I should have specified I meant the ones put out by Viz.

I tend not to use the term "graphic novel" in relation to manga because format wise it isn't really accurate.

Actually, the correct term for a comic compilation in english is "trade paperback" but everybody and their dog uses the phrase "graphic novel" to describe any relatively large comic book, so whatever.

Meanwhile the phrase "graphic novel" traditionally refers to a longer more mature comic book that was made in such a format, and not just a compilation. But since then it's become an umbrella term referring to both trade paperbacks and tankoubon as well.

Well, with the way DC and Marvel do some of their bigger titles these days they may as well be called graphic novels.
