Technically it wasn't "originally" an OVA... but the argument starts to fall apart since it WAS released on home video :P. It's not an "Original Video Animation" in the sense that it was not originally animated for home video release.

It happened to GET a home video release (first on two VHS volumes, and later as an extra on the 2nd DBZ "Dragon Box"), but it's not how the footage was originally created. And even then it's not all the footage; the footage in the home releases is just the "correct" path (kinda like the "100% full awesome ending" thing RPGs do).

Do you think we'll ever get a DVD release of it, EX? I know the plot's supposed to suck but for completion's sake I'd like to own it.

I really doubt it. I think there's just waaaaay too many sub-licenses tied to it over in Japan. It's not just some video footage; it's video footage tied to a video game. That means there's the animation company, the video game distribution company, the video game development company, a totally different set of musical composers, etc. etc. etc.

Then again, FUNimation will be dying for more, actual DBZ to market once the movies are done; it's been their flagship property, and with DB and GT hardly getting the response from their target audience... it wouldn't surprise me TOO much...

It'd be an interesting release if they could though: "The Dragonball Z choose your own adventure movies!" You could use the menu arrows on the DVD remotes to choose each outcome. I wouldn't be too surprised if FUNi released them after EVERYTHING else DB/Z/GT has been released on DVD.

It would be very easy (well, comparatively speaking) to do that sort of thing with DVD video technology; it's a simple branching menu / video stream. That would be neat, actually... ^^;; No need for the PlayDia, at all!

It just really pisses me off when people are convinced its a movie when its obviously not. Sure it was released on VHS, but does that mean its a movie/OVA?

It would be like the not so recent Dragon's Lair re-release :)

It may not be an OVA, but it's still a movie. Anything on VHS is a movie, regardless of the source :P

Actually, I believe in technical terms, for something to be called a "movie" it must exceed 62 minutes in total length (which is why all the DBZ "movies" are actually labelled as "features" on the front).

Or something like that.

Yeah, you know... destory. The Tsufuru were never in Toriyama's writing, so Toei is kinda destorying his original writing by adding and subtracting things from it.

...

God, that was awful. Forget it :P.

Yeah, he's implying what the changes will be for the US version. The villain will be made into a mad storyteller who wishes to kill off the remaining Saiyans so that their brutal, destructive story will not be told again...thereby DESTORYING THE SAIYANS!

...or it could be a typo, whatever

All that from an "honest" typo?

But hey, "Destory" works I guess? The kids who cant read will NEVER know!

Better tell that to Japan, Mike. A good chunk of anime movies range from 30 to 45 minutes. :P

But they wouldn't call them "movies", would they?

What a bunch of uber-noobers. People need to get their heads out of their butts and take a breath of air once in a while.
Battle High 2, starring Kyle Hebert as well as myself, has been released on Xbox 360, OUYA, PC, Linux, Mac, and Xbox One!
