If they can replace Mel Blanc, they can replace anyone. Not that the bar set by the original is ever necessarily met, but if there is a demand they will find a way to fulfill it. But, let’s not get ahead of ourselves here. Not that her contributions should be taken for granted, but people live to be quite old these days. She’s still active and working, which has got to be a hell of a lot more healthy than the inactive retirements a lot of senior citizens often become committed to.

When you think of all the series that have been redone, it's pretty surprising it hasn't been done already. I mean, they're even redoing Eva. To be honest, I'd really like to see them do it.

Ah, hadn’t heard about that. Sounds interesting.Kingdom Heartless wrote:Yeah..... sorry.
Makes me wonder how these retellings are generally perceived… better, worse than the originals? Just going on that Goku/Freeza reanimation in the other thread, I can see that the action looks like it’d take a spike (at least in the Z portion), to accommodate the fans’ increasing expectations as the stakes have gotten higher and higher over the years. Don’t know if that’s necessarily a good thing… but then, we don’t want a complete rehash, so maybe it doesn’t hurt. I don’t know. What do we as fans really want to see in an updated DB?
I kind of understand Toriyama... If I were him, I would feel honored that my story would actually also become a Hollywood movie. And the big pile of money also helps.
But yes, maybe Toriyama did already see it and liked it... and you know what? I kind of hope so, because that'll mean there is a chance I'll enjoy it also.
...Which I still very much doubt. XD

That's what I've been thinking. Maybe like fix some plot holes, cut the series down. The biggest complaint I've heard about the series that it dragged on too long. Some of the episodes where all they were doing was powering up could be shortenedKingdom Heartless wrote:When you think of all the series that have been redone, it's pretty surprising it hasn't been done already. I would actually like a OVA about the origins or whereabouts of some characters. I'm a fan of character development and I've always wanted to know the stories of Krillin before he met Goku and Roshi, Tien and Choazu, Trunks after he went back to his time, etc.

That Freeza/Goku fight on that video looked like it was really well done. I think if the movie is successful, our chances at getting a new series would increase dramatically. Looking at the animation in the special really made me aware of how fantastic the series could look if it was done today.
I think the New Fist of the North Star was recieved alright and the Rebuild of Evangelion (part one, anyway) recieved a standing ovation when shown in Japan.

One thing to keep in mind is that Toriyama isn't really a DB fanboy. He told the story and let it go, checking in every now and then for consultation or an early viewing. He's less George Lucas and more current Stan Lee.
And they should totally cast Toriyama as a random mail delivery man, bystander, janitor, something...

To show my appreciation, I'll only beat them half to death.
Not to mention The Rebuild of Eva 1.0 sold almost 300k DVDs in Japan this year.Kingdom Heartless wrote:That Freeza/Goku fight on that video looked like it was really well done. The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.
Which is probably precisely why he likes what he sees in the movie. He's leagues less attached to it than we fans are... which is kind of funny.Onikage725 wrote:One thing to keep in mind is that Toriyama isn't really a DB fanboy.

Yeah, What animation?
And I for one would like to see the dragonball universe be expanded. any other universes such as paikon (too lazy to check spelling). What would be the best thing for me to see is a series or mini-series on the saiyans theres just so much you could do with it. If toriyam decided to have a go at the db universe again. Thats what I'd like to see. Unless he were to scrap DBGT from the timeline and continue from the end of dbz. but yeah. hah

I'd hate to see any new "re-done" series for Dragon Ball. There's a lack of charm in new animation that I just don't like. Besides, I have enough trouble keeping track of two or three continuities. =p
The one used for that "Can you see the differences?" thing. I think it was used for a game show, or something?Onikage725 wrote:On a side note... what Goku/Freeza reanimation?
I'd think most of us would agree that Toriyama's not actually saying his thoughts on the movie it's self either way. So I see no problem with interpreting what he said as potentially dissatisfaction.Son Sebbe wrote:English is just such a compact languese!Toriyama = It's

It would be nice if the whole series were redone in that form of animation with little differences and approaches towards certain events. Nevertheless, please negate the Super Saiyan Kakarrot and Freeza beam struggle that they clearly stole from the Kakarrot versus Vegeta fight in the Saiyan Saga. Some moments are just classic and needs to be left as is.Acid_Reign wrote:Ah, hadn’t heard about that. Sounds interesting.Kingdom Heartless wrote:Yeah..... sorry.

The Saiyans are very much like the Klingons and Jem'Hadar.

Actually I'm thinking that the whole first page was people saying "No, not really" to that.Gozar wrote:I'd think most of us would agree that Toriyama's not actually saying his thoughts on the movie it's self either way. I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

To be honest, I don't think he cares much, either.
Heck, if I had a famous comic/cartoon series(as I will someday
), I would be downright ecstatic if it was being made into a live action movie by anyone, sucky or not. Because, basically, if it's already gotten far enough to have a Live-Action movie, then that means I've already got a nice little wad of cash in the bank as it is.
Besides, it's not like I wouldn't know that most movies like that aren't great, anyway.
But then again, I'd want to be more involved than Toriyama was in this movie...so it'd probably be faithful to whatever my stuff would be.

He says he's surprised. This could be surprised in a good way or in a bad way.
Then there's a "but" with something following. Saying "but" would imply that his first thought has been changed.
What he says following is positive things. Which would imply his first thought was negative.
I see no failing logic with my assumption. Just because people assume a comment is pure fanboy negativity doesn't mean it is. If someone can explain how that logic is without a doubt false I'd be glad to listen.
