When will it end?

Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

When will it end?

Post by Super 17 » Tue Sep 16, 2008 3:33 pm

When will everything DB/Z/GT end as far for the releases. I mean video games, DVD releases in America and even Japan. I'm going to go with the year 2012. After that year there will be no more releases of anything Dragon Ball according to me. What do you guys think?

As long as Dragon Ball still brings in the $, we'll never see an end to DB/Z/GT releases.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

^ Yep, but I think Japan might not get a home video release for a long time now since they have the Dragonbox and the single release. If anything a Blu-Ray release might happen in the later part of the next decade. Video Games though will always be made as long as there's a console to put it on.
Be grateful the filler in Dragon Ball doesn't suck like the 3rd arc of Rurouni Kenshin.

Well, I wouldn't pick 2012 if only because its the "new Y2K" as far as people freaking out over numbers. (Have you seen some of the books they have out about that year? *Shakes her head in dismay* ^^;;; )

When I do I think DB releases will be over?

Is it bad that I think it'll hinge on how well the "adaption" does? Because I figure if that bombs we'll probably be completely done by some time in 2010. Now if it does well, I can see them stringing it along for several additional years where they'll make live-action sequels and such.

OR for all I know Jump Tour will get into the habit of coming out with a new animated special ever year.

Either way, if it disappears in the next four or five years it will no doubt return as a form of nostalgia (in the U.S. I mean) 10 or 15 years from now ala the Ninja Turtles.
On hiatus.

I just don't see it ending anytime soon at all. The new animated special will likely spurr a relaunch of some kind, even if it is just a random re-release of previous versions of merchandising.

I predict Fan Favorites collections à la Star Strek series, if nothing else. Then of course, we'll get the ultimate uncut editions of those collections, as well as the remastered neural-feed editions (once bioware technology finally gets invented), of course.

As soon as ADV takes the dubbing rights to Dragonball and gives it a better dub, they will air it on T.V for awhile but then they will take it off and only release the DVD sets in a 14 episode pack for the price of $40. They won't make enough money that way so bye bye Dragonball.

I'm gonna say never. As long as new technology keeps coming out, Dragon Ball will probably keep being re-released for it. Next will be Blu-ray, obviously, but something else is bound to replace that eventually.

I mean, I recently got one of my favorite old series, Mysterious Cities of Gold, on DVD. That show's as old as I am! If that can disappear into obscurity, then come back as a massive nostalgia bomb for everyone decades later, I doubt we'll ever see the complete end of Dragon Ball.

In other words, there's always going to be a group of people who'll buy obscure old stuff.

A couple centuries from now, we'll be IN the series, fighting alongside Goku in the holodeck.

'Course, by then, we'll have technology that makes Capsules and skycars and such seem like stone knives and bearskins, so it'll be considered a "periodical drama" or something.

Then maybe Blu-ray or HD DVD discs.

Wouldn't it be the franchise that never ends? The show did end over a decade ago.

I'm not trying to step on your toes or anything, I'm just saying. :)

But seriously, I don't really see the series dying out anytime soon(or at all.) As stated before, as long as it brings in the mega moolah, people will continue to use Dragonball to bring in said moolah.

After Dragonball AF, which the Japanese and Julian have been hiding from us, has been dubbed and thoroughly milked for cash.

It'll eventually come to being able to watch any DB-Z-GT episode through brain implants and all you need to do is tap the side of your head.

We can do that now. Just think about an episode and then daydream about it from start to finish.

It could be a while. Dragonball tends to get more new merchandise than most of the current big series. Also, Toriyama seems to be dabbling back in it quite a bit, lately.
