Who are your Favorite DBZ Movie/TV Special henchmen and why?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Who are your Favorite DBZ Movie/TV Special henchmen and why?

Post by Toprahman001 » Sat Sep 27, 2008 12:15 pm

Hey Everyone! I finally decided to join the Daizex message board after lurking on the board for about 2 years and listening to most of the podcasts, so I know most of the rules of the board and how it goes. I gotta say I'm always impressed with how in-depth the discussions are on the board and how thoughtful people are with messages here, it really IS the best db site ever! It amazes me the great analysis and insight almost everyone brings to the discussions here, with good spelling and well-thought out posts!

Anyways... I was curious what everyone's favorite DBZ Movie henchmen were and why! In my opinion, the henchmen from the movies are and why. Sometimes the henchmen are just as/more interesting than the main villain in the movie to me. I always loved how the henchmen had cool character designs and attacks, even though you knew they would killed in the next 5 to 50 minutes after you saw them! So here is my list off the top of my head:

1. Dorodabo and Metamatcha (small toad with those little clones he grew) from Movie 4: Even though I like Movie 4 the LEAST out of all 13 because it is very redundant with wishing for youth and then Slugg, I really liked how the henchmen were introduced and then dispatched within 8 minutes or so! Dorodabo (that monster with wings) was a terrible match against Piccolo getting his hand and then arm broken, but I think we NEVER see a villain boast then be reduced to bargaining with one of the Z fighters so quickly EVER! Usually it takes a pretty significant beating before it reaches that point. His death was the about the high-point of the movie for me when Piccolo just blows his head off. Metamatcha had an annoying voice, but that sequence when Goku just destroys him with one punch and then fires that Ki blast at (Angira? I think) and it goes down his mouth was great! I don't remember hearing that BGM any other time!

2. ALL of Bojack's crew from Movie 9: The designs for the characters were fantastic, and they all had significant screen time and lasted longer than most of the other movie henchmen. What also made them interesting for me was that they were an even-match for most of the heroes in the movie, at least until Gohan went SSJ2 and cut a couple of them in half! It was getting a little boring seeing the main heroes one-shot kill or not try very hard with the henchmen in the earlier movies. All of them also had unique attacks too, rather then regular generic ki blasts. The only thing I never understood was how Zangya became the most well-represented of all of Bojack's henchmen, I remember when Super Botuden 2 came out for the SNES and I thought it was so random that she was there!

3. Ginger, Nicky, and Sansho from Movie 1: I really liked the well-choreagraphed fights they had with Piccolo and Goku, and I'd say that was only due to the late DB/early DBZ period but the characters themselves. It was great to see that even though they beefed-up to a more powerful version, Goku still beat them 3-to-1. Their introduction was great too, and at least for them they got the jump on Piccolo at the beginning of the movie. At least until Piccolo just destroyed Sansho one-on-one.

So I'd like to hear everyone else's thoughts on the matter, I don't think I ever saw this discussion in the Index! I'm glad I finally joined this board too, good to be here!

Bardock TV special: For some reason I think Tora is pretty cool. I liked that blue fire attack that he used on planet Kanassa.

The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Trunks TV special: Mirai Gohan was pretty good as well. Too bad he had to get killed.
Those... aren't henchmen. Toma is kinda close, but not really.

Anyway... Zangya... Mmmm...

Sauza is by far my favorite henchman, and from what I understand, he is also pretty popular in Japan for some reason. I just love his personality and character design. I probably started liking him because of his dub voice, which made him sound so condescending.

Salza- Mainly because he reminds me of an alien "General Blue". He has a ton of back history with Jheese which adds some depth to his character. Not to mention the Salza blade is kick ass and one of my favorite attacks.

Cooler's Guard Robots- I always found it interesting that a few robots were tough enough to tango with the Z fighters up until they found an exploit in their design, plus they had a few cool weapons up their sleeves.
Aro started to laugh. “Ha, ha, ha,” he chuckled.- Actual quote from Twilight

And then Piccolo blew them ALL up, along with half the landscape.

That movie has to have some of Pic's best moments.

I think that's because there aren't as many strong female fighters in DBZ, so putting her in games with Videl, #18, Pan, (sometimes Chi-Chi), helps balance the ratio out a bit more. Also the fact that she's one of the few female henchman ever created in the series would also make her stand out more.

Jerseymilk- good point, the male-female ratio in DBZ is seriously skewed and there are less than 10 female fighters in the whole series. Zangya in there did balance out the testosterone levels a bit. I just thought it was bizarre that in a game with only 10 playable characters, they would bypass the human fighters for someone in a movie. The story mode was pretty awesome though, so Zangya was nice in there!

I totally forgot the Salza/Jeice connection! That does make him more interesting since he can somehow be tied into the main story.

Live action Sauza -

Pshaw!

If I really had to pick a favourite group of henchmen out of all the films; I'd say Bojack's henchmen were the most interesting.

But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

Wait. Did I miss something? I don't remember any connection between these two. Can someone clear this up for me?
Gohan: At least he doesn't have his sword out anymore.
Kuririn: Yeah, and your dad put his finger away too.

Well, according to Herms' 'Cooler's Henchmen Info. Thread' (http://db.schuby.org/daizex/viewtopic.php?t=7252)
Sauza and Jeice are from the same star system....also it seems that he has more history with Ginyu (vying for the captaincy of the presumably later-named Ginyu Tokusentai) than Jeice, outside place of origin.

My favourite henchmen- Bojack's, Turles' and Cooler's.

In no real order
1 Bojacks crew
2 Salsa and the guy with the retractable head.
3 Ginger, Nicky, and Sansho.

Dodoria's henchmen (specifically Dodoria's lieutenant) from the Bardock Special. Their fight with Bardock was my favorite part of the movie.

I also like Sauzer because he reminds me of a cross between Zarbon and Jeice.

Bojack's henchmen.

1) Dodoria's brother/cousin, Doradabo, from Movie #4 was my favorite. Everytime he says somethin, it ends with "dabo" if you listen enough.

2) Saiza, like everyone else.

3) That robot guy from Tullece's group.

The bottom pic is of Bardock himself, not Toma.

Nice shot of Nicky/Nikki though. I forgot to mention that I also really dig his "crazy eyed" look.
