I crunched the numbers, and I actually managed to get hold of all of the 4:3 Z singles for just under what I would have paid for the season sets (they 'aint cheap here though), if the season sets were my only option, I just wouldn't have bothered, I'm a student so I'm as poor as poor gets, so I really can't justify spending what little money I have, on a product that depresses me.

Wasn't it confirmed a while ago that the GT trailer was at least in fullscreen? I think "even" FUNi knows better than to advertise it as such but produce the actual set in widescreen.

I don't particularly care, and will still buy it either way. But I thought that fear had already been put to rest. :/

I don't think it really confirms it, for example, the DBGT "Lost Episodes" trailer as put out by FUNimation, was in 16:9, despite the release itself being 4:3.

I don't think aspect ratios in trailers are concrete evidence of the format of the product itself, especially when we're dealing with FUNimation.

Hey, I took a screencap from the DBGT Season One Trailer on the new One Piece-DVD...
Image
Could anyone get a comparison with the Dragonbox or the old FUNi-singles for that? I guess it would be kinda hard, being that I haven't got a clue which episode it's from, but if someone was able to do that, it'd be nice. Because that looks suspiciously much like Dragonbox-footage to me... (OH THE IRONY!)

I saw that trailer on Disc 3 of my Season Six set. It looks decent, but I wouldn't get my hopes up on it being Dragonbox footage.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

I believe that pic is from the last episode of Dragon Ball GT: Affliction (the first GT DVD). I would take a screencap, but I have it on Uncut VHS, not DVD :(
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Recall, guys, that the season sets are STILL using 4:3 screencaps on their boxes. So this could just be more lies.
[quote="Brakus"]For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". Aren't they just horizontally cropped Season Set footage though?

It actually might be the Dragon Box footage, I took a screenshot from my GT: Affliction DVD. The image a few posts up, looks a hell of a lot sharper and cleaner colors. Also, this image seems to be a lot blurrier compared to the other one.

The comparison image:

Episode 19 (3 on the old FUNimation numbering), from the FUNimation GT Single.

When I looked at Season 6's box at the store, the shots looked like they were from the old singles; but I'm not the best judge.
edit- SSJ4, what deinterlace method are you using?

I haven't watched it in about 2 years :)

They are, but chalk it up to Funi being lazy.

After all, the trailers for the show are in 16:9, so they wouldn't straight-up lie about the aspect ratio.

Either that, or they got some new masters. From the looks of things, it is the exact same frame, but more detailed. If it was Dragon Box footage, wouldn't there be more footage? Either way, it looks almost dead on like the Dragon Boxes and that is a great thing.

You can see a little bit more of Goku's hair. Not really noticeable, though.

GT's masters were distributed, least in FUNi's case, via digibeta tapes. While FUNi created their own zoomed-in ones for dragonball and Z, GT was given to them by TOEi that way.

Also, defiintely slightly off on the frames. Note Goku's left shoulder.

Whoops, didn't even notice the shoulder; whatever, not that big of a deal. It would be awesome if FUNimation were given new masters though.

Furanki, once again, what are you using to take screencaps/deinterlace the image? I know that blend occasionally takes away the detail.

Media Player Classic is what I used to take the image. I could try another program, see if I get a different result.
