Is Goku just a dumb jerk?

I always felt kind of bad for Chichi and Gohan. Not only was Goku not a very good provider and always disappeared off to do whatever (okay, so the dying parts weren't exactly his fault), but he never even acted like there was anything wrong with it. If I was Chichi that would drive me crazy.

On the plus side, he didn't train Gohan in secret when she said she didn't want him trained. At least he was always honest with them.

Not letting the others wish him back to life after the Cell Games was probably the worst thing he's done.

Right after he got ChiChi pregnant too, dick move.

The real answer is that Kakarrot blasted off in his pants when he found out that he would fight uber strong guys in Other World. Then after 7 years pass and he had beat everyone there he decides to use his one day to go home to his family. No, instead, he wants to go fight in the Tenka-ichi Budôkai on earth, his family just happens to be there, and did he feel bad that he left Chi-Chi pregnant and alone 7 years prior. The answer is no.

Maybe Saiyans by nature are less maternal/paternal than humans - after all they send their child off to another planet and carry on with fighting...

Bardock couldn't give two shits about his own son until he was foretold he would be the one to take out Freeza.

That was the old Saiyans but we are talking Kakarrot. Look at Vegeta during the second fight with Kakarrot. Kakarrot said that Vegeta loved Trunks and Bulma and he did not deny it. He even hugged and apologized to Trunks, and made sure that he was taken care by Piccolo before ge gave up the ghost. In Dragonball GT, he seemed very protective of Bra. I believe that the lack of maternal or paternal instincts was a learned behavior of the Saiyans.

They have NO CLUE where New Namek is. And Goku was the ONLY one who COULD do that, because he was the only one with the instant transmission ability.

And GOKU couldn't do that either. In the Buu saga, the Kaioshin was the only one capable of finding the new planet.

There's nothing to suggest it's not in Shen Long's power to transport them there.

Go there, get the Balls, (yeah, I'm sure the Namek's won't help the group that did their best to save them and then housed them [note: I'm not actually sure.]) Polunga grants three wishes. One to bring Goku back, one of the two Shen Long wishes that had gotten the bump in order to allow everyone to go to New Namek in the first place and one to bring everyone home from their trip.

Anyway it's not the point, because Goku flat out states "LOL no, being dead is cool."

He knew his friends and family were going to be there, that was his reason for coming in the first place. He didn't just randomly decide to drop by to fight sub-Satan level fighters.

Shenlong probably couldn't send them there.

Also, Shenlong can't go beyond Kami's power. It's kind of been shown that locating things on galactic and universe-wide scales is of the Kaio-rank power, and is a bit above Kami's abilities.
