Theory on TVY7 vs. TVG

Post by Super Sonic » Mon Aug 30, 2004 9:40 pm

I don't know if anyone else thought of this but a theory I have is that if DB/DBZ were rated TVG instead of TVY7, they could get away with a little less censorship. For example, you know how Doc Briefs always has that cig of his painted away even though he never lights it up? Well Popeye always has his pipe in his mouth and they never censored it. I think that if a show is rated TVG like Popeye and Looney Tunes, it can get away with things like smoking and alcohol usage. And let's face it, those are strictly taboo on Toonami's Y7 schedule. Any thoughts?

Isn't it more to do with cigarettes vs pipes? I don't know what rating THe Powerpuff Girls is, but Prof Utonium often has a pipe in his mouth on that show.

Also, Popeye (maybe) and Loony Tunes (definitely) can get away with more due to them being "classics". People are less likely to complain, and so they get away with more (although many Loony Tune cartoons have been edited in recent years).

Canada's ratings are so much easier: G, PG, PG-13, R. The censors are too lazy to spend time categorizing stuff so they always lump the shows in those four. :P

It's not so much the pipe or cigarette, it's the smoke. Apparently it's ok to show someone with a pipe or cig in their mouth so long as there's no smoke.

Or if it serves as an obligatory message. I say that since they still rerun that episode of Captain Planet where the Russian girl gets hooked on drugs and they show her cousin O'D.

Also, is this some Canadian definition of "lucky"? One which means "horribly horribly god-must-hate-you unlucky"?

Actually, it's:

"Gonna help him put asunder | Bad guys who like to...loot 'n' plunder".

Still terrible, though,

That was during the last season I believe. Some people need to know that rapping something doesn't always make it cool.

You should've seen me in Wal-Mart the day I first heard that song. I was nearly in tears and had a reaction simliar to one who's suffering the apocalypse.

I've done worse.

But seriously, it wasn't that bad, but I was upset.

Seppuku is the only option upon hearing that.

Yeah, it's Seppuku.

We must be the only two who are having this problem...
