The eclipse? Huh?

I didn't see enough DB in it to warrant a watch.

Wow thank you so much for that amazing link! So insightful and full of stuff I've never heard before! Wow!

Just a bunch of bitches whining.
Wow you are a really annoying person. You're like a Transformer fan, always whining about other fans "whining". They're not hurting you by doing so, stop trying to find a cheap way of making yourself feel mature.

What if someone was being OH WOW BEST MOVIE EVER WOW? You wouldn't bat an eyelid. "Negative" opinions are just the same as "positive" opinions - they have nothing to do with how you regard people or ideals, it's just personal taste.

I'm sorry, but nobody intelligent writes off "Negative" opinions like you do.

For me, blame "The Dark Knight."

A story that, for all intents and purposes, deviated massively from the original source material. Sure, much like DragonBall Evolution, there were things you could discern as being taken from and inspired by the original, but it was an authentically new work. You couldn't really say "Well, I've read the comics so ____ is going to happen any second now."

And as it stands, it's the 2nd grossing movie of all time in the United States. Critically and commercial acclaimed. Taking a story and putting your own spin on it isn't always disastrous. It's how you apply that spin. In their case, it was original while not making fans feel alienated.

Now, while The Dark Knight made me run out yesterday and pick up the Blu-ray, I view the trailers and pictures for DragonBall Evolution and kind of...well, yawn. Much like DC's announcement that they're going with a "Darker Superman" is met with a lot of people raising an eyebrow, so does Fox's treatment of Goku for me. Goku being all disinterested and monotonal is about as faithful to the original as it would be having The Joker rescue a kitten from a tree in The Dark Knight. His cheerfulness in most situations is one of his defining attributes.

Then you have Roshi, who is surprisingly wise and...well, playing the straight man. Unless they are hiding a great deal of his character, it seems way off.

Bulma is...well, generic action woman. Don't get that at all.

I could go on, but the only character I see really hitting the mark from what we can tell is James Marsters. I love the guy, and I'm glad to see his minuscule time in the trailer being my favorite. If nothing else works in this film, I hope his Piccolo blows me away.

And is it just me, or is the whole tone of this film seemingly derived from The WB's lineup in the early 2000's? Buffy, Angel, Smallville...I see them all reflected. Roshi is an Asian Rupert Giles, Goku is a mix of all the protagonists, Piccolo looks and sounds like The Master a bit, the prophecy bullshit (Goku is Buffy?)...

I dunno. I reserve judgment. Aside from James' performance though (and the fact that Emmy and Jamie are cute chicks), I don't see much positive stuff drawing me in. This looks like a "wait for the DVD/Blu-ray" for me.

Basically. Ever since TechTV left, that channel has basically gone down the crapper.

Anyway, I don't suppose anyone would want to rip the stream and post it for download, would they?

Okay, thanks. ;p

So, is this trailer still premiering with "The Day the Earth Stood Still"?

It is in Japan. Elsewhere, I'm not sure.

Now that it seems the real promotion is finally underway, I'm wondering when we'll see an official site for the movie.

I'm still watching it, although I hate the new "evolution" title.

It's actually one of my life's goals to be the film editor for any of the possible sequels. :P

The new title is unnecessary, but so is "X-Men Origins:" in the "Wolverine" movie.
If challenge had a taste, you'd be quite delicious.

I'm proving your point but, generalizations are fun huh?

Title of the movie is still weird. Evolution is an odd name for the first movie in the franchise.

Is it me, or does it look like Evolution was tacked onto this trailer after it was already finished?

Agreed, it doesn't seem like it was necessary. But so long as it's relevant to the plot, I can dig it.

You could have the coolest special effects or dead-on Piccolo in the world, but the writers molesting Goku's personality beyond recognition have assured that they won't get a damn dime from me.
On hiatus.

The title was just "Dragonball" until recently.

I just downloaded the HD WMV trailer, I'm really hating the look of Ki attacks, the smoky wispy magic crap has been done a million times, the effect would look more at home in a Harry Potter movie, but I guess asking for a Kamehameha that looks like a Kamehameha, is asking too much.

Not quite, as it addresses that this is an X-Men 'spin-off', 'prequel' er..thing. A title for the ignorant if you will. Furthermore, if I'm not mistaken, FOX studios are planning to release a chain of X-Men Origins films, continuing the trend with Magneto and Young X-Men. So, in comparison with slapping Evolution with Dragonball, it's hardly random or unnecessary.

Well, my opinion on the movie has increased after watching the trailer...it has officially gone from "lost cause" to "decent". Best we can hope for really.

Kaiser and I both agree that Grandpa Gohan and Roshis' actors should have been switched. What do you guys reckon?

As far as how they look in the movie it would make sense.
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

I kinda agree. Gohan's actor does have the look of Roshi and vice-versa. But either way would be fine for me, really. :P
