They're gonna start thinking the series is throwing out subliminal messages. I can see people throwing a fit over that.

Besides, don't the Z sets use "Mr. Satan" frequently? I know they don't call him that all the time, but you'd think if the most popular and most-likely-to-be-seen-by-soccer-moms show gets to keep the original name, why not the lesser known show? It makes no sense.
What's the big deal guys, we all know he is actually called Hercule Satan since in the Season 6 set his 1st name Hercule was mentioned numerous times in the Cell games and there after they used his last name instead.

So Funimations way of using his original name isn't wrong it's just the first ignishials of his name...

As dub Hercule says "Hercule or Mr Satan whatever they call me I'm huge"

The problem is that in the original Japanese context he does not have this first name "H.ercule"

So is it the "as broadcasted" version that uses Hercule? Or is it the re-dub with JPN BGM?

I was just reading the FUNimation Forums and, if I'm understanding what they're saying correctly, apparently later episodes on the boxset still use Mr. Satan.

I was browsing on there earlier, and some members cited the name change as a good thing, because hearing a crowd chant "Satan!, Satan!, Satan!" made them nervous.

If that's true, then it's a big relief.

God these are the same people who will cringe when hearing a swear word or from seeing animated blood right?

Got to love the human race.

So they're a little more religious, big deal!

But YAY, mr satan!
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
A little more religious? I have an extremely religious friend who could care less if an animated crowed chants for some looser with a fro who happens to have the name "Mr.Satan."

It's not a little more religious it's very fucking over sensitive.

I've always said they should have just pronounced his name as Mr. "Sat-un" in the dub, that way the real name could go on air and people could stop bitching. Sure the pronunciation would be messed up but at least I never would have to hear the name "Hercule".

Gotta love FUNimation and their inconsistencies. Not. Well, maybe FUNimation realized it's pointless to have his name Hercule when all the signs say SATAN, SATAN CITY, etc.

But if their parents walked in and they were watching someone chanting "SATAN!", or someone covered in blood, they might get in trouble!!
;)
Some people aren't fortunate enough to be old enough to live on their own or be 'allowed' to watch those kinds of shows.

Agreed. I'm sick of whiney babies who can't hear standing words and therefore it has to be ruined for everyone else. But I'm relieved to hear that they still use Mr. Satan in later Episodes. As long as it's still in there I'm fine.

Then they can't watch it. Simple as that. If their parents are annoying pricks then those children have to suffer. Not everyone else.

What bothers me are the parents who buy the DVDs for their children and then complain about it. I mean TV-PG means "Parental Guidance". It's not like it's saying "Pretty Good". It's a rating to help the parents know what is in a program, so they shouldn't complain if it's their fault they bought it in the first place.

Again it's all over sensitivity, these people aren't chanting to the dark lord they are chanting to some poser with an afro. If their parents just hear the word "satan" and go storming off in a fit of rage and shock without any sort of investigation on the matter I would just blatantly call that stupid.

As for the blood once again it's animated...nobody is being hurt. Why in the hell would you try to shield your kid from something he has coursing through his body? (Not to mention very rarely is DBZ overly gory...it has it's moments but they are far and few between.)

And as the other two people mentioned above me just because some over sensitive kid has a soccer mom doesn't mean the rest of the population who enjoys DBZ has to suffer.

It would see so, with the exception of Mr. Satan's dub name.

The name "Satan" is a pretty big deal in two religions. Also so is 666(even though 616 is the original number used for the mark of the beast).
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

If parents are complaining about the content maybe FUNi should release edited versions of the series again. Therefore, everyone who wants the show the way it should be can get it that way and not worry about the children who can get the edited versions.

Being a christian, I'm not excited to having a character named "Mr. Satan" and having the entire planet yell out his name in praise, but I'm not going to go all extremist and send in letters like an old soccer mom.

It's just a cartoon, nothing more, nothing less. Besides, I like to view it as a little representation the real Satan: A person who people may praise(Not literally, but by their actions) but in reality is just a weak braggart. All in all, I'd rather have it be closer to the original and use the real name.

I'm not trying to get all religious and start some debate, I'm just saying my views on it.

I can accept that but he ISN'T Satan.

That's like saying "Oh well you ARE my best friend but man some guy was being a real dick to me yesterday and he shared your name so I have to hate you too!"
