Do you guys think the Special would air on Cartoon Network??

Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

I already seen the DBZ special a dozen's of times hehe since this week but i was wondering if they would ever show it on cartoon network. I know a lot of us have computers to watch it however the less fortunate who cannot afford to buy that or purchase DVDs. I think it would be cool and would be more cooler if there was like a one night TOONAMI REBORN on New Year's Eve where they would show the special dubbed of course. Wouldn't you guys watch it just to see old times on the little box?

Sadly, I don't think it'd come to be.

Most of the new guard at Cartoon Network seems to have a grudge against all anime, regardless of seniority or past relationships with the network. :(

I agree with Chuquita, why would they air it? Dragonball Z hasn't been in Cartoon Networks' lime light for years. It wouldn't benefit them anyway.

Actually, they hate anime on Adult Swim now. That is why it all gets played at 2 am.

I really wouldn't know. I'm not an Anime fan and haven't watched Adult Swim in like a year. But last where I left off, Anime dominated the crap out of it. There's just no reason for me to watch Adult Swim. I got all of Family Guy on DVD... I hate all their stupid original shows like Metalocolypse or whatever. All those shows are shitty in my honest opinion. Sometimes I tune in for Home Movies, Mission Hill, and Oblongs. But if it wasn't for those three shows, I would never know it even existed. Ironically, I got hooked to Adult Swim because of Cowboy Bebop...which now I own in its entirety. So I really have very little reason to watch Adult Swim. I don't know what's going on with them.

Yep, if there is any hope...
1.) There needs to be a dub.
2.) It would be played on Action Flix.

Good to dream I guess. well I guess I can just hear the old tom saying in the trailer:

"On one night only, A NEW DRAGONBALL Z SPECIAL IS COMING". Then you see the new Goku's SSJ form in the background. "DO NOT MISS THIS CHANCE ON NEW YEARS EVE AS TOONAMI GETS RELOADED ONTO YOUR TV SETS". Then you see the shadow of Table in the smoke coming out of the saiyan pod. "WITNESS THIS MOMENT and such such such". "ONLY ON CARTOON NETWORK."

How's that? You guys can add the such such such part.

To bad Toonami is long dead.

Hope for a dub first. Then there will be a chance for it to go on TV.

Fixed your spelling.
Ratings? I find that some what debatable. If they make a dub of it, my hopes will go up. But what is the motivation to even air it?

I'm sure they would. But it would probably be a direct-to-DVD release. I don't recall seeing most of the DBZ movies, or the GT special on TV. I'd imagine it would be the same case here. Except slap it with a release of the Season Sets or the Double Features.

I agree. I would bet money Funimation would milk the special for all it's worth.

What could they possibly do though? I mean they can't really screw it up. It's already in widescreen. All they have to do is dub it. Even if they do the worst job ever, even if they change the script completely, even if their music is worse than GT's... At least they'd have the original Japanese.

Especially in light of the live action movie. (*Looks around as if half-expecting all the electronics in the room to explode ala the podcast*).

I'd imagine Funi would at least feel a little threatened by being "replaced" in terms of what actors/actresses the U.S. fans identify Dragon Ball with. (Both in their piggybanks and their pride.)

This special could be their saving grace, their ammo against losing fans to Chatwin and Wong.
On hiatus.

The new movie may awaken new fans to DBZ. Even very young and impressionable kids could turn on to the movie. If so, it would be in Funimation's and Cartoon Network's interest to then air the new special or even the live action movie.

I'm sure FUNimation will get a chunk of money for the movie. I mean they do own part of the rights to something. I'm sure somehow they'd cash into it anyway. They're working together I'm sure. They promoted the movie on their website, gave news about it anyway. Like when Batman Begins was getting ready to come out and they started releasing the Animated Series on DVD. I'd imagine that when the movie is about to come out, they'd reach into their sacks and pull out something big. Always happens. It serves as a great market advertising. It works both ways. Statistically, when something like a movie comes out, the release of old material (such as an old show or comic or whatever) helps old fans check out the new stuff, and the new stuff helps new fans go back to the old stuff because of new found interest. When a super hero movie comes out, comic book sales go way up.

From Cartoon Network's POV... the fans who watched DBZ on their station 7 years ago or whatever are older and no longer their target audience. Therefore they probably don't care about airing it. Although i'd watch it on there for the CN logo in the corner (memories haha).
