What's your BIGGEST mess-up regarding Dragonball?
Back when Dragon Ball Z had a magazine, and had GT toys in a catalog, I thought "Son Gokou" was Gohan's son. And I thought it was pronounced "GO COW!"
I can't remember if it was Beckett DBZ or Dragon Ball Z: The Magazine, as they were two different zines.
I miss those things. They had quizzes on random pieces of DB information, some for beginners(Who is Vegeta?), intermediates(How old is Goku when Z starts?), and advanced(What does the symbol on Oolong's house mean before he begins traveling with Goku and Bulma?)
I don't remember what it was though. Maybe "dragon."

Wow, I thought! That makes sense, as far as I know!
The Great Saiyaman, he continued, was the leader of the Saiyans and their great super hero who wanted to conquer the Earth, and had a conflict of interest with Vegeta over who'd rule the Saiyans.
Pikablu, anyone!?
Anyway I guess my biggest mistake was buying all the Ultimate Uncuts only to have them canceled on me. So much money wasted.

Oh God...
My biggest mistake was...
Probably just calling Tullece Goku's long lost brother, even though before that I knew he was his doppelgänger.
Well, that and I always believed rumours and didn't believe actual facts. I was up to the 'Namek saga' here, when everyone was waiting for more episodes.
Like "Linkin Park/Kid Rock/Papa Roach/etc. did the opening song!" and "There's only one Dragon Ball Z movie, it has Goku's other brother in!" and "There's a prequel simply titled Dragon Ball coming out!"
When I was told "That's Vegetto, he's Goku and Vegeta fused" or "Trunks is Bulma's and Vegeta's son." I was all "Pfft, What's with you guys disrespecting Vegeta?! He would never do anything like that! And Bulma is with Yamcha!" And then there was a picture of all of the Saiyan Characters with sticking up blond hair, my responce was something along the lines of "LOL Dragon Ball Z and Sonic the Hedgehog!"
I was 12, I didn't know any better!
And my explanation for people spelling Saiyan as Saiya-jin was this...
"Saiya-jin is just Japanese spelling, it's pronounced Seiyan still, the Ji is silent Trust me, I speak Japanese!"
And "The weird Z looking symbol on their Fighting Costumes (亀) means Dragon, Trust me, I speak Japanese!!"
I WAS 12!
I actually got a few chances at watching a few scenes in Japanese, and I kept making fun of the voices...
When I found out about Gogeta and the Fusion Saga, I put two and two together and thought it was gonna be awesome. And when I found out about GT, oooooh, I was all "This is gonna be awesome!" and then AF and I was still all "THIS IS GONNA BE AWESOME!!"...
I was 12...
In retrospect, 12 year olds must never be allowed Internet access!!!
Haha, at least you had a better excuse than I did.The Time Traveller wrote: And my explanation for people spelling Saiyan as Saiya-jin was this...

I played a lot of Final Fantasy VIII back when I first discovered Dragonball Z and I thought some of the terms in the game were 'common Japanese words'. So, before I knew what SSJ stood for, I just assumed it meant 'Super Saiyan Junction'.
Junctioning was a certain thing you would have to do in Final Fantasy VIII in order to make your characters stronger.
ARGHHHH I WISH I COULD GO BACK IN TIME AND PUNCH MYSELF IN THE HEAD. ;_;

Around the time when I first got into DBZ I thought Future Trunks was Bulma's husband.
How this happen was I moved to Belgium and didn't understand French; they were showing the episode where Trunks recently came out of the time chamber and Bulma went to speak to him holding baby Trunks.
Another one is where I thought Bulma and Vegeta had a third child. I read that online somewhere a long time go. It was probably from some fan fic or something.

My biggest mess-up concerning DragonBall was waiting so long to get into it. I didn't become a fan until I was like 18.
Fortunately, that at least seems to have allowed me to avoid the "12-year-old stupidity" that seems to be so prevalent.

Thinking that the english Cha La Head Cha-La lyrics were word-for-word accurate to the original Japanese lyrics. =p
I remember seeing a old clip on some website back in like 97-98 of Vegeta turning SSJ in front of the androids. It was so low quality that I thought it was happening at the Tenkaichi tournament because the video was so pixelated I thought it was the tile floor from the tournaments.
I also at one point thought Recoome and android 16 were the same person. I think it was when I had only seen up until the Ginyu fight, but was playing Butoden 1 on SNES.
Also, I think it was thrown away, cause I can't find any of my old old drawings, but I remember drawing a picture of SSJ3 Goku and saying it was Gohan, it even has Gohan written next to it.
Another drawing related screw up was when I drew a pciture of SSJ2 vegeta with the potara earring in and wrote Vegetto next to it. This is because I hadn't seen any of the buu saga, so I assumed that was Vegetto, and not Vegeta because where was his Saiyan Armor?
I don't know if this counts, but before a friend lent me fan subs, I never noticed the Editing in the dub until he told me. I really never noticed the floating color block outs and stuff like that until then.
Also I use to make fun of Vegeta's forehead being HUGE, I would draw pictures of him with an even bigger forehead and laugh about it, but now he is my favorite character.

