Dragonball Movie up against Hannah Montana Movie
As you can see here at http://disneychannelmediaworld.blogspot.com/ The Hannah Montana movie will be coming out April 10, 2009 also.
"The movie was originally set for May 1, 2009, but according to MTV News, Disney has pushed the release to April 10, 2009.
Now the movie is in competition with the Japanese anime mega-hit Dragonball movie, which will be release on the 10th as well. The movie was formally set to be up against X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which is destined to be a hit at the box office.
But, we still have our doubts on if the Hannah movie will still take the #1 slot at the box office."
I checked foxmovies.com and they have Dragonball listed for April 10. In my opinion I don't see dragonball being number one at the box office. What do you guys think.

TOTALLY different demographics means little to no competition.piccolo-san785 wrote:I checked foxmovies.com and they have Dragonball listed for April 10. In my opinion I don't see dragonball being number one at the box office. What do you guys think.
It may actually work in both movies' favors. The older brother has to drive his sister to meet her friends to see Britney Spears Mark II: The Movie, but obviously he'd rather rip out his own intestines with a fork than see it along with her. So hey, he'll go see DragonBall instead. And maybe vice-versa with an older sister and younger brother.
Also, I agree with Chuquita. Alright, DragonBall, let's show Disney's latest pop-skank-in-training what REAL franchise staying power is!

Hey hey, a couple bad eggs doesn't curse the whole chicken coop. Have we forgotten Wall-E already? What about the upcoming and promising The Princess and the Frog?LeprikanGT wrote:The Hannah Montana movie?
its like disney has completely forgotten it used to put out good shows and movies
R.I.P. classic Disney awesomeness.
It's pretty much just anything that shows up on or is spawned from the Disney Channel nowadays is what's the problem (anything that isn't related to The Emperor's New Groove, anyway
Waaaaaaay ahead of you. 'Cept in my head it's a Spirit Bomb. Show her who the world really loves and supports, Goku!Captain Awesome wrote:If I wasn't so lazy I'd photoshop an image of Hannah Montana getting a Kamehameha to the face.
I hope everyone will make do with a mental image.

I remember when I went to see X-men 2, I was first in line, of a gigantic line opening day of people waiting to get in, some black chick walks by and asks the ticket taker, "What movie are these people seeing, Malibu's most Wanted?" And the Ticket Taker said. "No all these people are here to see X-Men 2." The Black girl then says "X-Men, who the fuck would want to see that!" Ignoring the fact that there was a line of over 100 people standing right there.

Should we get toghether a team of fanshippers and cosplayers to make it seem that the movie is popular? Can't we stack the deck like they do in elctions with voter fraud? Get some people to go to the movie without knowing what it is or having no idea what Dragonball is?Raki wrote:Hannah Montana is going to wipe the floor with Dragonball's lifeless body. With that being said, I still want to see the movie.
We have to beat Hannah Montana for all that is right in the world!

Unfortunately, the completely different demographics is exactly what may be a problem.
Because Dragonball is having such a crappy buzz around it, even fanboys may not go and see it. The demographic that Dragonball is appealing to are the types that go to see movies based off of hype.
Hanna Montana, on the other hand is a completely different story. HM's demographic tends to see a movie based only on it's brand name "OMG its Miley CYRUS!"
FOr Hanna Montana's last film "Hanna Montana/ Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Tour", the movie took in a STAGGERING $31.1 million in its first weekend ALONE! And that was across only 683 screens.
So....even though Dragonball and Hanna Montana will not be sharing demographics, it is totally possible that Dragonball could miss number one. Although apparently ratings on the Hanna Montana TV show have been down this season so...well, I guess that leaves us where we were. It's a coin toss if you ask me. But if I had to pick a side, I'd say Dragonball will beat HM by just a little

Girls see Hannah Montana, and boys see DragonBall. That's all I really meant. And DragonBall's "crappy buzz" doesn't go much farther than obsessive internet-type people, really. It won't effect more general audiences.

I'll agree on defending Disney vs the Disney Channel- with Lasseter in charge now, the movies should be getting respectable again. lasseter let the last of the crappy sequals that were already in production finish up- Ariel's beginening was the last of those and by god that horror of Eisner's should eb over now. I'm awaiting the Frog Princess with great hopes for the future of the industry.

Pretty sure he was referring to that 6-14 year old girl demographic. You're on a whole other level, Vely, as you're in your early-mid 20s and have been a fan of DBZ for years. Did I mention you're very cool too? So yeah, this is a case of apples and oranges, in a manner of speaking.Velasa wrote:Oh really.
