Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

So...er...Thoughts on Toriyama's comments on the Live Action Movie...
Daizex Main Page wrote:Toriyama left a message to the cast and crew of the movie: He felt surprised when he saw everything but after meeting the cast and crew, he felt they were splendid. He hopes that it will become a new Dragon Ball to be enjoyed and confirms that he is very much looking forward to it."
The typical humble Japanese Man answer. I can't really say I was expecting different. But I guess I was dreaming he's rip into the thing.
Damn, so he met the crew? Makes me wish I was playing Goku (Or anothwer young male main) just to takle the man aside and say..."Hey, come on man. I know it's terrible"
To be honest, from his quote it almost sounds like he was as disgusted as most of us yet when he met the cast and crew pretended to like it out of respect.

Okay..... well sorry he didn't hate it.
To be honest, I don't see the point of trying to twist what he said into what you hoped he would think.

How did you get
that from that tiny little quote? Seriously!?

I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

I second what everyone else has to say here.
It seemed sort of like "oh hey...neato" apathy at worst.
Aro started to laugh. “Ha, ha, ha,” he chuckled.- Actual quote from Twilight

Toriyama sleeps on a pile of money, so I can understand him being a little apathetic towards anything that isn't a pile of money.

I think Toriyama is being honest....while laughing all the way to his nearest bank. Doesn't matter if this film bombs or not, he is still getting a nice bit of cash.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

How could you
possibly come to that conclusion from a comment that is, at the very least, positive?

Precisely.
Not being so quick to dismiss it as "actually hates it and is typically lying to be polite," it seems to me from Mr. Toriyama's quote that he's just pleasantly surprised. I mean, shoot, if your long, popular comic got turned into a live-action movie, wouldn't you be at least a little pleased?
He seems the type to me to remain detached and enjoy it, rather than fussing or being offended. He's not Alan Moore.

Exactly, Toriyama doesn't give a shit, because his pile of money will most likely get bigger from this movie.

I know I'd be happy if I created something that was s popular that other cultures are making movies about it.

I know. It's wierd. I think he wouldn't be as enthusiastic sounding. How do you get "disgusted" outta that?

This.
I can't say much else, because I'd just be repeating things that have been said about the movie a million times already.

I don't see how, most of the discussion revolving around Toriyama here consists of how forgetful and rich he is.

The bold words are where I'm getting my theory from. Seems like a polite way of saying he wasn't too fond of it. Though I do agree, I doubt the man really cares. Hell it would seem like he didn't watch Toei's movies (Most of them anyway).
Okay..... well sorry he didn't hate it.
Toriyama is a Movie Buff and a fan of Hollywood. So odds are he enjoyed seeing his franchise get to this point.
