AKA Michael Bay. But honestly, anyone looks like an improvement next to him (except maybe Uwe Boll).Cartman Blues wrote:Satan.

If we got a Dragon Ball movie that was as much fun as Transformers, I would be happy.

Yea really... Bay isn't as awesome as he thinks he is, but comparable to Uwe Boll?
Speaking for myself, I hate Pearl Harbor as much as the next guy. And I think Armageddon was overrated. The Island, while not bad, per se, was kind of bland.
But I thought that Transformers, while flawed, was a lot of fun.
I love the Bad Boys films, especially the second one. That movie gets frequent time in my DVD player.
And I always found The Rock to be somewhat entertaining for what it is.
...I'll admit I don't have anything on-topic to add. Please don't lock on my account!

To show my appreciation, I'll only beat them half to death.

The point was that blanket statements like that hardly say anything about the competency of the director. FOX could put just about any director on Dragonball (or any movie, for that matter) and you’d be able to say, “well at least we aren’t getting Michael Bay!”, Uwe Boll being a notable exception.Onikage725 wrote:Yea really... That's not really what the exchange above conveyed, which is what I was referring to.
"Be glad this guy isn't directing."
"Who is that?" "Satan."
"AKA Michael Bay...anyone looks like an improvement next to him (except maybe Uwe Boll)."
I was just saying Bay's not that bad. You could do better than getting Bay, but you could do a whole hell of a lot worse too (and I don't think the definition of that is simply Uwe Boll). You basically suggest that he's the 2nd worst director out there, notably exceeded by Boll. I'm expressing my opinion that that's an unfair assessment. He has a couple of stinkers, some mediocre films, and some pretty good ones. I think he's actually better than the guy they have on here. The Final Destination flicks and The One are all movies I like, but they are totally guilty pleasures. Some of Bay's films I consider actually good films, and some I've actually got on DVD (compared to Wong- I have a recording of FD and a VHS of The One).
My only real problem with Bay is his... I dunno how to describe it, but sometimes when I listen to the guy it sounds like he took classes at the Todd McFarlane School of Humility.

I fully agree with that.Onikage725 wrote:I was just saying Bay's not that bad. You could do better than getting Bay, but you could do a whole hell of a lot worse too (and I don't think the definition of that is simply Uwe Boll).
If seen better films than the ones directed by Michael Bay.
But then again, I have also seen a lot that were much worse.
Even Uwe Boll isn't entirely just making crap... or at least not the biggest crap I've ever seen *lol*
(Besides, I couldn't do any better than these guys, just for a side-note)

What'd Boll make that wasn't total crap?
I've seen of his, in this order, Alone in the Dark, Bloodrayne, and parts of House of the Dead. BR is the only one I would ever consider watching again if I was just too lazy to turn the channel. HotD almost made me never want to play the actual games again. I hadn't seen that level of sacrilege since Game of Death.

Well, that’s not quite what I meant; it was mostly intended as a joke, hence the offered clarification.Onikage725 wrote:I was just saying Bay's not that bad. I agree that Bay is not the worst of the worst. I enjoy his films for what they are, usually (pop corn flicks). I really liked Transformers and will probably buy it on Blu-ray at some point.
But at the same time, just because he can put out a decent movie and have it make money, that doesn’t mean he’s exactly worthy of praise, either. His films are awfully generic, after all; I needn’t remind anyone of how they all seem to ditch substantive plots and meaningful character development in favor of clichés and mind-numbing action sequences. Maybe that’s just what the American public wants (or is used to), but I can certainly do without it.
Keep in mind, too, that this is the guy who wants to remake Rosemary’s Baby, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, and—unable to take the hint from the Psycho remake that even films that mimic Hitchcock to a tee don’t go over well—The Birds, all of which are classics that do not need to be remade. He just seems to be the type of guy who can’t help himself; it’s almost as if, like his self-parodying Verizon commercials, he really does want to make everything “awesome.” While there are certainly scores of artists worse, I certainly can’t peg him as a favorite of mine, and it is for these reasons that I would much rather have someone else do Dragonball… not that Wong is offering much relief, though.

Hey I remember him. That's the guy that after 20 years of waiting finally gave me an Autobot pissing on the back of someones head.JAPPO wrote:Just be glad this man isn't directing.
I'm genuinely interested in the movie now, after reading through this thread. Maybe it wont be so bad. Just give it some time and wait for more info to surface.
Shame this didn't happen for Transformers.Kendamu wrote:Well, when the American version of Godzilla flopped, in Japan they replied with Godzilla 2000. If this new American version of Dragonball shares the same fate, maybe we'll get a response from Japan in the form of a movie.Chrono Trigger wrote:It's a shame they can't just redo the whole movie....
You know...if you actually read that line over and over, the idea of that actually sounds pretty funny.Orochi_Rockman wrote:Hey I remember him. That's the guy that after 20 years of waiting finally gave me an Autobot pissing on the back of someones head.
But really, as much as Transformers was more of a human flick and shoved a ton of merchandise in our face, it at least got the basics of what a Transformers movie should be and at least delivered in visuals, as well as got the looks right.
Optimus still took on the look of a truck, still sported the red and blue look and even had Peter Cullen voicing him. We still got giant robots trying to kill eachother while blowing shit up around them. There were still robot deaths.
Meanwhile, Dragon Ball...doesn't look much like the source material.
But yes, Uwe Boll is the exception in all of this. I wouldn't even wish for him to direct this out of spite. That's how terrible he is.

Buh? That was probably the most insulting part. A lot of them barely looked like "Giant robots" let alone Transformers. They were cool hollywood metal monsters maybe... but honestly I was more impressed by the Taekwon V videos so far.a Transformers movie should be and at least delivered in visuals, as well as got the looks right.
Even if you do like the designs, the fight scenes were far too shaky, and the overcomplicated aesthetic combined with that made them hard to follow.
What you list is all it had in common with the original really. It wasn't even "cheesy" in the same charming way the original was. It's all MTV generation cheese.
