Well I just don't buy into that "Menza didn't have enough time." angle. Right of the bat in Season 3, Faulconer had like 10 different themes in the first few episodes. With Mark Menza just listen to that song that plays during the eye catch "commercial thingy". That's the WHOLE GT soundtrack for the english version. Dun dun dunna nun nun. That's it! Faulconer had the Spirit Bomb theme, The Dragon's Theme, Vegeta's Theme, Flash Back theme's, Outro and Intro theme's, and all Menza had for SIXTY FOUR episodes is that same DUN DUNNA NUN NUN shit. That's all I'm saying...and for you and Kunzait to sit up and here and say "Oh they both sound the same." is BULL. Menza even did the music for the movies! Since movie 5 it was all Menza and he ruined them all with his boring ass music!
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

There. Right there, you hit the nail on the head. Thats exactly what people have been trying to say. We're not disputing how good or bad Faulconer is or anything, thats a whole other thing that nobody really wants to get into. But the two reasons I underlined above, those are basically the differences between Faulconer and Menza, and why people prefer Faulconer.Kunzait_83 wrote:It may be more “varied” and less monotonous than Menza
Edit: Also, I'm not really buying into this nostalgia thing. The dub isn't even that old.

When you consider the ages of many dub fans, it is rather old. I'm not going to lie, I've been watching Dragon Ball Z since 1998. I was around 9 then. The fact that it's been almost ten years since Funimation decided to dub DBZ entirely in-house should constitute something.Kid Trunks wrote:There. Right there, you hit the nail on the head. Though Kunzait almost hit the nail on the head, it's different for me. Because I started watching when the Saban dub was the only one we had, the first score I heard was Shuki Levy's. Even then I really wasn't very fond of it. It mainly kind of just sat in the background for me. When August or September 1999 came around and Season 3 came on and I heard the Faucloner music, I really, really liked it. Granted, I was 10 years old, and I'm not going to lie that most of the reason I love the music is because of that nostalgia, but I did really like it, despite it being the second score of DBZ I heard.
And then I finally saw the Pioneer dubs of DBZ Movies 1, 2, and 3. But that's a different story.
Either way, Menza's music is pretty much one of two reasons I didn't watch the GT dub. I was so excited for GT getting an English dub after Funi's very good Dragon Ball dub, with its original music kept (minus the majority of insert songs) and more accurate script than Z. I guess I was just taking that for granted when waiting for the GT dub. Hell I have the complete series on DVD and I don't think I've watched the dub for longer than ten minutes.
I might sell my four box sets of GT when the 16:9 set comes out, as I'd really like to hear the dub with the original music intact.
That's good to hear, I suppose. Going back and forth on this, though, are we? What's NYAF? A New York City convention, I presume?

I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

So will I. If only because I want to have the entire series, and because I'd want to support a GOOD release, which this set seems to be. (Unless they don't have all the openings and endings, or they cut out the japanese eyecatchers, but I'll just hope that, if they were smart enough to release the episodes in the right order, and in 4:3, they'll hopefully leave those in too.)Raki wrote:I will be buying this.Vegard Aune wrote:This just in from NYAF:

So there it is. FUNi finally did something right.

Seeing how FUNi themselves specifically said it, I'd assume it's true.SonEric84 wrote:I really hope it's true that it will NOT be wide screen. GT is the only part of the series that I don't own completely (I have the second box set of the original release), so I'm hoping I can get these and not have to be deprived of the full picture.
JAPPO: So, because Z was butchered, you're complaining that GT is not gonna be butchered as well? Riiiiiiiiiight. We're getting one of the series hopefully done right, let's just be happy that this is the case, rather than saying "It's inconsistent with the butchered Z-release!".

Probably due to the insane amount of releases they have from now to November. Funi is quite busy with their own stuff, Geneon distribution, and the Sojitz/ADV title re-releases.SSJ4 Furanki wrote:Huh, so I ended up being right about that link on page 25.
Well anyways, this just seems to prove that FUNimation will continue giving GT a way better treatment then Z. I actually like GT so, this is a plus for me.
Also one question, why did FUNimation change the release from September 16th?
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.
For the music, why are people bringing up that nostalgia ullshit again? I thought it was well-established that some people just LIKE THE MUSIC.

Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!
