What do you make of this? Do you think we’ll see any major changes?Kotaku wrote:Crummy-Looking Dragonball Movie Getting Reshoots
That Dragonball movie trailer didn't exactly set the world aflame. The frosty reaction that the trailer got might have caused FOX movie execs to order reshoots, and the filmmakers are looking for folks between 20-70 that are fluent in Nepalese or Tibetan. The reshoots start October 30th in Los Angeles. Though, this reshoots just might be pickup footage or insert footage and not remaking the bad. Who knows. FOX does, that's who. (But for goodness sake, some please tell these Hollywood people that Piccolo should be green.)

Dragonball Movie to Do Reshoots
For those of you that haven’t heard yet:
Apparently, little reshoots like this happen quite often, usually to fix mistakes or make little additions. I'm not really worried.
In fact, the Nepalese or Tibetan language bit is interesting. Part of me is hoping it's to film a scene at some far-off monastery, perhaps named "Orin Temple?"

I dunno. I thought the Kame uniform was a rather nice adaption. Take the old and familiar standard and mix it up a little so that its fresh and new, but still easily recognizable as the Kame uniform. So far I feel that a lot of other things and characters in the film are missing that familiarity in their re-imaginings, but the Kame uniform is one of the things I really do genuinely like.
Gah! If only they needed teenagers who knew about the series THEN I'd be ready for a quick appearance! ...*Scours the internet for reshoot site so he can protest*
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
That's so what I'm looking forward to. Here's to hoping they'll make a movie in which Goku kicks Chatwin's ass.Kendamu wrote:Well, when the American version of Godzilla flopped, in Japan they replied with Godzilla 2000. Terrible adaption or not you can't hate on the actors. They're just trying to make a living and I bet they would have liked a closer adaption just as much as we would have.MisterFlashDude wrote:That's so what I'm looking forward to. I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

Oh! I never thought about it like that. My bad. Anyway to keep things on topic I really doubt they're re-shooting anything major. Probably just some minor stuff that nobody would ever notice.

Personally, I can't wait until the sequel. Fox obviously rushed the filming on this one and so I think it will turn out like X-Men 1. A good adaptation, but nothing amazing. Then the sequel will hopefully be like X-Men 2, which is my favorite comic book movie so far.
If challenge had a taste, you'd be quite delicious.
I'd say the same thing, but with the Spider-Man movies instead.JAPPO wrote:Personally, I can't wait until the sequel. I don't understand why people are looking forward to this movie.
1) Goku goes to high school
2) Nimbus is a yellow sports car
3) Roshi is a serious martial arts teacher
4) It looks like Mortal Kombat status
5) What the hell is Mai doing in there with no Shu or Pilaf...and with Piccolo?
6) Goku's in high school!
I mean...really. Really. People get so hot at FUNimation for changing around scripts, and people get into heated arguments over canon vs filler... And yet, to a movie that follows absolutely ZERO from the story, people are excited? I mean the costumes themselves look like they were made out of construction paper. Goku's hair looks ridiculous. It looks like a group of teenagers got together, made a movie, then decided to call it Dragon Ball. Why not just change the title, change the names of the characters, and change the names of the Dragon Balls themselves and make an original movie since that's what they're going to do anyway? This movie looks terrible. And the sequel? People already talking about the sequel? Who even knows if they'll let them do a sequel after this bombs. It has to bomb. There is no way it could do well. Unless people just want to see how bad it is. Dragon Ball was never meant to be a movie. Even if we move aside from the hair and all that, it simply was not meant to be a movie! There is entirely way too much in the story for it to be a 2 hour movie. Even ten movies wouldn't nail down the Dragon Ball story itself! This is just a cheap way to try to make money. If this movie does well, then I'm writing my own Superman movie. Here's the synopsis:
"Mars is in turmoil! Aliens have come to Mars and are killing all the inhabitants. Mars' president Jor-El sent his only infant son, Kal-El to Earth to escape Mars' bleak fate. Found by an old widow, the child was taken to an orphanage where he was renamed Clark Kent. As Clark gets older, he realizes that he can do things that nobody else can do. For one thing, he can fly! Faster than a speedy hollow-tip! More powerful than a 747! Able to leap over the Eiffel tower in a single jump! Now the child grows up to be a man and is bound for the big city! Los Angeles is about to get a hero that it will never forget! However, not everything is as it seems. Despite finding his wife, Lois, a fast-talking single mother who can find herself into any jam because of her risky job in the CIA, Superman has to tangle with the mayor, Lex Luthor. Luthor has made contacts with the aliens that destroyed Mars and got them to come to Earth to try to defeat Superman. However, Luthor realizes the grave errors in this. Now Luthor and Superman must work together, not only for themselves, not only for their wives, not only for Los Angeles, but for the entire world! You will not believe this amazing story as it unfolds, more true than any comic book could explain it. Superman: The Man of Steel! Coming soon!"
And yet... In some crazy way, that was multiple times more true to the original than the Dragon Ball movie.

Agreed. It's no more accurate a Dragon Ball movie than if you paid to watch me paint my testicles orange with red stars. But a lot less fun than watching me do that, for sure.TheGreatness25 wrote:I mean...really. Really. And make no mistake about it, regardless of quality, this movie will bomb hard. No-one who's not a Dragon Ball nut will bother with it. The Dragon Ball community that would watch it is small enough to not matter (and even if 100% of us went, it still wouldn't turn a profit). There will be no sequel.

Some want to see how bad it will be. Or some want to see how it's re-imagined. After all, though granted 95% of this board wasn't born yet, haven't heard complaints about Toei's Spider-Man, and how they changed things. And sometimes staying true doesn't always mean greatness. Look at Annihilation. Was very true to Ultimate MK3 give or take a few things, but not a great movie, though its theme song was pretty badass. Also remember a year ago many were complaining about an Australian pretty boy being cast as one the greatest comic book villains.
