related news, I can't look away from Spikeolo's scalp. It's entrancing. It has ripples. This is horrible and I love it.
(Editing to say that though I remain unconvinced as to Chatwin's suitability as Goku - has Chatwin ever played a role that called for an emotion other than pouty? - he does look pretty righteous in the action-related stills.)

I was mainly looking forward to the film for the same reason I looked forward to Transformers.
I get to bust out my dvd sets and educate my friends for an hour or two before we go and see the film adaption.
For Dragonball I was thinking something like the Bardock Special, Path to Power (trying to make it look chronological) and then maybe finishing with the "ZOMG you're a Saiya-jin" episodes.
But now I just feel like staying home and crying.

All jokes aside lets be serious here. We're all gonna go see this movie. We have to. We just have to. Then we're gonna come back here and post about it and how bad it was. Or how average it was. Or how they changed everything but the fighting was good.

That sounds more or less accurate to me.Chrono Trigger wrote:All jokes aside lets be serious here. We're all gonna go see this movie. We have to. We just have to. I can't watch this in the theater. I just can't justify giving them $10 for essentially tearing the Piccolo arc apart.
I'll wait for it to air on HBO or Showtime and watch it on TV instead.

I like it.
I know Piccolo's not spot-on, but there's still a lot of similarities in the details. I still get the same "Piccolo" vibe from him, and we KNOW Marsters is gonna act the part splendidly.

Sorry if I sound like an ass, but where exactly do you get the Piccolo "vibe" from, if we didn't know James Marsters was cast in the role, is there any way you would actually look at that picture and think "Oh, that's Piccolo"SSj Kaboom wrote: I know Piccolo's not spot-on, but there's still a lot of similarities in the details. Anyway, I do agree with you on Marsters though, at the very least he'll act the shit out of the role.
