Does anybody believe in Karma here?

I had such a crud day yesterday... Let me tell you all my wonderful story that you will probably be very uninterested to here.

Woke up late had twenty minutes to get to work in my delightful petshop job... Got to work discovered that I did not have my locker keys... Cursed and phoned my mum as I needed to break into my own locker as my workshoes are kept in there. (hehe don't laugh i'm 20 and can drive!)
Mum actually drove them to me, enabling me to escape getting another thorough bollicking from my boss....

Survived half the day, By then I was starving (Unfortunatly I work NEXT to a mcdonalds.) Went upstairs to grab some money so I could purchase a yummy Big Mac to get me through the day...
No money... Forgot money and cards at home.... Picked up the phone again and got my parents to bring me my money and cards up... Stood in the pouring no torrential cold rain in the carpark waiting, and finally got my big mac after getting drenched. - parents not to chuffed at this point... quite understandable.

Got home at last, was going to be going to a huge fireworks display held annually as it was Guy Fawkes Night (A celebration held in England.) The rain and freezing wind made me certainly think twice and I backed out. - As if I was going to stand in the freezing rain and watch some firworks shoot in the sky and probably land on my head in that freezing cold, torrential rain and wind. (I will mention the rain again, It was bad.)

Got into bed at around 10-30 as had work early the next morning which was depressing, tucked up my blankets, - and boof my phone fell onto the floor. Now my floor is a soft very high piled carpet and normally this would not affect it at all. However I had seemingly had a pretty shit day, and just to prove it, my phone flashed in a crazy fashion making funny noises... Now the keypad won't work and the touchscreen has stopped.
I can't text, use the menu or type in any numbers. My precious phone is broken... And before you say it. I can't find the recipt as it's not in the box, and no stupid me does not have insurance.

Now... This perhaps makes me think this is karma???

Next day I survive work with not as many bad things happening... I get home, log onto my pc, go on Daizex and find out this spectalular news about the dragonball special!!!! :P
For the first time in two days I have a smile on my face, Yes I have a broken phone, Yes work are pissy with me... But I do have this delighful warm feeling of knowing the dragonball special will be streaming on the internet!
"Ok, use your instincts Kakarott. Right or Left? (Hmmm... I'd have to say... left.) Good. Then I'm going right!" (Vegeta to Goku as they try to find their way to free the others inside Buu - Episode: The Innards of Buu)

Exactly. Only 30-40 episodes, Kunzait? Aw man, that's barely finishing the Arlong Park arc, right? Not nearly enough to understand why One Piece is considered as good as it is. You've barely gotten a nibble of the drama with Nami's backstory, and haven't even gotten hints of really "interesting" characters like Chopper or Franky. If watching more of the anime isn't an option, I'd suggest marathoning the manga instead. Some of the anime's filler is kind of iffy after all, and things have been going at too slow a pace for a lot of people in the later episodes.

Unlike a lot of other series, One Piece has this whole, overarching world and mood to it, but it doesn't try to set up and drill the way things work into your head from the beginning. Something that may seem like small pickings or completely irrelevant, stupid or meaningless at first may end up having a huge impact later in the story arc, or connection to past events Like, who'd have thought this guy (the bearded dude breaking up Shanks and Buggy's fight) would end up being such a huge and important figure, or that what Shanks did to "scare" away the Sea King was actually a strange kind of mental ability used by those with a strong will?

It's a series that takes it's time to build up it's world and the attachment to and quirks of the people and places. There's STILL a lot of "new" things being introduced for every past bit that gets explained. Even sometimes using what may seem like absurd concepts... Who'd have thought you could get such an emotional story out of something like a living skeleton who's friends with a whale?

A couple more great examples of One Piece's drama: (Spoilers Warning)

What OS are you using? It could be the requirements. (I saw it works with XP and Vista; I have no idea about Macs or Linux or older Windows versions).

I have Vista on my laptop and it worked fine there.
I am using windows XP. I think I have to install some of the standard support programs. Like Java or something like that. BTW are you Meri?

I haven't tried it on my XP yet (mostly because I tend to prefer to download open source software on the laptop rather than experiment on my PC. If my laptop explodes; no problem--well, problem, but not a huge one; if my PC explodes I'm in deep trouble.)

I'd say check to see if any of your media-related programs have updates available. I know there are some things I can't watch on my PC because I still have Media Player 10 rather than 11.

Nope. ^^;

Woah, news of the Dragon Ball special was enough for me, but the fact that it's actually going to be put up (legally!) on the official Jump site with the possibility of subs being more than likely? (explodes)

I know the Jump site has been pretty friendly to their foreign site viewers for a while now (I was pretty surprised to find stuff like English translated manga available) but this still surprises me. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, though. I mean the guys at Jump definitely know that anime's a pretty big thing even outside of Japan and with things like message boards and the like serving as ways for fans to get their thoughts out, having the anime on their site for everyone else to see makes sense. It's stuff like this that reminds me just how far anime's come from since the early days of Toonami...

