I showed knowledge of all of this in the e-mail I sent, why the fuck even reply?
It's called a "form letter." They see "first 13 episodes of the Dragon Ball" and they automatically send this one. Hell, they might even have a filter that sends it without the need for the e-mail to ever see human eyes.

Wait--so is the first GT set December 9th or November 11th? I thought it was December 9th until I got Z Season 6 and saw GT's date as November 11th in the release schedule that came with the set.

This whole ordeal is confusing.

wait, you can plug in a USB drive with video files on it, and it will play them? WHAT?!?!?! Dude you HAVE to give me a link to a DVD player like this.
The beauty being that it cost more to make a dvd player region specific. So the el cheapo ones don't bother.

Adverts on their site say Dragon Ball Z season 6 is out tomorrow (19th).

Actually it's been out since the 16th. Oh and get this. You know what else was released? The SPANISH version of volume 10 of the Ultimate Uncut. Seriously... The thought that goes through my mind is... what the hell?

When you think about it, what's 2010? That's a year and a few months away. I guess they figure DBZ fans can wait that long. I just find it funny that I started watching the series when I was...hm. I want to say 7 or 8 and now I'm going to be 22 when they are still releasing it. Truth be told, I don't want to be that 22 year old guy rushing into the store looking for Dragon Ball.

Sorry, but I gotta call shenanigans here, the Madman DB sets are identical to the US releases (apart from being PAL format obviously) they look just fine, though the Tenshinhan saga is guilty of having too many episodes on a disc (but atleast it's dual layer).

As for the "bluriness" you mentioned, there really is only one episode with sub par image quality (during the fight with Jackie Chun), and that seems to have something to do with the masters FUNimation was given.

Anyway, I encourage everyone to pick these up, they're one of the few releases put out by FUNimation that isn't a complete fuck up, but if you want to pay more for less footage, less detail and probably less episodes (lets face it Lion's gate are assholes) then I guess it's better to wait for the inevitable season set releases.
I bought the set last summer from Madman. Since I own the DBox, I primarily got it for subtitles, but here is a screen from episode 3 of the release:

How does the quality of this release compare to the Dragonbox quality?

Obviously the Dragon Box footage, which has been remastered in its own way would look better than raw unfiltered grainy images of a show that was done in the 80s.

I know that the Dragonbox looks much, much better, I just wanted to see exactly how much better.

And one more thing, the footage having it's grain is (in most cases) a good thing, since it contains detail. There are a lot of members here who are big sticklers about the importance of grain...and the season sets really back them up

I was considering getting Dragon Box singles, but I figured I may as well just get my favourite episodes and major story lines for now. Like get volume 1 , Tenkaichi Budoukai episodes Uranai Baba's budoukai and the last few volumes. Maybe fill in the spaces later on.

Those look awesome. good job! Well I tried doing one myself by taking one from the Dragonbox release and doing the same treatment on Photoshop. Then I fiddled around with the colours so it would match Season Six and this is what came out, I must say I'm very impressed.

If Funi ever happens to get the rights to the Saga of Goku back, I'm really hoping they don't remaster it. If the flashbacks to Dragonball in the Z sets are any indication, the remastering looks AWFUL on the series (At least moreso than Z). Granted, these flashbacks are part of the Z episode so it's technically a newer master with that, so I can only imagine the actual master they have for Dragonball, which is probably older than any of their Z masters, looking even worse when remastered.

Yeah. From the looks of things, Dragonball wouldn't survive a "re-mastering" process.

If the GT sets are any indication, it's likely FUNi won't be giving anything without Z in the title a widescreen cropping.

Yeah, probably not. If GT's not widescreened, DB likely wouldn't be either. Even if it was, there'd probably be a bit less cropped off than in those example pics.

As for the remastering process... I don't know, we'll have to wait and see GT to really tell if the different shows are getting any different treatment. If FUNi realizes DB is older and in even worse condition, I think they'd be likely to treat it a little more carefully.

I also decided to "remaster" these:

Now FUNi just needs to settle the rights with Lion's Gate, not crop & blurrify the series, and bring on the dang gold.

They could just get the Dragonball DBox masters from Toei as a sign of goodwill.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

I wish Funi would stop "sagaing" Dragon Ball releases.

And I don't think that the film that Funi has could survive a "remastering" process either.

I just want them to re-release the damn episodes.
Be grateful the filler in Dragon Ball doesn't suck like the 3rd arc of Rurouni Kenshin.
