So after a year and a half of no Ps2, I finally got myself a new one and along with it, the newest DBZ release for said console, Infinite World! From what I hear, this is also the last Ps2 release for DBZ, for real this time...! Hearing that the Japanese VAs are indeed optional and that a certain singer's music is maintained, I decided to nab it and having done so, am liking what I'm seeing.
It really is the best of all the Budokai games and since I haven't played Burst Limit (nor do I plan to anytime soon, due to the lack of a Ps3), I'm lovin' some of the new material added onto the already-sweet stuff ported from Budokai 3 and the Shin Budokai games. Funny thing is, I haven't yet gotten Budokai Tenkaichi 3/NEO, even though it's been a year since that's been released, so this technically won't be my final Ps2 game purchased. Or who knows, it might be, as BT2/METEOR really gave me my full in regard to that unique style of playing DBZ.
So far, I've finished the entire story mode (on very easy no less), though I'm ashamed to say I haven't figured out how to get past a "Training" session with Tenshinhan in the Saiyan saga where you have to do so many certain attacks (and hence get 4 more or so of those types of battles). Either way, that's not related to this Dragon Mission, so I was able to continue on and kick butt. Funny thing about the kinda-last fight with Yi Xing Long before doing the second play-through, Mike was right, you really do need the right capsules if you wanna take him down and same can be said for other certain opponents (I can't begin to count how many times I've eaten a Roast Pig!).
I'm really enjoying what Dimps has given us this last time around, even though it may come off as a tad bit rushed, Infinite World is currently my second favorite video game (after Budokai 3 Greatest Hits, of course). Who knows, it may soon become my #1 favorite, it's that dang good IMO. Though quite the number of characters' ultimate moves are copy-pasted from Budokai 3 for the most part, there are some very cool new ones, more-so for the new characters included (GT Goku, Pan, Pikuhan, etc., etc.), as well as some of the returners (Kid Gohan for example). The cut-scenes are fantastic, perhaps the best yet IMO (second only to the first Budokai), and did I mention how surprisingly fun the mini missions are~
My main disappointments with the game, perhaps keeping it from being my favorite, come from a couple factors that sorta show how subtly rushed this probably was. Primarily, the story mode, even though I like the similar-to-Budokai 2 moving method and the cut-scenes included are awesome, there really isn't any other attempt at making it more of an arcade mode where you merely battle the opponents your fighter did in the anime. The mini missions give a better emphasis on the story, but with the battles that don't feature any cut-scene (which there are a lot of), all you do is enter the fight and brawl, not even any pre-fight dialogue like you'd see in the Dueling mode.
Another quirk I have is how obvious the copy-paste factor gets after a while, with all of the fighting arenas being more-or-less the exact same as we'd find in Budokai 3, with the exact same "breakthrough" spots Mike described in the podcast (to me, they appear to have the same time lengths as Budokai 3). Really not a whole lot of material outside of the new tweaks and twists to the game-play and characters, though fortunately what Budokai 3 did well is it gave us some neatly detailed and fun venues to fight in. It's probably just that I've been spoiled by the quite cool places the Tenkaichi/Sparking! games have taken us, but hey, it ain't all that shabby.
To sum things up, yes, I love Infinite World. Ain't my favorite DBZ game, may not be in the future, but I enjoy it and will definitely continue playing on occasion in the future. For whatever the right thumb of Conan's is worth, this game gets an up position from it. You rock, Infinite World! You guys feel free to comment on my brief unofficial review, comment on your own fresh experiences of the game, whichever you all prefer. *Goes to do dishes*
So I got myself Infinite World...

I pretty much agree with your review. Though it does feel rushed and copypasted in some spots, it's a great game overall. The new special moves for the characters are great, and the cutscenes are up there with B1 as well.
But I still miss my Dragon Rush. >:-(

Well, I finally finished the extra training battles in the Saiyan saga I didn't get to before, now 100% finished with Dragon Mission. Now I need zeni to get the rest of these cursed capsules. Any cheat codes leaked yet similar to Budokai 2's?
Good to see you've also gotten the game, Bobby. You ain't the only one who misses Dragon Rush, I'm also one in a few whom enjoys that particular feature. I think we've lost a couple ultimates without it.

Go to the mission where you play as 18 and have to let Mr. Satan knock you out of the ring. Play it on Z difficulty (I think you have to buy it) and equip the WE GOTTA POWER capsule. Easy way to make money fast.Conan the SSJ wrote:Well, I finally finished the extra training battles in the Saiyan saga I didn't get to before, now 100% finished with Dragon Mission.