Well with them legally streaming the movie would this mean it would be legal for people to upload to youtube.

This way people can pause the video

I'm sure Toei/Jump will have the IPs of all those who view the site, and will be able to find out who uploaded it to Youtube.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Youtube aren't going to give Toei free reign over their user database to find a specific IP address, it would be absolutely impossible to track, not to mention that they can't tell exactly what the users are doing, streaming a video on the fly, or downloading it and saving it are going to look like exactly the same thing.

Why stream in the first place if they don't allow people to download or watch it on youtube?

So in other words, the Dragonball special will be on Youtube?

Because they want to do something nice. It's bad enough Toei and many Japanese anime companies have a terrible rep outside.

I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

Fair enough, I guess. I'd still reccomend (to anyone, mind) reading a little farther than that, though.

I am kind of puzzled at Letter Bee's inclusion as one of the Jump series to get a special for the Jump anime tour, and now as one of the only three to be screened online. It's not particularly long-running, and I've never heard of it either. Is it just very popular in Japan but word hasn't spread yet? I think it's also interesting that Naruto wasn't included in the tour at all.
This was the first time Letter Bee got animated, from what my 7.3 seconds of googling showed me, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Far, far better than DBZ.

Chibi Goku could kick a Super Saiya-jin's ass.
Alternatively, I'm hyped for this new special and downloaded the required browser. I'm hoping (hoping, mind you-- I know how unlikely it is) that this will lead to some ongoing material every few years, because now that we're actually getting somethin' new after all this time I'm starting to like the feeling.

And they chose a very fan-friendly period for this special, too. Would'a been nice to see Goten and Trunks, er, I dunno . . . GROW a teeny bit over the past two years, but that's not necessarily a complaint.

Ooo, I haven't been this hyped about a new animation of anything in ages! This is gonna be fun! I've been living off the little bits of animation from the intros for the games, and stuff like the Strongest-in-Japan tournament, and JumpFest specials for too long.

And on another note, please don't judge a series by its anime unless that is its original incarnation. Because, honestly, there are parts in the Dragonball anime that I just can't stand, as well, yet those moments are infinitely better done in the manga. As far as One Piece goes, you haven't started it unless you've made it to the Grand Line. Anything before that is mostly just introduction and character set up. Yes, I know its long, but then its a long series. We're only about half way through, I believe.

And yes, Death Note is a good series, however, its just a one night stand for me. I don't see myself going back to it. Its well done, but it just feels a lot like the whole "Dread Pirate Roberts vs Vizzini" wit-match from the Princess Bride. But was it entertaining? Indeed.

Kunzait_83, I understand what you are saying (though I personally loved the series since the first episode). I was just asking because I agree with you in what you usually say about Dragon Ball, I agree with you in what you say about the English version of Dragon Ball, and I agree with you in what you said about Naruto.

But I also believe that all those virtues you mentioned when talking about Dragon Ball can be applied to One Piece (including the "mixing of cool cultures or themes"; pirates is definitely not the only motif). That's why your comment about One Piece being generic surprised me, since I actually consider One Piece to be one of the most unique series ever (I'm not talking about shonen or anime).

It is true that One Piece doesn't reach its "uniqueness" until after a few more episodes, but I think that even during the first chapters you can see some of the things that make it great, or at least different. For example, have actually seen things like the flashbacks of One Piece in lots of shonen?

I think the series has a lot more going on behind its "generic-Dragon Ballish-shonen" facade. It's something I kind of noticed since the beginning, and as the series went on I confirmed it. It's definitely unique (and I'm not saying it's necessarily good, but it's definitely not generic). And I have to tell you: I don't like Naruto, and Bleach doesn't even wake my interest, so it's not like I love whatever the genre throws at us either.

Personally, I tend to get wary of a series if the "Good Bit" is always "just five episodes away", that "it doesn't really get REALLY REALLY good" until episode 156.

And it makes me wonder, why in the world did you sit through 15 hours of crap, then? If the series doesn't truly get entertaining for another 5 hours of viewing, well then why in the world did YOU watch through it the first time?

Now, I'm not saying that it is. One Piece simply stopped interesting me when I let my subscription to American Shonen Jump run out two years into its run...mostly due to the Yu-Gi-OH! "Manetic Picture Frame" and the fact that I found myself more interested in their "New Series Not In This Magazine Previews" than the actual content beyond Dragon Ball "Z".

But I'm getting off an already off-topic.

...basically, what I said in the first two "paragraphs".

But then, doesn't that negate the "it doesn't get good until 50 episodes in!", and "15 hours in?! That's just the stupid beginning!" arguments?
