I dunno, you'd figure people would post up clips of how the dub sounds with the original music as opposed to something they could have just ripped from an older DVD. :?
DBZanto used to use the JPN music for his clips but not anymore.

But if two clips look similar in HQ, you can pretty much make your decision from that.

Well they use to be low-quality screencaps, but NOT ANYMORE xD, if you go back a couple pages you'll see they are now png, which is very much high quality screencaps now ;), so remember that.

Yeah, but they're PowerDVD, which uses incorrect image sizes. Not only that, but even if you change the saving format, it'll still be saved as a .jpg/.bmp. Those images are 960X536, while the proper image size is 836X480. Use VLC Media player for screencaps. Just take a look at the difference it makes (top is PDVD, bottom is VLC):

Notice how the top screencap looks like all of the Season 7 screencaps posted so far?

Wow, you're right. I didn't know that >_<. Thanks for showing me the difference xD. When I get the time I'll go back and take those screens again using VLC this time. The difference isn't real big but I can see it.

It's a bit sad that the episode count is so low, but then again, it's also insurance that the last two sets won't have Discs 5 and 6 with three episodes apiece on them. Seriously, if I wanted three eps per disc, I'd buy the singles a second time.

My season seven is a lot better than the screenshots posted. I'll post some of my own later.

Could someone with this season set please scan me the cover? I need something that's not the on-an-angle version that's floating around on most retailer sites. Just wanna update the DVD Guide.

Honestly, different programs will use different resizing algorithms, generating differences in the pictures. We should really develop a standard on the forums that we can use to compare screens so we don't confuse people (and some programs even leave a green line or two down the sides of the image as well).

We should really use an AVI Synth Script and just ask everyone to use the same script for comparisons, for example.

Code: Select all

DGDecode_mpeg2source(".\VTS_01_1.d2v")
tfm(order=1).tdecimate(hybrid=1)
ConvertToRGB32()
Crop(9,0,-9,0)
Lanczos4Resize(640, 480)
The above is actually the best way to generate a 640x480 image that maintains the aspect ratio of a 4x3 image. The code would be slightly different for a 16x9 image. And we could use versions that extrapolate and interpolate (stretch versus shrink the image).

Maybe I should just work a few scripts up for us and post them in my signature or something.

So the GT trailer on season 7 is shown 4x3, does this confirm that the GT season sets won't be cropped?

A review from Chris of AnimeOnDVD will confirm or deny if the sets are in 4:3.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

If they're 16:9, it's pretty much a given that Chris won't touch them with a ten foot pole.

That's weird that Funi didn't get the message when the man who runs the largest Anime On DVD reviewing says he won't review them because of the widescreen.

He did review the Bardock/Trunks set, though.

People shouldn't judge video quality by youtube. Even if the posted video is in HD its still inferior quality, since the video only looks good minimized. If you blow it up to fullscreen it will look bad.

I thought lots of things had been confirmed by this point, but apparently we have jack shit. FUNimation has us running in so many circles about the aspect ratio, episode count and remastering that I don't know my head from my ass anymore-- it's as if FUNi is waiting until the very last second to decide what to do with all this.

The actual words at NYAF regarding Dragonball GT Season One:
15:07:46 <bay|NYAF|Funi> this will NOT be wide screen
Seems pretty clear to me. Also, the trailer is in 4:3 too. Honestly, EVERYTHING points to GT being in 4:3, so I don't see any reason to believe otherwise.
