Thanks for the heads-up, but I'd merely forgotten. I did know it. ^_^;
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Seriously, I don't understand FUNi. What's next, HFIL being said in the second season of GT?

With Cha-La, not sure how that would sound in English, and you'd have to watch out for pre-hype. Know a lot of Ouran fans were pissed that Funimaion dubbed Sakura Kiss. Me, I had no problem, but lots of guys called that the fact they dubbed that song, the most unholy of unholy offenses.

So, am I the only one that thinks the new opening is one step too small in the right direction? I mean...

...It's really cool. I get that. But as long as the rest of the track that goes WITH the dubbed Dan Dan and dubbed ending songs is still...well, the Funi dub as it was before, then why is this particularly great?

I mean, I just want to watch the Japanese subtitled track, so why do I care what they do to the dub tracks?

I suppose it would matter for dub fans..but still. Why would original version fans see this set as being superior, regardless of price, to the GT singles box sets?

Bite your tongue. :)

I think "Cha-La Head-Cha-La" is too much of an iconic anime song to be translated into English. I can kind of understand why they didn't bother dubbing it into English, because I'm sure there'd have been hell to pay if they went ahead with it and couldn't live up to Hironobu Kageyama's having set the bar extremely high.

Oddly enough, I don't mind the FUNi English version of "Makafushigi Adventure!" in English, but it would have been nice to hear a full version of it from them...

I am a fan of both versions of the show, the original more though. I think that if you like the original version better you should buy the old singles or the Japanese releases if you don't need/want subtitles. However, if you want the dub then this is a better purchase. It shows that FUNi actually cares a little on making the dub more original in a way.

GT's dub is pretty well-done, at least for a FUNi DragonBall product. The major flaw it had before was the horrific "music," and that mistake's been completely and decidedly taken care of. We're left with a decent, if not good, product as far as the dub is concerned.

As for other advantages, there's the nice video, and the episodes are back in the right order now.

It sounds like this is a good release and I'll most likely get it, but it seems like every time Funimation does something cool they have to go and do something that counters it and makes you say "now why the hell would they do that?" The no episode previews is just stupid, I mean, if it was on the last release why take it out now? They could have just left them in and had a feature to play the episodes with or without them. Still, I'm thankful for the dubbed opening and endings, that was a nice touch.
Trans rights, now!

I haven't seen the GT dub in a long time. But considering that the rest of Dragon Ball, or at the very least all of Z(other than Buu apparently according to some people) is dubbed terribly...

Why watch the original for 444 episodes, 17 movies, and 2 TV specials just to watch the dub for the last 64 episodes?

And I don't see the "episodes in the right order" as a particularly jarring thing. They're in the right order when you put them on your shelf. I don't see how it affects the release if the episodes are all out in singles.

It's ironic that you state it's silly to fight with other fans of other dubs, when you yourself are disparaging any other dub that isn't the Japanese dub. As Miyazaki himself has said, ALL animation is dubbed.
And the guy, Ocean Dub Z... He is such a zealot, but I have to thank him for uploading the Ocean dub pieces. I'm a dub collector and there's no way to get the Ocean episodes in Japan because they've been never released on any media yet..
Sorry, it's kinda out of topic
If there's no demand for an uncut Ocean Group dub, it won't be produced. One person wanting it does not justify a company's demand to include it on the releases.

Are you kidding me? Now, I'm not in love with the name "Mr. Satan", but that is just a dumb move. Did they say Hercule in the Singles? I know they didn't with Z.

Oh, FUNi...its like you given me a huge pot of delicious beef stew, but toss in a few mouse pellets to keep me on my toes. :?

I don't have the GT season set, but I have like 10 of the singles, they NEVER said Hercule in them. Mr. Satan, both Dub and Japanese.

Although there's some problems, the pros outweigh the cons. Finally, the dub with the Original BGM and dubbed theme songs.

People here seem to forget that the Japanese have to approve what gets released here before it goes on the market. I would think Toei has an interest in protecting its product... FUNi's releases of anything Dragon Ball releated is R1/R2/R4; since Japan is R2, Toei wanted to minimize any reverse importing that could happen, which is probably why Toei didn't give FUNimation Dragon Box footage, or even the next episode preview footage to the DVDs as well.

I understand that some of you out there are purists, almost to an unattainable degree, but for most of us, we can live without next episode previews, since most likely we're going to be watching these episodes one-right-after-the-other. I can tolerate the English dubbing of the OPs and EDs of GT, because I can always flip to the Japanese version with my remote and then switch back when it's done. Most people who have bought the Orange Bricks and will be buying the Neon Green Bricks won't be as precisely wanting of everything as most people that visit this website/forum.

Well the dub character names aren't all that accurate to begin with. Being that most of the dub fanbase would probably be offended by the name Mr. Satan, it's actually a change that makes sense. It should have been like that for the DBZ sets too.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

No no no.

See, it's fine with Z. I mean, it's NOT fine, but it's understandable because Funimation doesn't have the next episode previews for Z.

But they DO have the footage of the next episode previews for GT. This isn't a matter of "can't", which is an understandable issue and not particularly a negative. It's an issue of "didn't, for no good reason, even though they HAVE them and used them in the singles".

The song's been translated into various languages, why would English be taboo? Kageyama made an Engrish version. A properly translated English one wouldn't be bad.

Anyway, the GT Season 2 trailer should be on the GT Season 1 DVD somewhere, think anyone could post it up?
