I was arguing with myself over whether or not this deserved its on thread, and decided against it. Anyway....

I'm actually curious about how the release of the movie might affect future releases of the original material? We know that when older books get turned into movies, a new edition of that book with the movie's poster as the cover comes out. There is usually a resurgence of the old stuff coming out, I've seen action figures re-issued and television series getting new TV airings thanks to a movie adaptation. For example, Toon Disney started showing the Iron Man and Batman cartoons soon after their respective hero's movies came into theaters.

I'm wondering if we'll get any new or reprinted products post release of the film, if it does end up doing well.

Oh I can see it now. Dragon Ball: The Animated Series. (By Bruce Timm) :| Then they'll come out with a game based on the movie and it'll be made by Activision and it'll involve Movie Goku in a free roam Dragon World and it'll follow the movies story but just like another super hero game, it'll have extra "Live Action" versions of other villians and bonus stories.

I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

Er, I was actually thinking more along the lines of some version of the anime getting back on Cartoon Network. =p

I know. I've just always wanted to see a different take on the Dragon World.

I'm hoping the various Dragon Ball licenses between Toei and Funi are tied tight enough to prevent such a monstrosity.
I'm sorry, I just can't bear what they've done to Piccolo.

....would this theoretical Animated Series "Goku" be voiced by Mr. Schemmel?

I don't know. I can barely picture what an "Animated Series" would even be like. If he wasn't voiced by Mr. Schemmel could you imagine the controversy ? People at Funimation would be like "It should be US voicing these characters!" and that's just the them. Imagine how pissed off hard core fans would be and then you'd have the group of fans that actually LIKE the show. There would be arguments for years!

Oh if only, if only...

If you want someone to take Dragon Ball, streamline it, adding what works while removing what doesn't and then add in phenomenal animation, character designs and actors, he's the man to do it.

I'd assume Schemmel wouldn't be too bent out over it. He calls himself the Roger Moore of Gokû actors (that's a Bond reference).

Pretty much. I couldn't argue against a Bruce Timm Dragon Ball.

If by that you mean make him cooler, more frightening and making him work in live-action I agree, only I can bear that.

I agree he certainly is more frightening.

I think he looks absolutely awful and atrociously insulting to Mr. Toriyama's original design. I fail to see how making Piccolo a pale, yellow, bald version of Spike makes him frightening.

He looks like a bad vampire rip-off.

I concede that a violet gi would look garrish in live-action, and I would've gone with a dark navy blue instead for Piccolo; but I would never dream of changing his skin color.

If the Hulk can be green, I don't see why Piccolo cannot.

Hmmmm… well Roger Moore was always my least favorite Bond anyway.

Would that theoretically make Nozawa the Sean Connery? :?

Or is this one of those "only English language VA’s count" analogies and Ian Crolett is the Connery (original and best remembered) and Peter Kalemis is the George Lazenby (short lived, half forgotten transition replacement between two more memorable long terms)? Would this then make Kirby Morrow the Pierce Brosnan? Or what abut the "Big Green" UK dub Goku? Would he be the Dalton? (…I kinda like Dalton’s Bond too much to compare him to “Big Green” Goku…)

Who would then fill the Daniel Craig spot?

Or David Niven from the spoofy 60’s Casino Royale?

Or what about the dude who played “Jimmy Bond” on the old Casino Royale TV movie from the 50’s?

And what of Kid Goku's English voice actors?

Or does the Bond analogy not count until Son's testicles drop?

Are we absolutely sure that this is JUST an English VA anology or should we drag Nozawa and the international dub actors into this?

And dare I ask... where would Mr. Chatwin fit into this puzzle?

Hurm... who’d have thought one random out of context Schemmel quote could leave so many nagging questions… :?: :?: :?:

I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

Bruce Timm's a genuis and if I were going to entrust that responsibility to anyone in the US it'd be him. The 90's Batman was one of the best animated series made for American television.

"One of"? What was the best? =p

My vote would go to Gargoyles if not Batman.

Samurai Jack was phenominal, suprisingly inteligent and artistically done as well. If I thought for a while I could maybe come up with two, three other shows that were that good while being aimed at a younger audience.

1) He IS green. A faded green because he was locked in a jar for 2,000 years.
2) Oh my god a character isn't green this movie is gonna suck! ... see how ridiculous that sounds?
3) He will be more green later when he turns into Piccolo JR.

Oh, man, though I'd be interested to see how an American version of animated Dragonball would turn out, I can't help but think it would end up something like this (thankfully never realized) American anime adaptation.

Can you imagine? There would be Gokuu, the shy, sensitive type. Chichi, his fiery Latina girlfriend. Bulma, the brainy, over-achieving African-American girl. Yamcha, the nerdy Asian guy. And Krillin, the developmentally disabled kid with a heart of gold. They may all be different, but they each use their unique abilities to work together as a team as they overcome obstacles and learn valuable life lessons! Huzzah!

As for the movie taking place in a martial arts high school, there are already series out there that take place in that sort of setting, like Ikki Tousen and Tenjou Tenge. Based on those models, the movie would turn out to be a bunch of violence and fan service, and no one wants that, right?

No he isn't, while there is a very slight yellow/greenish/gangrenous tint to him, saying he is "faded green" is simply wishful thinking.

Where are you getting this information?, if you're going to make claims like that, site a reliable source, "It's a rumor" doesn't count.
