Dragonball DS - General discussion

Post by Jordy » Fri Sep 19, 2008 9:10 am

Since there a lot of of DBDS flubs but no central topic I decided to create this one to kind of try and organize the stuff here.
The game came out yesterday in Japan. My copy "already arrived" so I thought you might be interested in this.

Some General thoughts and fun things. (may contain SPOILERS)

-The game has a 3D intro with scenes from the game set to (tv-size) Makafushigi Adventure.
-The graphics look very good. some of the best 3D I've seen on DS.
-There are lots of cutscenes.
-Controls are pretty easy with just the directional button and stylus.
-Although you controll Goku Bulma can use her gun to help and defeat enemies.
-There is practically no speach except for some soundbites.
-The tutorial is given by Grandpa Gohan who speaks from the heavens(?) to Goku.
-The game plays a bit like Lemmings in the way that Goku has to clear obstacles and move blocks in order for Bulma to continue
-Somehow you don't get to fight the giant Pterodactyl form the beginning of the Manga
-Because of the Gap between the 2 screens it looks like Bulma has no pants on some cutscenes

How much of the game is voiced? Is it just special attacks, or are parts of the story voiced?

Just some battle cries and stuff. Oh and you have to fight blue pigs in the beginning.

What? A game that actually just lets you read instead of wasting endless space having them chatter at you every five minutes? Awesome.

Also contributes to the chance of me being able to get this even if there isn't a Japanese vocal track.

I am buying this for a few reasons.

A. My DS is desperate for a new game, I haven't used it in maybe a year.
B. If it is anything Like Advance Adventure it will be awesome.
C. A New DB game, not DBZ, and not a fighter.
D. I buy most of the games anyway.

Whoops made a little mistake:
-The pterodactyl is indeed a boss, the story just played out a bit different. He's the first boss and although easy, fun to beat.
-The I've-solved-a-puzzle-sound is a LOT like Zelda's
-You can replay any level you've beaten
-Levels are pretty big and take at least 10-15 minutes to beat

I just got home and I just got my game as well.
I've been out all day, so I haven't even put it in my DS yet.

I wish I didn't have to wait till November 4th for the U.S. release. Oh well...sounds like this game will be pretty good.

I had the biggest smile on face, probably in the last month or so.

Ok I just finished the first mini-boss(a pterodactyl and its offspring).
So, now I would be starting part 4 of chapter 1. From the little icon, I guess I'll be meeting Kame Sen'nen.

Positive Comments:
-Nyoibo is awesome! It has let me attack enemies with ease. It can't stretch out all the way to an infinite length, but if you can position yourself correctly you should be able to hit your foes.
-Bulma is actually useful. She helps out killing little enemies and she, apparently, can make stuff out of items you pick-up after defeating the foes.
-If you fall down a pit or body of water, you don't die. You just lose a little health. Not so bad.

Negative:
-Only one thing, pushing giant rocks is difficult for me. It takes forever!

There are a few english trailers on Kotaku but there all kinda crap using recycled Burst Limit trailer music and even the instrumental version of "Kiseki no Honô yo Moeagare!!".

I love that song as much as the next guy but they could have atleast used an instrumental of "Mystical Adventure".

Trailer 1 - http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=174l_KqyG3E
Trailer 2 - http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=qfQtXVCId_Y
Trailer 3 - http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=uke8Ld2Ln_E

Hopefully the actual game will use the normal Japanese version music along with "Mystical Adventure". The Burst Limit music seems really out of place.

This is a DB DS help forum...I like to keep it that way.

Anyway, I'm stuck at Oolong's place. I can't get up the third elevator. Help?

GameTrailers has been showing trailers with the original Makafushigi Adventure opening.

Although they've been having a nasty habit of ending it weirdly.
