*hopes Vampire-piccolo we've seen is the old man*
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Every time James talks about the movie, my hope for the movie goes up. Its like we get awful mews about the movie, and then James makes them look not so bad after all.
So i assume that the "albino" Piccolo is the Older version, and when he regains his youth thanks to the Dragonballs, he'll be green.
I like how he describes the movie as a "world in between Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z"
Also, can't wait to see a good flying battle between Goku and Piccolo, because if there is going to be "lots of flying" then hopefully we will get one.
And finally, I'm always glad when James Masters talks about the show, he really knows about it, and its obvious he is a fan.

Maybe we should compare this with old dead plants. They go yellowish when they die (or... get older) and when they're young and healthy they're green! Also wasn't the Namekian race based on plants anyway?fogdark wrote:So i assume that the "albino" Piccolo is the Older version, and when he regains his youth thanks to the Dragonballs, he'll be green.
Maybe THAT'S why?
I think this is the last best theory for albino Piccolo. Oh how I hope it's true.Bura wrote:Maybe we should compare this with old dead plants. I have thought about it too, i mean the Nameks are very similar to plants with only needing water to survive, for me it would make perfect senseBura wrote:Maybe we should compare this with old dead plants. Or they're like most living creatures that suffer from jaundice when they age... like people?Bura wrote:Maybe we should compare this with old dead plants. I believe they’re based on slugs. Hence: Lord Slugg, antennae, regeneration, single sex, etc. Some slugs do change color as they get older, so there is potential support for this theory. But who knows if movie Pic will even follow the slug model anyway.Bura wrote:Maybe we should compare this with old dead plants. I think people just take the "only drink water" thing, the green skin, and the asexual reproduction to mean plant. It's an easy mistake, I suppose.Captain Awesome wrote:It seems to be a FUNimation dub thing.
I see dub fans saying it all the time, does it actually say anything that would lead the viewer to believe the whole Namekian plant thing?
To show my appreciation, I'll only beat them half to death.
Plus, "Nail" and "Cargo" are only snail puns if you're looking for snail puns. Otherwise, they're the thing you whack with a hammer and a large mass of boxes loaded on a ship.Onikage725 wrote:I think people just take the "only drink water" thing, the green skin, and the asexual reproduction to mean plant. And nobody knows what the hell a "dende" is supposed to be.

Well, their species' name is taken from the word slug (Namekuji). Dende comes from dendenmushi, which is either a word for snail or a specific type of snail (I'm not sure which). The only one I don't get is Moori. To my knowledge that's a type of fish that eats snails. And then you have Lord Slug, which is a freebie on figuring out the pun. Piccolo doesn't fit, but that's because his naming scheme was on earth instruments (before the retcon, where apparently a word for flute will open a Namek ship).Rocketman wrote: Plus, "Nail" and "Cargo" are only snail puns if you're looking for snail puns. I think its because Dende says (in the dub) that "Namekians are grown from those plants you saw outside", or something to that effect. That isn't in the original?Captain Awesome wrote:It seems to be a FUNimation dub thing.

Well, yes, but I meant to US viewers. AFAIK, none of the Namekian names were changed, it's just that the puns are either completely missed or thought of as a different pun. Which is part of the reason we don't make the "Namekians = slugs" connection.Onikage725 wrote:Well, their species' name is taken from the word slug (Namekuji).
