lol Even though the Cartoon Network logo changed :(

Ah memories.

Now their target audience watches Ben 10........ Wait. Holy crap. I haven't watched it in so long. I don't even know what's on Cartoon Network other than Ben 10. When I was growing up, there was Dexter's Lab, Johnny Bravo, Cow and Chicken, DBZ, Reboot, Sailor Moon (not saying I was a fan...lol), etc. I'm guessing literally EVERYTHING is gone. At that time, they were even playing the classics. Scooby Doo, Flinstones, Jetsons. Ah memories, memories. And damn IO Digital doesn't pick up Boomerang! I know I shouldn't, but I feel bad for kids these days. We had great cartoons. They have...crap that I can't even stand to watch. On the other hand, they probably feel like what I watched was crap. Damn I feel old. You know you're old when some kid is talking to you about some show with a retarded storyline, or absolutely gawkingly disgusting animation and making jokes on the shows you used to love.

Not a chance in hell. They pulled One Piece because it wasn't pulling in Naruto ratings and they didn't like the fact that FUNi wasn't making the dub similar to 4Kids' (especially when they would often sneak around their censors at times). Then they pulled DBZ, even though it helped boost the network's ratings a few years ago, so they could air Blue Dragon and Bakugan episodes they aired earlier in the morning.

Anything that isn't Naruto is bound to get the stink eye from CN. Anything that isn't InuYasha is bound to get ignored and thrown off the schedule by Adult Swim.

Besides, the special is far from Adult Swim material.

For years, I heard that Naruto was the Dragon Ball killer. That it was this great show that is so hardcore and intense and it surpassed Dragon Ball! I was like, "wow! That show must be good!" So it came out on Cartoon Network, I saw and episode and holy hell, I just can't believe it. Once again, another anime that has to do with ninja and schools. And then they transform into things and oh my God. Yeahhhh. Dragon Ball killer. Totally. The only way it could even touch Dragon Ball is if it was so bad, it made you not to want to watch any other anime including Dragon Ball. That's the only way it could "kill" it.

I think the big question is, how are FUNimation going to go about dubbing this? (if they are going to do so) and how are they going to market it?, it doesn't exactly fit in with their "ZOMG DBZ IS SO HARDCORE" sales pitch.

 That's true.

But I don't know why people are automatically assuming that Funi's even going to get the rights to this special. I mean, just cause it's Dragon Ball related does not mean that they have to have it i.e. Plan to Destroy the Saiyajin,.....The Traffic Safely vids....:?
Be grateful the filler in Dragon Ball doesn't suck like the 3rd arc of Rurouni Kenshin.

Those things seem kind of petty to try and go through the effort to dub. I mean why would they dub a traffic safety video? I think Funimation will dub the special and keep the original music. What I'm worried about is whether or not Mr. Sabat can portray Vegeta the way he is in this special. You know?
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

haha...Plan to destroy the saiyans is a far different animal... I don't care how much people think it NEEDS to be dubbed. It's basically this weird OVA that was made based on a video game that later was IN a video game. They didn't eve give it a remaster on the dragon box or anything did they? I dunno.

It would be easy to market this. "Son Goku and Friends Return!! The Lost Episode of DBZ!!" and then people will see the dragon ball opening and be confused. But it would fit in with something Funi would do.

Or they could just tell it like it is and not act like everyone is stupid.

Not only this, but this is supposed to be a special made for the fans who haven't seen Dragon Ball in so long. This is supposed to be like seeing an old friend that you haven't seen in a long time and are catching up with them.

You can't get that with the FUNi dub considering DB hasn't really vanished from the public eye for the most part. The Seasons 1 and 2 redub were technically new material for dub viewers. It's not like we haven't gone through 11 years of no new Dragon Ball material here in the US.

True... but I'd seen all of it by 2003 so for me it's been at least 5.

An IDEAL situation for me would be for them to tack it on to Season Nine as a "special feature", since we all know that as you go further down a series the season sets sell less and less.

They'll probably package it with...something. Not sure what, considering the other two specials are already out in Funi's movie release format of choice.

It might get released with DBZ movie 13 in their double-packs.

At first, I was thinking that the special could be aired on CN's Action Flicks, but it's only a half-hour long, right? At the most, I can see them stretching it to around 45 minutes with the addition of commercials, but still I don't think it's that likely. At best, maybe it'll be aired as part of some kind of "Toonami's back for a day" thing. I'd like to say that it'll be likely that the special will air on CN, but considering just how much its changed, I dunno anymore.
Chrono Trigger wrote:What I'm worried about is whether or not Mr. Sabat can portray Vegeta the way he is in this special. You know?
Yeah, I thought about that, too. Vegeta was actually used a lot for some gags throughout the special, but I think Sabat can do a good job (assuming it's gonna be an accurate script an' all that). I mean, I remember hearing dub Vegeta's comical anger at Goku when he found out the deal he made with the Elder Kaioshin, so I'm not that worried about Vegeta dub-wise.

If anything, I think Goku in the dub will be a bit hard to portray, especially in the last scene when him and Vegeta go SSJ and fight over their food. You know Goku's angry, but it's a comical scene, so it might be hard to find just the right tone for Goku to have then.

True. I tried explaining it to one of my new college buddies, who was surprised that the series actually ended. :sigh: still hard being a DB fan...

I doubt that. It's a new special, so I can see FUNi releasing it just by itself. Heck, Shonen Jump's been talking about how Weekly Jump's hit the big 4-0, so that might even be enough for FUNi to acknowledge it as what it is: A new special after a whopping 11 years of no new DB animation outside of stuff like videogame openings... which is a big thing.

I'm sure I'll see it on Cartoon Network (Latin America), hopefully next year. They are even showing Dragon Ball movies this week.

Is it just Cartoon Network or Toonami? I heard Toonami still exists in Latin America.

Haha.
Yeah, CN loves their Naruto...however, as in Japan, the fillers have basically killed it. Hopefully when(if) Shippuuden starts in January things will perk up.

Anyway, if this special gets a dub, I'm pretty sure it'll have some chance of airing on CN. They aired the last 2 DBZ movies over the summer(Uncut, I might add). That was Toonami, but I still think it'll have a chance of airing.

Or who knows, they may decide they want to air the first Spiderman flick for the 100th time.
Non-Cartoon movies/shows on CARTOON Network make me mad...

Damn Action Flix...
How can they even hope to have Naruto carry them through as their single Anime. I don't get this at all.

I miss Toonami...1999-2005

We were discussing that on Funi's Dragonball board(MagicBox and mysefl). I don't really think they could mess this up. The dialogue in the special is straight foward and there aren't many pauses like in the TV series.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

God, I hope not, I'm totally willing to throw down money for this special, but I don't want to be forced to buy 30 episodes I already own just to get a half hour special.

For me an ideal release would be a "double feature" with the PlayDia footage, FUNimation could market it as "THE LOST DBZ MOVIE" for all I care, so long as they actually put it out.

Cartoon Network. There's no way you can miss Dragon Ball there.
DB: 6 am, 8 pm, and I think around midnight too.
DBZ: 8 am, 3:30 pm, 8:30 pm. Saturdays 12 pm
DBGT: Not sure but I think it's very early in the morning.

I'm not sure about Toonami. I checked it right now (12:10 am) and I saw Scooby Doo at the time I used to watch Dragon Ball last year.

I could see it being dubbed and aired on Cartoon Network by the end of next year at the earliest, as well as a DVD release at about the same time.

Quick question...

How long is the special?

Haven't watched it yet.
Goku: "Look Vegeta! People popcorn!"
Vegeta: "What is he on?"
