What's A Genga?

I know there drawings from the series, what I dont know is what they were used for. Actuall animation or for refrence?

In the animation sense, I believe they're the same as "Key frames" in English. :)

They are the sketches for the animation that the cel painters paint over to make the final animation cels... hope that helps
