When watching it on a computer, or a DVD player in progressive scan mode. I have to take the DVD player off of P-scan, and I have to deinterlace it in VLC.
Try with P-scan on, then see...
Progressive scan isn't supposed to have interlacing though. On Progressive scan it shows the interlaced lines. I don't know if my player sucks or what, but VLC does the same.
I also tried watching some old FUNi DVD's and also Street Fighter II V, and they all had interlacing when in Progressive scan mode.

This is gonna be my first time watching the series more consistently. I've only seen bit and parts of the series through fansubs way before it came on TV. As far as the eyecatchers go, I actually have them on my DVD as well.

Nope, actually that was the first thing I tried on my Progressive DVD player. No lines. I was surprised after I tried Street Fighter and saw them.

Seems that way. The only signs of the rap are the remnants in the form of the title cards which have always in the American soundtrack played an excerpt from the GT rap.

The title of the episode titles shown at the beginning of each episode, right after the recap of the previous episode. But visually, nothing specific to the rap is in here.

I don't think ANYONE actually liked it to begin with. Them doing away with it entirely is the best thing to happen for this set, especially when it got replaced with the new dubbed songs.

Is it actually possible to get a progressive image from a Digi-beta source?.

The more I see these images the less impressed I am with the video, this kind of "remastering" is easily accomplished by adjusting some settings on your TV or DVD player, I think it would have been a better idea to keep all of the detail (and dreaded grain) intact, because some of these screens look pretty bad most notably any character's face that isn't in an extreme close up becomes rather fuzzy and indistinct.

I'm almost certain digibeta can do both interlaced and progressive.

But considering the age of FUNimation's Digibetas, and the fact they got them from Toei, they're probably interlaced.

Well if the progressive encode is out the window, there really isn't a reason for me to re-buy GT just for the English opening and closings and blurry video.

Well, I can't get too angry. Sunrise provided Bandai with composite masters that were interlaced for Cowboy Bebop, and Gainax provided ADV with interlaced masters for Evangelion Platinum. So, even newer releases have that problem sadly.

So basically, aside from losing in terms of title cards, credits, and next episode previews...the season sets also are visually inferior?

Well damn. Those singles are still so much more than the sets.

I'm going to go with yes, we haven't seen any comparisons with the bitrates (though the GT singles were actually pretty decent), but on a purely superficial level, the single releases are much clearer despite the grain being present, the colours (on both releases) are also essentially identical to the Dragonbox.

For me the big draw card (apart from the English songs) was going to be a nice progressive encode, but that didn't happen, so if you're a fan of the Japanese version and want the Japanese title cards and next episode previews, the single releases really are the way to go.

I didn't like it in the context of Dragonball GT. I didn't like the lyrics either, but I did like the instrumental.

Dub with Japanese score is enough reason for me. The best thing about GT is its music, I might be bias because I grew up watching GT on the international channel.

Am I the only one who thinks it's silly that the menu in the DBZ-sets was 4:3 whereas the video was 16:9, whereas this DVD seems to be the exact opposite, with a widescreen menu and 4:3-video?

Yes I noticed, but I don't think it's silly. It doesn't matter... Why do people keep watching these little things that almost have no meaning at all. At least that's my opinion.
