Season 7 Boxart changed to...
Believe it or not, the cover does matter.
There ARE people who don't know what exactly each season covers, so the only way they'd be able to tell is to have to look at the back cover.
Using Saiyan Saga Piccolo for a late-DBZ set ends up making people looking at first glance wondering if that's an early DVD or not.

I hear ya. As much as I don't mind the word nakama, it needs to be translated. End of story.Tsukento wrote:Oh WHY did you guys have to bring up the whole nakama bit with One Piece?
It's bad enough I have to put up with a bunch of rambling morons who take all of the fansubs of One Piece literally and think Chopper shoots out nothing but swears out of his tiny mouth, or how they think "Gum-Gum" is a "terrible translation" of Gomu Gomu no.
I wouldn't have minded keeping "Gomu Gomu no" in the English version to be honest. A technique name is all right in my book. Stuff like kaio-ken, hadouken, shoryuken and lots more were kept in the English version of things, so why not Gomu Gomu?
But again, I don't care. Gum Gum sounds good
Exactly. Believe it or not, a kid will go into the store yelling "MOMMY, SUPER SAIYAN 2 GOHAN (Or...Brolly) IS SOOOO COOOL I WANT THIS!". Piccolo just doesn't give off that vibe.Believe it or not, the cover does matter.

WTF is this? Piccolo's more hardcore and magnetic than everyone on the previous covers combined!fps_anth wrote:Piccolo just doesn't give off that vibe.

But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

I agree with you, but the fact that it's Piccolo and not an awesome looking Super Saiyan is the problem. Majin Vegeta is not only an awesome looking SSJ, but he's relevant to the content as well. Very relevant.

Oh crap, I didn't know that. My mistake. I guess Great Saiyaman would be the best choice then.Kunzait_83 wrote:I’m sorry, but I gotta disagree with you on both counts. First off, Majin Vegeta's episodes are nowhere on this set. This set is gonna cover from the Anoyoichi Budokai, through the Great Saiyaman adventures, through the 25th Tenkaichi Budokai, and stops right on the first appearance of Babidi. Majin Vegeta won’t be making his debut until the next set. So he’d be just as irrelevant.fps_anth wrote:I agree with you, but the fact that it's Piccolo and not an awesome looking Super Saiyan is the problem. As for the whole SSJ thing, you're right, but that still doesn't mean all the kiddies won't jump all over them when they show up. Or even a bad ass looking villian. But this Piccolo cover just doesn't sit right with me, knowing that it's from the second freaking episode of DBZ.
LOL I forgot about that show. Considering they've never gotten the Japanese audio on any release, I guess they do have it worse than us.Yu-Gi-Oh says hi.
I remember some YGO uncut DVDs being released a couple of years back, and they were done extremely well. Then they just cancelled it...bastards.
Not THAT well. The video content was uncut, and the Japanese track was finally there, but it was dubtitles. It's like they said, "fine, we'll give you the Japanese, but we still don't wanna let you know what they're REALLY saying."fps_anth wrote:I remember some YGO uncut DVDs being released a couple of years back, and they were done extremely well. Yeah, I happened to come across the first volume of it in a bargain bin a while ago. I got all excited, started watching it in Japanese, then was like... "wait, why do the subs say the same thing?"fps_anth wrote:Oh crap. Never noticed that. Lazy people...
Shaman King was the other series they did the half-assed uncut release of, and I'm pretty sure it got the same treatment.

Aro started to laugh. “Ha, ha, ha,” he chuckled.- Actual quote from Twilight

I feel I have to point out...Those examples...Some are very informal english worlds while "Friend" and "Team" seem much more formal.SSj Kaboom wrote:There are plenty of acceptable translations, and picking an appropriate one is simply a matter of mood and context. Shipmate, comrade, ally, friend, team, etc...rackhami wrote:I've always assumed they chose to retain "nakama" simply because it's a difficult word to translate, given there isn't a direct English equivalent available and the alternative English translations that are available don't necessarily convey the meaning and the connotations of its usage. I do recognize that this is entirely a matter of taste. I like "nakama" and I think keeping it as is, is the lesser of two evils - but again, that's just my personal preference.
Take the ever so classic scene right after Luffy defeats Arlong for example...I've always believed it should be translated as "Nami...You are my FRIEND."
However Viz went with Shipmate which kind of made me sad when I first read it.
On topic though...I really like the fact that Piccolo's getting some love on the covers. He deserves it. I really don't care that the image isn't relavent to the Episodes. I'd rather have a cool looking cover that isn't relavant to the Episodes then a lame one that is.
Besides, what will attract the common fan to the shelves more? A kick ass Piccolo shot...Or Saiyaman doing an odd Ginyu inspired pose?
