What would you change about the Jump Special?

Post by Dayspring » Tue Nov 25, 2008 6:27 pm

Title says it all. I love it, but since it was only 35 minutes, there are some things I'd like to have seen different.

1) Longer movie to allow for a flashback explanation of Tarble's existence and the fact that he somehow survived all these years.

1b) If not a longer bg for Tarble, then I'd have prefered it if it were about Onio, who stayed on the planet he was sent to rather than return to planet Vegeta. Reason: because he'd be the strongest on that planet.

2) Tenshinhan and Chaozu getting cameos. Chaozu uses his telekinesis to save Lunch from debris, but it's too heavy and falls anyway. They get saved by a Kikoho from Tenshinhan.

3) Though I understood that Aka/Abocado lost a lot of power against SSJ Gotenks and from using his special attacks, this isn't apparent to everyone, resulting in a "how can SSJ Goku be stronger than SSJ Gotenks?!" agruments. As a result, I'd rather SSJ3 Goku defeated Abocado.

4) More non-DB cameos.

I wanted to see Tabaru interact more with the cast.

And possibly for one of those Vegeta/Goku arguments to break out into an actual physical battle.
On hiatus.

Overall, I'd have liked to just see more of Tarble in general. Where he came from, what his deal was, what happened to him afterwards...

Yeah, the fact that we don't see anything about Tarble's home planet is a little annoying. Even just a little flashback would have sufficed.

Well hey, more power to us creative types this way, I guess.

1. Like everyone else, more Table background.

2. Vegeta family Garlic Ho finisher FTW!!!

3. More Piccolo. I know Vegeta fans weren't happy about his lack of action, but at least he had dialogue.

Nothing but keeping Goku and Vegeta on the sidelines so that Gotenks could actually get a final blow in. I mean, come on. SSJ 3 Gotenks could crush this Abokado fellow in his sleep.

Nothing. We're lucky to have gotten it AT ALL.

All I'll do is hope for another.

First, I would put Kakarrot in less scenes, he hogged the spotlight all through the damn thing. The special should have been something that focused on Vegeta and his family. The writers attempted to put Kakarrot in every possible scene. Next, I would have fleshed out Tarble’s background and whether or not there was a chance that other Saiyans could have survived also. More Vegeta and Bulma interaction and finally I would have ended it with Vegeta, Tarble and Gotenks defeating Aka. Not necessarily killing him, I would have left the segment with Abo and Cado eating radishes. Oh and I would have at least put Tenshinhan and Chiaotzu in the background with Launch even if they did not have speaking parts.
The Saiyans are very much like the Klingons and Jem'Hadar.

I would have wanted a little backstory on Tarble and the SSJ hair to not be so glowy. That's it. :P

But that's the thing, Dragon Ball was about Son Goku. Since this is basically a reunion special, it makes sense to have Goku have some of the spotlight.

Although I agree with everyone regarding Tarble. He just shows up, explains Abo and Cado...and that's about it. He didn't really add to anything. We don't really see what he's like or what kind of relationship he's had with Vegeta.

Tenshinhan and Chaozu not being anywhere, while Kaio-sama, Bubbles and Gregory show up is rather odd as well.

Woulda also been interesting to see how #17 was doing and see him interact with #18 and her family.

Well the reunion should have been that everyone goes over Kakarrot’s house for a barbeque and Pilaf shows up and everyone sits back, watch the star act like an idiot, and eat everything in sight.

As I took it as a fun romp through Dragonworld and cvhose not to analyze it to death because I haven't seen it a billion times and gotten bored with the sheer fun of the special yet, I wouldn't change a damn thing.

Ask me again in a few years.

I really wanted more story about Tarble... that would have been cool. If this had been the opening to a new saga instead of just a special... it would have probably fleshed his character out more and some more serious threat would have arrived after Abo and Cado or who knows what.

But still, a LITTLE bit more story on Tarble would have been the only thing that really could have made this special better. Extending it to an hour might have given time to give him more to do.

I would have wanted Tenshinhan and Chaozu to show up to the party.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Like most, I wish Tarbles existance in the special had at least somewhat of a minor importance instead it seems they jut did it to make everyone go "oh wow vegtas brother!!!111!!"

The Villains had some potential but seeing how I never was given the impression that they were the slightest bit dangerious it ruined the battle. At least until they merged, but even then it seemed like a weak attempt.

Overall, it did serve its purpose. to give us something new and pretty to look at.

Ya know, when it comes to Goku. You're quite the unpleasant fellow.

I'm going to get a lot of flak for this one, but I didn't like the special one bit. I felt that the entire thing could've been rewritten and redesigned. Sometimes, the animation looked terrible. And there were lots of plot holes.

1) Outfits: What was up with Goku and Vegeta's outfits? They were wearing things that they haven't worn in "years". Like Goku's gi from before the fight with Vegeta (with the Turtle emblem on the back). Vegeta was wearing something that he wore long before Majin Buu. So if I would change something for starters, it would be that right there. And it's not like their more recent outfits were made by TOEI. They were straight out of the Manga.

2) Tarble: ... What? How is that possible? How old is this kid? He looks like a teenager. He doesn't look any older than Gohan did during the Cell Saga. And if memory serves me correctly, planet Vegeta blew up (and thusly King Vegeta was killed) when Vegeta was at the ripe old age of 5 (according to the official timeline). So yeah, that makes absolutely ZERO sense. I'd either make him older, or make him a character more detached from Vegeta. Or do SOMETHING. Oh yeah, and I'd take King Kai, Bubbles, and Gregory's mysterious out-of-nowhere appearance out.

3) Villain(s): One word: corny. Redesign. Give them different powers.

I thought the special was boring. Had minimal action. Made no sense. Had crappy villains. And yet it survived simply because it had Dragon Ball in the title. I understand that it was supposed to be a fun little story with those characters that so many people love, but God damn, so was GT.
