The Terror of Piccolo Daimao (My Piccolo Daimao arc trailer)

A lot of people really didn't like how Dragonball Evolution's trailer is presenting the Dragon Ball series (myself included). It got me thinking about what exactly were the main differences between the movie and the source material. This included characters, their personalities, the tone of the arc, the background stories and so forth.

I noticed DBE seems to be putting a whole lot more focus on Goku while having everyone else be a more background character (with Roshi being a secondary character). Not only this, but the movie trailer seemed more like it was trying to be a hardcore, kung-fu action flick. You also don't really get a grasp of the characters aside from Piccolo's motivation for carrying out vengence.

So I took all of this and applied it to a trailer involving anime footage. With everything about DBE in mind, I mirrored some scenes with the anime footage, while also showing how different things are. For example, the whole arc revolved around the heroes going down in numbers and how hopeless things were getting. Not only that, but everyone tried to do something without knowing Goku was still alive and would be the one to save the day.

I also felt that the characters that were dropped off in the movie actually did have merit and deserved recognition (such as Yajirobe and Tenshinhan and even Daimao's spawns). To keep it in the spirit of being a trailer, I refrained from revealing who dies and who beats who. That's why Kuririn is no where to be seen (since he's dead through out the entire arc save for Tambourine killing him).

All in all, I'm rather pleased with the final result and felt I should share with you guys. Took me the entire night ripping all of that footage back and forth from five different DVDs (I cheated, using Baba's end footage from her set :P). Also, try not to let this explode into movie debate. :p

Interesting video. I can't say I loved it, but it was cool.

I would actually be interested in seeing if someone could take footage from the show, but use the audio from the trailer and line it up.

Kinda difficult to do. Especially since there are certain elements in the movie that just don't exist in the anime (such as the Goku/Gohan training or ChiChi vs Mai).

Well, I suppose one could use footage from the Gohan/Goku fight from Baba's place for that. As for the Chi Chi/Mai stuff, hmm, I guess they could use footage of Chi Chi Fighting in the 23rd Budokai inter-spliced with Random Mai stuff.

Cool trailer bro, just a random question but is there a reason you chose the dub track? I always thought you didn't care for it too much.

Yeah, I don't normally listen to the dub track. I mainly went with it since it was easier to just listen and chop out unnecessary things, as opposed to playing the scene on DVD with subs on, editing and what not. Plus I didn't wanna bother with adding subs. That and...well, I felt it was better to compare the English dub with the Hollywood movie.

So I guess no real reason other than technical issues. Dragon Ball I don't have many qualms with (although some bits of dialogue made me , such as Goku calling King Piccolo a "big meanie") like I do with Z.

Gotta say impressive, even though I don't mind them making a LA Dragon Ball, I'd rather see Toei make a special based off the Piccolo Daimao arc. Also in the style of the current special.

I cringe every time I hear the name "Power Pole". Or "Mercenary Tao". (Seriously, what's wrong with "Tao Pai Pai"?)

Try "General" Tao. At least a mercenary acts on their own for money.
