Menza only had one or two tunes that played in GT...the same "DUN DUN DON DEM, DUN DUN DOM DEN" played ALL the time, it drove me to the point of wanting to rip my ears off.
Faulconer has at least 250 different songs for DBZ, so you hear something new every episode, and for the most part, are completely varied in there style.

Don't even waste your time man. They'll NEVER admit that Faulconer is better than Menza. To them it's just all the same. I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

It's pure opinion either way. But put a person who has never heard of DBZ/GT in a room, and play both scores. Doubt they will tell the difference.Chrono Trigger wrote:Don't even waste your time man. The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Yeah but there really is a difference between Faulconer and Menza. You don't hear of ANYONE defending Menza do you ? There has to be a reason why people prefer Faulconer to Menza.

Falcuoner did music for DBZ. Menza did music for GT, which is already disliked to start with. I think Menza gets a lot of hate because Falcouner didn't score GT.Chrono Trigger wrote:Yeah but there really is a difference between Faulconer and Menza. You hear of ANYONE defending Menza do you ? But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

Menza gets a lot of hate because he sucks. His style of music is just boring. There is no variation in his music at all. Faulconer gave characters their own distinct themes and every scene made you understand the different situations. Like the various Majin Themes. Good or Bad it was still some evil sounding music. Menza music is just this mono tone bass sound that NEVER changes. Faulconer is better. That's all I'm saying....AND if you guys hate the dubs SO much then how can you an opinion on it. That's like me saying "I don't like roller coasters." and then I go to six flags and start talking about how dumb the Batman ride is.

GT doesn't have time and characters to devote special themes to. I'm sure he was rushed like Falcouner was. The end result is the terrible and boring GT music.Chrono Trigger wrote:Menza gets a lot of hate because he sucks. His style of music is just boring. There is no variation in his music at all. I watched all of DBZ dubbed except for the Android stuff, and most of GT as well. So I can talk about it because I've seen and listened to it. There is nothing wrong with debate and actual discussion.

So you've seen both and think Faulconer and Menza are just the same. Their interchangeable? Menza could have done the music for Dragon Ball Z and it wouldn't be any different?

Pretty much, and everybody would have loved his score out of "nostalgia". If Falcouner would have scored GT after him, folks would have said he "sucks".Chrono Trigger wrote:So you've seen both and think Faulconer and Menza are just the same. Their interchangeable? I'm sorry if I'm misunderstanding you but are you saying people probably like Faulconer better because of nostalgia ?

Alright. I'm not saying Faulconer is some kind of musical master or anything like that. I know you guys think they both suck and that it doesn't make sense to compare two entities that suck. All I'm saying is between Menza and Faulconer, Menza did the worse job. Compare it to doing chores or at least the idea of doing chores. You have taking out the trash and washing the dishes. As a kid they both suck and are annoying but if you had to choose one or the other to do for a week, which one would you choose ? If you had to choose between getting shot in the foot or stabbed in the foot, which would you choose? That's all I'm saying.

Still, with 64 episodes, you would expect to see some variation.Raki wrote:Falcouner HAD to make different sounding music. He scored episodes 67-291. No way he is going to repeat the same music over and over. Menza score less, so of course he's going to repeat the score he made.

Ok. Now I'm about go WAY outta the box with this one but Cowboy Bebop had 26 episodes and that series has like 6 different soundtracks. Even in the Original version of Dragon Ball they reused tracks over and over again for a certain amount of episodes. 64 episodes is enough time to compose at least a few different variations in themes. Menza never did that. It's all the same monotonous melody. I couldn't tell if something bad ass or evil was go on. It's always just "Dun dun dunna nun nun."
At least with DBZ you could tell the emotion in a scene based on the music.

The whole purpose of Cowboy Bebop is to mix jazz with space bounty hunters. So of course it wil have different soundtracks. On the original score, yes they could have used different music. But it's more cost effective not to, but it's not like they didn't have music to spare. Chalk that up to Toei and their cheapness.Chrono Trigger wrote:Ok.
