Wrong character models used in-show

Post by JulieYBM » Sun Nov 16, 2008 4:40 pm

We've had terrible animation threads, but have we ever had wrong character model threads?

I just caught this now:

Well, in the fight against Freeza, Krillin flies away, yelling to Gohan to do the same, and he is wearing the Kame-gi, not his armor.
No more time for Daizex. Goodbye folks!

Didn't Mr. Toriyama do this by accident in the manga with the exact same scene?
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

If we're all here for a reason then I'm just visiting.

If it's held in your heart then you can't let go.

Ok, I give up.
I don't see it. :(
EDIT: Oh no, wait. Vegeta, I got it.

Vegeta should have switched to his light-armor with black tights by now.

Yup. Precisely why there is a possibility Toei 'goof'd up' with this scene intentionally.

Just for anyone who's still confused, Vegeta should be wearing this armor.

Lupin Vegeta also didn't fit his scene either.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

There are many cases of Toryama or the cel animators forgetting certain parts of the outfit of a certain character, but this is one of the rare times where they draw the wrong outfit altogether.

Here's another time that the animators drew the wrong outfit...very wrong:

And here is an example of Toryama drawing the wrong outfit (this is from the Italian version of the manga I believe):

I've noticed a lot of different instances of this. Unless it was done purposely, you would think the animators would pay a little more attention. :P

When you go through thousands upon thousands of animation cells every day, you're liable to miss things like that. Especially if you got used to drawing a character a certain way. Think about it this way. 30 frames per second, sixty seconds per minuet. thats 180 cells just for one minuet.

Assuming 8 minuets for commercials, leaving us with 22 minuets per episode leaves us at 3960 frames per episode. Multiply that by 296 episodes for JUST DBZ and it's an astounding 1,172,160 frames. That's OVER A MILLION individual cells JUST for DBZ.

So don't take such an attitude with these people if a few cells are off. They go through so many, that they have to begin to all look the same, and missing something from their end is only natural. Super Dimensional Fortress Macross (Also the first part of Robotech) had MANY similar issues with people not wearing the right rank or faction patch.

I think perhaps you took my comment a bit too seriously.

I don't know SonEric personally, but I would say just by what I've seen here that he's a pretty laid back guy, so I think that the definsiveness was unnecissary.

Plus isn't this just a thread about some wrong models, I don't notice any bashing of Toei.

I think laserkid just got himself carried away with the response :). He's an equally laid-back guy.

I'd love to see some more examples, mainly because you all do my work for me and I can just sit here and enjoy myself. Work, monkeys!

In the "We Gotta Power" intro, Gohan has his book bag in one shot then it's gone in the next! Nitpickery?!
