Wikipedia (lol credible source) wrote:Funimation Entertainment began releasing Dragon Ball to DVD Funimation originally began releasing Dragon Ball in "Ultimate Uncut" DVD releases
In 2006, FUNimation canceled the Ultimate Uncut DVD releases and moved to remaster all 291 episodes of Dragon Ball Z on DVD season boxsets. These contain remastered footage in widescreen format and also the choice between the English dialogue with either the American BGM or the original Japanese BGM. Also some of the FUNimation voice cast re-dubbed themselves in the episodes that they originally started from in order to keep consistency with the new dub. Some of the current voice actors, who were not present during the dubbing of these early episodes, have also re-dubbed themselves over the old voices. In 2007, Season 1 (39 episodes) was released on February 6, Season 2 (35 episodes) was released on May 25, and Season 3 (33 episodes) was released on September 18. In 2008, Season 4 (32 episodes) was released on February 19, as well as the two DBZ specials in a remastered form, Season 5 (26 episodes) was released on May 27, as well as the first two DBZ movies in a remastered form, and Season 6 and the third and fourth movies will be released on September 16, 2008. Season 7 and the fifth and sixth movies will be released on November 11, 2008. Dragon Ball GT Season 1 will also be released on November 11, 2008.
Funimation plans on releasing box sets of Dragon Ball when Lionsgate's license of the first movie and 13 episodes expires in 2010.
Dragon Ball - Season One TBA 28, (1-28) Emperor Pilaf and Tournament Sagas
Dragon Ball - Season Two TBA 29, (29-57) Red Ribbon Army and General Blue Sagas
Dragon Ball - Season Three TBA 26, (58-83) Commander Red and Fortuneteller Baba Sagas
Dragon Ball - Season Four TBA 39, (84-122) Tienshinhan and King Piccolo Sagas
Dragon Ball - Season Five TBA 31, (123-153) Piccolo Jr Saga
What the hell? Wikipedia has shown some strange things before, but this?
Can anyone confirm
any of this? Even the Lionsgate licence expiring in 2010?
2010 isn't really that far away, and I admit this made me pretty happy even though it could very well be completely fake.

I think this is fake. At least for Pilaf the 21st Budokai sets. And we'd more than likely hear that from Funimation first than Wiki.
Be grateful the filler in Dragon Ball doesn't suck like the 3rd arc of Rurouni Kenshin.

I'm going to go to the fact that that they might and they might not. The fact that I don't think Funimation will remaster these sets are since there is nothing to remaster. They already have the original BGM and the dialogue is alright I guess. For the fact that I think they might is because the Dragon Ball season sets are out of print and maybe when they get the rights to the first 13 episodes they might start releasing season sets.

I'm jumping on the "this is fake" wagon too. If this were true, Wiki wouldn't be the only one with info. Plus, it all seems a little too planned out, no? I mean, a list of all the upcoming sets with episode count and everything? We never got that.
I call shenanigans.

Well they could remaster the video like the GT sets might be even though we don't have any idea what they'll be like. A lot of the times the video would just crap out on you because they had 7-8 episodes a disc on the original release.
Yeah I'm in agreement that the original sets were fine but they're OOP now and that's a crime in my book.

Can we get a link to the actual article? I'm looking around in the general "Dragonball" one and can't seem to find this. I want to see it for myself.

Thank you.
...Yup. Not a single bit of citation to be seen. It's bullcrap.
Though it would be nice if there were any indication of Lionsgate's deathgrip on that license expiring.

Yeah...I'm all for the "This is fake" thing...I don't think even Funimation is stupid enough to try and remaster DB. Considering how old the film is and how they saw how Season's 1 & 2 came out for Z...Er...Yeah.

I don't know...I'd say they're plenty "stupid" enough. Though, whats the popularity of Dragonball in the west like, compared to Z? Anyway, whenever Lionsgate's license expires I'd atleast expect a re-release of all the old saga sets along with the "Saga of Goku".

What I don't get is why Lionsgate isn't putting it out on their own. Haven't seen the box of those first 13 eps in a while. Or are they just being like greedy overlords hoarding and laughing evilly?

They did release them. Heavily edited though.
Unless you mean, "why don't they release them uncut?".

I think Super Sonic meant like how Funi is doing and putting out more sets for the first 13 episodes.
Then again like he said I'm pretty sure they're being greedy overlords too.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again people;
Get them while they're hot.
The Madman sets are cheap, completely uncut and this includes the "Saga of Goku", why wait for an inferior, incomplete and more expensive product?

How is Lionsgate being greedy? Wasn't all this a matter of FUNi not wanting to split the profits? Even if it is a matter of selling remaining rights to FUNi, it just means FUNi is being patient, not that Lionsgate is greedy.

Because I want to be able to play it on any of my DVD players and lend it out to friends. Only reason I have.

I'm calling either fake or false statement. Fuck, they can't even get the right city Future Gohan died in! I'm not trusting this source.
Even if they ever come out with Dragonball Season sets. Episodes 1-13 won't be released. Lion's Gate still have the distribution rights indefinitely. I wonder why they won't even let Funimation have them back? It's not like Lion's Gate is making money. Plus, if Lion's Gate allowed Funi to re-dub and fuck the video up some more; they could just ask for the cut the 13 episodes are valued at, as the sets sell. So like a cut of the profits.
So, for a moment, lets go with Wiki's list of episode count for the first season set: 28 episodes.
Lets same $30...13 episodes divide by 28 episodes...Lion's Gate could earn like about 46-47 percent of the profits.
It's a quick idea. But hey, maybe we could get those episodes with this solution.
Gohan: "You're a Buddhist." Kuririn: "A hungry Buddhist!"

Whether we think they "should" or not, if FUNimation wants to release DragonBall Season Sets once they're through with them for Z and GT, they'll need to work SOME sort of deal out with LionsGate for those 13 episodes. I've got a hunch that it's probably just a matter of offering enough cash to get the rights back.

Hopefully!
Even though the sets look poor, I still wanna catch'em all. So I hope we get all Dragonball episodes.

How much would the shipping be though? Ordering from Australia sounds risky. Too much could go wrong.
