Why didn't FUNimation do this for the BT games?

Post by VenomSymbiote » Sat Dec 20, 2008 1:13 am

I was recently playing BT 3 on my Wii, when it occured to me that the Japanese release of the game had the music from the show for the game.

It dawned on me that Atari could have made a little bit more money if FUNimation had used Falcouner's music for the game. As we all know, the BT/Sparking games are the closest you will get to being in the show.
If the Japanese could get the game with music from the show, why couldn't we? The people who don't like the dub could get the Japanese version, like Mike, and the American/Dubbie fans could've gotten this. What gives?

Has the English version of any DBZ fighter ever gotten Faulconer's tracks? Don't they always come with some instrumentals made by Atari themselves?

I don't see how, since they use for the show, just like Japan does.

Toei probably owns carte blanche rights to the score, whereas FUNi might only have the right to use their score for televised and home releases. Afterall, I'm pretty sure Falconer composed the score as a "gun for hire." He must have maintained some say in how the music was used.

I'd say Taiketsu and the Legacy series had Faulconer music, but they were all created by Atari, so, it may well be a liscencing issue.

But I would have no way of playing a Japanese copy of Sparking! METEOR on Wii. Plus without the in game tutorial I would have had no idea what to do.

Wouldn't having Bruce's music be sort of weird? A lot of the time it seems like he composed his music around the according scene. (For instance his music would do a cartoony falling noise whenever Goku was sent slamming into the ground.)

Yeah. Although I'd rather the Japanese music. It would be good one day to have both scores on a future game title.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

If Faulconer's score was included, I would probably turn it off even quicker than I turned off the rejected Sonic the hedgehog music, which was within a couple of hours of playing.

Agreed with NeptuneKai. Without even going into my personal taste on the matter, the dub score iss very much paced directly to the action on-screen. A character rushes, the music picks up. Action stops, there's either a mellow period or a comical cartoony sound. Just listen to Perfect Cell's theme. Andd, honestly, outside of the "themes," is the random battle music any more memorable than the Atari score? I mean, maybe his Super Buu theme would be kickass for a fighter, but does anyone sit around humming whatever the dub played when Goku fought Jheese and Butta?
To show my appreciation, I'll only beat them half to death.

The Gameboy Advance Collectible Card Game even had a couple of Faulconer's songs directly ripped, albeit looped into infinity.

I always enjoyed the Falcouner Music in Legacy of Goku 2, it really made me feel like I was "in the show". Even though I don't love everything Falcouner composed, they did a good job with that game.

Since I'm not a fan of Falconer's music (or the dub music in general) I'm glad they didn't put any of it in. It sucks that they took out the Japanese music, but my stance on that was: "As long as they don't put in any music from the dub, I can live with it".

Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

So...just like an episode of dubbed DBZ?
