Hello Mother, Hello Father

Post by Freeza Heika » Tue Nov 18, 2008 7:45 pm

I was watching movie 8 dubbed a few minutes ago, at around 4 or so minutes in, when Goku and Chi-Chi are standing in line, I hear a song that sounds mysteriously like Hello Mother, Hello Father. Maybe my ears are playing tricks on me. Could someone double check this, I know I heard, but I don't believe it. Assuming I am correct, why?

As cool as the old parody song you're referring to is, the original tune is from a classical piece called "Dance of the Hours," by Amilcare Ponchielli (yay Wikipedia).

Still doesn't explain why it's in a DBZ movie. I'm so confused by its presence.

It's a very well-known, near-instantly recognizable old piece, and I'm pretty sure it's in the public domain by now. It gets used as BGM all the time, and I wouldn't be surprised if FUNi used it for their dub BGM track.

There is no music playing in the background during that scene in the original version.

Such is FUNimation.

Side note: That song is also in the Sega Genesis game "Fantasia".

Funny thing is, I thought it sounded too professional to be FUNi's own music when I first heard it.

I was actually impressed that a (somewhat) classical piece made it into their dub.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.
