Why'd they leave him out anyway? And why'd they include Mai? She's a badguy, unless she turns good...?

SSj Kaboom wrote:Goku WOULD be utterly bored in school. If those portions of the movie do a good job of portraying him as out-of-place and unsuited to school life, then that's appropriate and I should enjoy them.

But he looks pretty "into it" during the fight scene, though. Didja seem him smiling in the trailer as he was flipping around and kicking them?
It's great that he's bored in school and all, but I don't get the point of using school to introduce Goku and Chi-Chi. Goku's normal introduction as some forest-dwelling martial artist (whether it was in Dragonball or Dragonball Z) was always good enough for me. As for Chi-Chi, I think her introduction would be a billion times more entertaining if she were decapitating dinosaurs and firing lasers out of her head!

I dunno, although martial arts DID seem their biggest priority, I could imagine Gohan deciding eventually that Goku should get some sort of schooling, for his own good. Even if it's something basic or "special" classes. Kind of a "What If: Goku never accidentally killed Gohan" kind of deal, or something. Everything else seems pretty faithfully in place; Goku and Gohan DO live out on their own in the countryside/wilderness, and it seems they spend most of their time training.

As for Chi-Chi, I couldn't really say.

Now someone needs to PhotoShop Roshi and Goku's live-action heads onto this:

I dunno, it's just not his thing. He'd much rather be out training or exploring.

Both Goku and Krillin didn't seem too enthusiastic about academic studies in Episode 18 of Dragonball. He was actually falling asleep, really. He also seemed extremely excited once study time was over.

I've gotta agree with you. He wouldn't even like High School life, he'd probably be a really nice Jock in the end though.

I can't decide whether I think Goku's lingerie is funnier than Vegeta's Bad Man "pink shirt, yellow pants, green shoes" outfit. XD

Leaning more towards Vegeta though, as he was visibly upset about his outfit.
On hiatus.

That's pretty much the way I've seen it. Wouldn't really be good at much anything but Kenpo Club. XD

I dunno, I can't see Goku being much into swordplay. He'd probably be like Jan from Gekiranger.v Try to use a sword, decides he doesn't like it, and just uses his fists.
Against samurai.
Succesfully.

Kenpo, not Kendo.

Ken can mean both "fist" and "sword."

EDIT: Oh, and the guy who plays the Red Gekiranger would make a nice live-action Goku.

I'd still much rather vouch for Jon Foo as Goku:

For anybody who isn't aware of how the guy who plays the Red Gekiranger appears:

Also, (despite the whole language barrier..) Yuseke Iseya for Vegeta anyone? :P

Jon Foo would make a great post-Freeza Goku, but I was imagining a 23rd Tenka'ichi Budokai Goku when I said the Red Gekiranger. Plus, I already know for a fact that the guy who plays the Red Gekiranger can play a happy-go-lucky martial artist from the wilderness who has occasional aura-blasting power-up scenes and small doses of very serious behavior when the going gets tough!.. mostly because that's exactly how he acted on Gekiranger.

I've only seen maybe about 25 minutes worth of footage from the show (the beginning, a bit of the middle, and the final scenes of the series), but those 25 minutes revolved around him and everything he did reminded me of how Goku would act if a manga-accurate live-action Dragonball were to ever be produced in modern times.

However, they'd have to make his hair a bit more wild than in that picture.

Anyway, did anyone see those new "school scene" pictures?

When I first saw this I thought; "What, you mean marriage doesn't mean food?!" Then I realized how this was the live action movie and OF COURSE he isn't thinking anything like that. Which is very sad.

I would love to see Jan(GekiRed) as Son Goku
Retsu(GekiBlue) would also make a awesome Vegeta

Just throwing this out there.

Wouldn't it have been flippin' awesome if the film had a little montage a-la Lord Of The Rings: Fellowship of the Ring telling concerning the events that had occured in the childhood years of Goku and/or the creation and existence of the Dragonballs? Or perhaps a stylish montage/telling of the past as used in films such as Hellboy 2, and Dragon Tiger Gate. It'd make for a smoother transition into the following events that would occur as the film plays out imo.

On another note, this film really is continually irking me the wrong way. The more I see, the less enthusiastic I am with it. The sets, the effects, the mood, the vibe, James Wong's directing, the insistance on the toying of source material and imagery..the list goes on. The film thus far really..really does appear to be nothing more than a random fantasy film that is bland as all hell; with a lead green-faced-vampiric villain that could or could not be Piccolo in the 89' live action Batman suit, and a lead protagonist of whom coincidently dons an outfit that bears resemblence to that of Goku from Dragonball.

In my perspective, the film has 'Fail' written all over it (for lack of a better statement..), as the team behind it, are trying so desperately to have the film be "IN" with the audience. Thus, resulting in an awkward, and unintentionally cheesy-as-fuck movie. I doubt it will even constitute as a film for a good laugh(har-har Batman & Robin), as the film isn't exactly targeted to be an extremely over-the-top kid-friendly flick.

I must note that I for one, am not looking for anything to complain about. Give me a break, it isn't hard to find something wrong with this production. *woeful sigh* I wish I could continue to be as optimistic as I was in the early stages of this film, but.. well..

Losing patience.

I thought maybe he was "drawing" on his hand or something.
