Be grateful the filler in Dragon Ball doesn't suck like the 3rd arc of Rurouni Kenshin.

What I don't care for where the brightness is concerned is when color differences or other details become lost. I get the feeling that there'll be instances where I'm staring at Goten's super-dark, super-black sleeves where I'll ask myself, "Didn't those used to be blue? And have light effects on them?"

I'm still getting this set, a'course. But I'd easily trade washed-out, oversaturated colors for grain and a more subdued pallete. Hell, the grain is some of the charm.

I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

Again, completely agreed. I prefer when something that's this old at least somewhat wears it's age on it's sleeve. Not EVERYTHING has to go super, ultra, maximum, crystal clear HD and try to look like it was just made 45 minutes ago.
That made me chuckle for some reason.

Well, the real problem is, this 'remastered' crap doesn't look clearer at all. It's blurred, over saturated and details are lost. I could do that already by messing with the contrast on my TV.

Yeah, there's grain on the original footage but it looks better. Black lines aren't almost overshot out of existence. I don't care about grain, just pixelisation.

Kunzait, we see eye to eye. The grain was always my favorite part of DBZ, back when I watched episodes on the International Channel. To me its just part of the Dragon Ball package, and I think it looks was better than trying to make something so old into "Crystal Clear HD not!"

Unfortunately, FUNimation does not have film enthusiasts or dedicated collectors in mind; they’re just making it for ADHD kids. Which is stupid because in practice most kids would not give a shit about it being saturated and in widescreen as long as it was DBZ, and those that would could easily zoom in/change the mode to “Vivid” on their TV set like they do at Best Buy.

Yes, becuase we all love watching a bit of grain don't we. It's the most important thing when watching a show. Fuck all the content, the grain is where it's at! Grain FTW!!

Intriguing characters? Nah. Compelling storylines? Nope. Good art...well, that's a resounding FUCK NO anyways, but still, nuh-uh. IT'S ALLL ABOUT THE GRAIN, MOFOS.

I don't really care about the whole widescreen deal (well, I do, but, you know, I'll live with it) it's their messing with the footage that irks me especially when coupled with an extreme lack of consistency between sets.

What about people who just want Dragon Ball for a cheap price and legal?

Screw it, I don't want this thread to get locked.

Judging from Season 6, Funi hasn't really done much to the masters and the dark colors may have to do more with age and lack of proper care for the film.