I kept calling "Ki", "Kai" for the longest time.
Be grateful the filler in Dragon Ball doesn't suck like the 3rd arc of Rurouni Kenshin.

I watched the Spanish dub of Dragonball Z (the first thing I ever had seen of Dragonball), and the episode was in Cell Saga.
Android 17 was fighting Cell, and got absorbed. I thought that it was weird.
Then suddenly it skips to another scene, and Vegeta and Trunks leave the ROSAT.
I got confused.
Android 17 was back! But he had torn clothes (of course, because of that he got digested in Cell) and...what? Purple hair?! I thought that Trunks and Android 17 were the same person.
Did he evolve in there? Was the exit of the ROSAT linked to the stomach of Cell?
Did he save another guy (Vegeta) when he was in there?
Of course I didn't understand jack of what they were saying (I do now, mind you), and thought up different explanations to the absurd scenes.
I win!

No more time for Daizex. Goodbye folks!
When I watched a Fansub and went, OMFG DBZ ISN'T FOR KIDS!!!
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

My biggest mistake was underestimating the potential of the series.
When I first heard about it, Toonami had just finished showing "season 2" (edited) for the first time, so I checked out DBZ from the beginning. There were five or six of my friends watching it, but we didn't talk about it much because we didn't want to be associated with the "anime kids" in highschool (all 5 of them back in those days).
I honestly didn't think the series would ever catch on, or that we'd ever have more than those first 53 episodes. I used to download 50 MB Realmedia fansubs on a 56k connection. I'd set one up to download, and if I was lucky it would complete overnight while I slept before I either randomly lost connection or my mom needed to use the phone. If it didn't complete, I'd have to start all over again (this was before the p2p boom). I bought a CD burner (first of my friends to have one!) with my first paycheck from my first job to back up my --awesome-- collection of near-unwatchable fansubs.
I assumed this would be the best quality I would ever get.
When I was an exchange student in Germany in 2001 they were playing Dragonball there, and I recorded almost the entire series. I was in talks with one of the big fansubbers of the day to send in my tapes and use them as sources for fansubs. I assumed we'd never get original Dragonball in the states. About a week later, they announced that Dragonball was being dubbed.
Looking at the popularity today, I laugh at how I used to think of Dragonball as some obscure foreign cartoon that only me and my best friends liked. I can pick up the show for a dollar an episode in crystal-clear quality (this statement is not an invitation to bitch about the season sets) with three audio options, and a new, high-profile video game gets released at least once a year. Now I assume that the series is over, but since I feel that way, they'll probably do a new anime just to spite me. Here's hoping!

A friend of mine told me about sequel series after GT about Goku, and Vegeta Jr.'s escapades called "DRAGONBALL EB", and yes, "DRAGONBALL AF". What the heck would EB stand for? I believed him, and believed there was these bunch of series after GT, and swore to everyone who tried to doubt me, that these series existed. I said I even had proof, because I had gotten some weird DragonBall comic book from Chinatown (it was some weird knockoff thing).

A friend told me once (we're in around 2002 here, which I think was the height of the Buu saga in the UK, so I'd've been eight or nine, I think?) that Majin Buu tricked Gotenks into fusing with him. I think he might've meant the absorption, but still, I had a picture in my head of Buu persuading Gotenks to fuse, then them doing the Fusion Dance.
True, it's not much (he probably just got the finer detail wrong), but it's somethin'.

My biggest mess up was reading all those articles in Australian magazines, which basically told you what happened in the series.
Plus, listening to my friends when they told me that Gohan was the one that beat Cell.
I lost so many surprises from the series...
But at least I still had Dragon Ball.

I originally pronounced “Majin” dead-wrong. This was before the Boo Saga had been introduced to the States; I saw it online and had been taking Spanish in Jr. High at the time so I interpreted the “j” as an “h” sound and ended up with “Mahin.” As a result, my brother made a fan comic in which Boo shoes up to Kame House and introduces himself, to which Krillin responds “Mayhem what?”
Funny stuff.
