As you can read from the subject line I’m planning to create my own Dragonball related fan comic and will be showing my process on this thread. If I’m not allowed to that here and the thread is locked I will completely understand and start a blog if needed too. But the reason why I want to post my progress here because one, I love this forum. Two, in the short three months I’ve started posting here I realized there is lot of active members that know there stuff. Your critiques, comments, and overall input will be great help. Below are few questions you might have, along with my answers:
Who the hfil are you? My online alias BlackScarz, Scarz for sort and I’m freelance web designer and comic book artist. I’m relatively new to the world of freelancing and comics but I’m always able to find work. I am currently an art student and will continue my study in animation. I have been a big fan Dragonball anime for at least nine years.
If you don’t have a Fan manga yet, what is this thread for anyway? I’m hoping this thread will be development in making a fan comic. The idea was suggested to me by a close friend, he mentioned that seeing the making of the comic (sketches, story, character designs, ideas, etc) would be cool and worth seeing. Plus asking die hard dragonball fans what they think and their suggestions for the comic would feel more like a community project. It sounded cool enough to me.
Okay then, what is the fan comic about? That’s a good question; I hope you’re ready for a long read. This is fan comic is separated into three Arcs which I will explain later. But I rather focus on the one for now. I should also mention this now, this comic is mostly about two original characters.
Original Characters? That’s so lame. Why not make a comic about the characters that already exist in the series? Okay, I understand if you’re totally against oc’s of any kind. So am I. Usually they play out as self inserts or better known as Mary and Bob sues. But the reason I wanted to do it because it seemed like a fun challenge. The characters that I’d picked for this story has so many fun flaws and interesting traits that opened up a whole new world of DB to explore.
Besides, if Toriyama could drop Saiyan relative almost seemingly out of now where, why can’t I do the same?

Okay enough questions here’s the story and notes so far. This is just a cut and copy from “brainstorming_dbz_fancomic” word doc from my computer
Synopsis: After unexpected delivery to capsule Corp. ,Bulma meets an old friend, Launch (Lunch if you prefer) and with her was her very young daughter Uzi. Tomaka, the third child of Bulma and Vegeta, is forced to spend the day with her daughter. Unfortunately he’ll soon find out she inherited he mothers bizarre personality.
Now the story in further detail: (If you are interested in reading this fan comic in the future, I must warn you this thread will contain massive spoilers and unfinished ideas. Nothing is written in stone, so some things may change or removed entirely).
Story (Arc I)
The story takes places a few years after the last episode of GT. However this isn’t entirely a story that continues were GT has left off (i.e. Dragonball AF by Toyable), this more about a series of short stories focused mostly on two characters.
Genre: Action/Comedy (no overly dramatic plot, just an excuse to goof around with the first story)
Setting: Takes place mostly within the capsule corp. compound (also another excuse to explore the huge compound and draw whole bunch of gadgets, and laboratories, and wired rooms. Like that cool garden Mr. Brief has)
Main Characters:
Tomaka: Is the third (and last) child of Vegeta and Bulma Brief. He takes traits from both his parents. Like his mother he’s a little genius but still wet behind his ears, creating things that will eventually back fire or blow up. He can also be very prideful and rude like his father. He often takes the fact that he’s genius a little too far, declaring that he’s the smartest kid in world and doesn’t bother to interact with anyone who is not as smart as he is, except for his father of course.
Tomaka can’t stand the fact that his older brother Trunks is stronger than he is, despite being lazy when it comes to training. Tomaka trains with his father any chance he gets. He father is unbelievable tough on the young boy, constantly telling him that he’s weak and could to do much better. Tomaka has one tragic physical flaw, no matter how hard he trains he can’t become a super Saiya-jin, and his willingness to become one will soon become an obsession.
Tomaka was originally drawn and created by Allymcbeal18 and has given me permission to draw comic about him.
Uzi – Is the daughter of Launch and Tienshinhan. She very polite, cheerful, and is always looking for a new friend. Because her mother is Delivery woman she is used to traveling a lot. Because of her strength she more than willing to help her mother carry large parcels. Sadly, Uzi has inherited a usual gift, or curse from her mother. Ever y time she sneezes she will change into an evil and destructive little girl. Unlike her mother her hair doesn’t change color; instead a third eye will appear on her forehead. Neither personality is aware of the other existence. They just assume they have amnesia which causes them to forget things they have done. Launch hasn’t told Uzi who her father is or about her daughters’ split personality.
Other Characters: Bulma, Vegeta, Trunks, Bra, Launch, and Mr. Brief.
Plot (so far): Launch is working for very popular delivery service and has to deliver a heavy shipment to Capsule Corp. in west city. As usual she brings her daughter with her. When they arrive, they meet Bulma, who surprised to see Launch again after so many years. She even more surprised to see that she has daughter, and being a Brief she is very pushy to ask who the father is but Launch is wont to tell. Bulma offers to buy Launch brunch and spend a little time together to catch up. She suggests that her daughter can stay in her house with her son and Bra could babysit. Launch is little worried at first, knowing what Uzi can do when she sneezes but Bulma insist, suggesting that Tomaka could learn to play with kids his own age.
When hearing about this, Tomaka is not happy. But after a threat to take away all privilege to the lab he gives in. Uzi cheerful altitude and curiosity will drive Tomaka nuts. He tries his best to be alone but to no avail. He decides to use Uzi as genie pig to one of his new inventions that remained untested. A power blocker (working title), when worn the fighter can power up as much as he can and his ki will remain undetectable by anyone or any device. It was created just in case the fighter needs to make an emergency escape. Uzi, not understanding what the device was, agrees to try it out. When she does she feels a little tickle in her nose which causes her to sneeze.
Tomaka freaks out at the sight of Uzi sudden third eye. The confused and angry little girl before him demands to know where her “mommy” is which results in sort little scuffle between two. Tomaka tries to explain to her where her mother was and somehow is able to calm Uzi down a bit. Believing that Tomaka is her playmate for the day, she order s him to play a game with her and the game she wants to play is hide and seek.

Creator's Notes:
Now that’s what I was able to come up with so far, and of course I’m still brainstorming possibilities. Below are series a notes and ideas I’ve written down about the comic/manga:
- Eventually Evil Uzi develops a liking to Tomaka at the end of the story.
- The childish games Uzi forces Tomaka to play will result in tons of damage and mayhem within capsule corp. compounds.
- Uzi will often forget Tomaka’s name and will often call him Tomato.
- I’m not sure if I want Vegeta or Trunks at the beginning of the story. Maybe Vegeta could be off training Trunks and Goten for a few hours while Tomaka and the rest are at home.
-Bra (for now) doesn’t “interfere” much with the kids either, her version of babysitting is staying in her room listening to music and reading magazines. Every time she hears a crash (or any loud sound) she would yell at the brats to keep quite.
-I’m trying to make this story fun but also short. Maybe nothing over the 24-30 page limits, if that’s possible.
-I mentioned Arcs a little earlier and I will to explain what I mean. Every Arc is story about the same original characters, one being longer and more story heavy than the last. There are only three arcs, and each Arch continues from the last but are years apart.
-I also don’t have title to this fan comic yet, suggestion would be cool. I was thinking to go for a very classic anime episode title inspired by Japanese or English duds.
-The fan comic (when completed) will appear on the fan comic page on my website and will be powered by comic press. I will have the link up soon.
