Also, I would prefer comments on the quality of my drawing, as opposed to your opinion on the redesign, both are welcome though.

I am a strong supporter of not using the term "not bad". Although you are saying that some thing is not bad, it still has the term bad in it, which makes the reader think you actually don't like it and your just saying, "eh, it's not bad, bleh". It's a psychological thing.
That's why I always say stuff like, "Hey, that's great, or hey that's pretty good, or very solid" and what not.
You can't tell people how to give their opinions on your art, even if it does offend you in some strange way. That's like George Lucas going "okay everyone I'm going to release episode 1 but make sure nobody says it's bad or anything in their reviews, I'm a firm believer in anti-negativity!" It's especially okay if "not bad" fits what I think about the picture exactly.

"Not bad" shows that the reviewer not thought much of the artists work to begin with, but when watching the work that he reviewes, thinks "That was not bad" as "not as bad as I thought". Of course this is how an amateur would do it.

But personally, I think that "not bad" is a weak review, and those "reviews" should not even be considered as anything serious or something to even care of.

Frankly the message "not bad" gives nothing solid for the artist to grab on, and by putting up their works for your free enjoyment, the least you can do is to give a proper review.
And also, if he gives his art to you, please show some respect and be polite enough to instead of writing stuff like "YOU ARE NOT MY MOM! YOU CAN'T TELL ME HOW TO POST STUFF!", write something proper, or don't at all.

@ NeptuneKai: George Lucas don't get critisism such as "not bad" as the reviewers are professionals, not a bunch of kids with problems to express their views.

An artist can not tell a person how to review his work, even if I wanted to do it in all caps and use internet slang I'd have the right to do so. It has nothing to do with respect an artist should be able to accept all criticism whether he has a beef with a phrase or doesn't agree with the reviewer etc.

But if a reviewer WANTED to say not bad he could have. Once more an artist can't tell people how to review his work. You should probably stop being up everybody's ass and chill out.

I'm expressing my opinion, and it seems like it isn't appreciated that much by you, which is you doing something wrong.

You see, you took the side of the guys not liking that he "demands" positively spoken words, and I took the artist's side, claiming that it wouldn't be a big deal.

I am not doing more things wrong than you are, as you are up his ass about telling you to be positive, and I'm up your asses for you telling him he has no right. And that's a debate. Or sort of anyways.

Why in the shoznot would it matter for you to speak positively instead of negatively as he says? I'm just trying to make you understand how he feels instead of just blowing his comment away.
He gave you a drawing, you give him a good review.

What I mean is that if you watch his work, the least you could do is to show some respect, and if he tells you to say "good" instead of "not bad", why is it so hard to do?

I understand that you think that he cannot tell you how to review his drawing, but come on, he only wants it positively said, and that's not a crime.

It's you guys that are exaggerating his request.

A 3 post dispute will hardly get a thread locked, if the current movie thread hasn't been locked yet this won't be, don't worry.

Oh, just stop it. Discussing a lock is worse than just trying to get a thread back on track. Discussing a lock can just make that more likely, while the latter can save a thread from otherwise certain doom.

And in that regard, I really like Remix's redesign. I think it may be erring too far on the side of making the actual armor "look" realistic, but that's the artists' choice. And the art itself is very nice, though the boots look like they don't know if they want to be scrunched up or boxy. That'd be my only complaint.

Actually, it was omegacwa that made the armor redesign picture.

Oh, my mistake. I sincerely apologize to omega, I simply confused the two.

Your fanworks thread? C'mon Kaboom you know better. This is merely a thread dedicated for everyone, with contributions from everyone. Not going against you, just correcting you with the best intentions in mind.

In any case, yes let's all calm our balls and be a little more civil in here. The fanworks thread is a haven in Daizex, let's keep it rollin!

Also, as a reminder, those of whom choose to post their artwork, or fan stories for viewing should be expecting both positive and/or negative reviews. Unless the criticism isn't even about the artwork anymore, and is directed towards other subjects without any relevance to the work, there's really no need to go against the reviewer.

Ditto above.

If you have the guts to post your art, have the guts to take some abuse.

Well, I started it, I kept it running, I got it stickied, and I've had to play mini-moderator within it once or twice. This thread's like my baby. But you're right, it's for everyone.

Actually, you said that "nobody cares" which you couldn't know, and by the time you wrote your witty post, your previous ones were old news.
Also, I don't remember quoting you in my first replies, which means that I didn't know of you, and that you had nothing to do with my reply whatsoever.
You have still failed to tell me who these "nobody" guys you speak of are.

Anywho, to not get this thread locked down (as there is more fanart here than musicvideos in the AMV section, and we should be grateful this "inferior" artform even gets it's own thread) , I wanna comment on Pain's contribution:

It looks nice, but maybe a bit of color would make the picture more alive. Since it's your own design, I can't really tell if some stuff in the drawing were meant to look like they do or not.
Maybe you should try with help lines, and thus you can do a better anatomically facial structures. But overall I can't say much more.
It's good, but it looks like you know more that it's in the picture. Looking forward to watching more of your work.

And if anybody wants to persist on arguing just do so by PM's. No need to lay it all out here for all to see.
