As my favorite Dragonball Z movies are the first two, I'd have to say that I like original villains more.

I would have to say the originals…but that doesn’t mean I wish the tie-ins hadn’t been created and originals had been used instead. I think that Toei did a pretty good job of giving us the right amount of completely new villains and giving us some that we could compare to others from the series.

Probably the Original's.

Originals.

As fun as Turles and Brolli are, Dr. Wheelo and Garlic Jr were way more creative. Garlic Jr always reminded me of a genuinely evil version of Pilaf--only he actually succeeds in getting his wish.
On hiatus.

I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

I find the originals more entertaining, but some of the tie-ins are cool too.

Wait... Am I the only one that thought Janemba was an allusion to Majin Buu?

Or am I just retarded?
---

It's hard to say for me. My favorite movies are 1 and 6, which is an original villain and a spin-off villain. At the same time though, I think the Brolly movies are horrifically boring.

For the most part, I think Toei did a good job of making their rip-off villains relatively interesting... But I think I became a Coola fanboy whilst writing this post, so... Yeah.

I always thought that too. He starts out as a fat happy monster who just wants to have fun but later transforms into a slimmer, angry monster that just wants to destroy things.

A lot of the movie villains are similar to the series ones, either in appearance, abilities, or the way the battles play out.

Wheelo and Tullece were like Vegeta. Slug was like Piccolo. Cooler was like Freeza. The Androids were like... the Androids. Broly and Bojack were like Cell. Bio-Broly was like the gelatinous monster from Muscle Tower. Janemba was like Buu. Hildegarn was like Spiney Norman. Etc, etc...

Slug was overly Piccolo, right down to wishing himself younger and growing. I don't mind the other tie in villains really, but Slug was really unimaginative in my opinion.

The thing that annoyed me most about Slugg was that I wasn't apparently wasn't supposed to get he was a Namekian before he took off his headgear.

Overall I prefer the original villains, I guess, even if I dislike Garlic Jr. since his yawnsome filler appearance in DBZ. I do like Movie 3 though, one of the few to incorporate the human Z Fighters in any real fashion.

Isn't Garlic Jr. practically a threatening Pilaf mixed with King Piccolo?

And Janemba is basically Buu.

I think your just retarded. Just kidding lol. I also have that allusion since he is fat and happy at first and then turns into very evil creature who wants to destroy things.

Favorite movie!

To me it's the epitome of what DBZ was at it's greatest -

-Goku is a total badass, but not a Super Saiyan
-Yamcha, Tien, and Kuririn are still relevant
-The movie just had a "more realistic" vibe to it in general

Heh, movie 3 usually puts me to sleep, literally. The two movie 2s are my favorite.

For some reason, the creativeness of movie2 isn't enough to make me like Wheelo all that much. I guess the fact that he spent the whole movie being stuck as a brain needing a body, and then at the end "Oh, wait, I can actually fight, anyway!" kinda blew it... :(.

Egh... I don't care about Bojak, don't have an opinion on Janemba, want to forget Broli so that if he actually appears in anything new it might be interesting, and am unsure about Cooler...
Tullece, Hi(ru?)degarn and Garlic Jr seem to take the cake for me. So I guess originals win. XD

[edit] Oh, wait. I think one of the things that got me into Tullece is coming across the way Daizex refers to him... like... Turles ... Meh. But all of a sudden a double l and a final ce... He suddenly sounds like an actual character. (Yeah, it doesn't make much sense. XD ). [/edit]

That also happens to me :s

As for the discussion, well, the original poster meant original characters with no tie-in in the universe of the series, he didn't meant totally original characters that make no allusion to other characters/sagas.

In my opinion the only original movies (as in, no allusion to other sagas) are the Dr. Whello, Broly movies (yes, he is a Saiyan and all that, but the overall story is original) and Hildegarn. Mind you, that is just my opinion.

As for the others:
Garlic = Pilaf+Piccolo+Raditz
Tullece = Saiyan Saga
Slug = Piccolo Daimao+Piccolo Jr.
Coola = Freeza
Meta Coola = Ciber Freeza
Androids = Androids/Cell
Bojack = Cell
Janemba = Buu

As for the topic itself, I think I prefer tie-ins, especially with the Freeza Army, Tullece + Henchmen, Coola + Henchmen and now Abo + Cado do it for me, although I also like Garlic Jr. and Paragus +Broly.

End note: If you'd like to include everything, Lucifer was quite original and a very nice character. Also Hatchiak's OVA had an original story despite the fact that it had tie-ins with the Tsufur and was later kinda an allusion for the Baby saga.

Actually it's Slug = Planet Namek, Ginyu and Freeza, since he's a planet taker and he's a Namekian, pretty much a symbol of the whole Freeza Saga, and his henchmen barely resemble Dodoria and Zarbon, plus Goku turns Super Saiyan for the first time against him.

Guess so, but he still gets the same wish as Daimao and grows gigantic like Piccolo Jr. so... You know... ^^
